RevisedZiro will bind spirits in the interval. He contacts Dr. Claire in advance.
Day 0: Ziro contacts Talismonger to order replacement Binding Materials. Turns out he mis-gaged the costs. He thought they would be 1,500 * Force or 7,500. Turns out the cost is 500 * Force (see erata). 7,500 is enough to bind 3 Force 5 Spirits (Note: Ziro padded the cost by 1,000

to cover medical treatment + pain and suffering).
Ziro decides to purchase Force 6 Binding Materials instead - two sets at 3,000 nuyen each. He'll use his own materials for the ritual, and use the purchased materials to restock his inventory.
((Note: I made the same mistake during character generation. Ziro bought 5 sets of Force 5 Binding Materials for 5*5*1,500 = 37,500

. To correct that error, make it 13 sets of Force 6 materials, 13*6*500= 37,500))
While the Talismonger is checking availability, Ziro second guesses the purchase. Thirteen sets of Binding Materials is a substantial investment. He figures he could find other uses for the cred. He tells the Talismonger to hold off on the purchase.

Oracle will take a watch, as well, and even when resting will keep his eyes open. His perception dice pool is 13, and his astral perception dice pool is also 13. Assume he's buying successes (~3) where he can, both looking around the house, as well as keeping an eye out outside of the place.
I would also like him to use his psychometry on the house - particularly near the surveillance equipment, to see what sorts of impressions he can pick up about what other teams that had stayed here were feeling.

@Oracle (psychometry): Mostly the sense you get is boredom, punctuated by a few brief flashes of activity. This place has never been really magically active, so the impressions you get seem a little dull & flat. You do get a couple of strong visual images of thunderbirds coming across the mountain...some of them end quite violently. You *might* be able to use these impressions to pick out your target if you saw it again.

Could the LAV have carried out a monowheel as part of the gear?
Can I have picked up some tracker and capsule rounds?
Ok, so we spot a TBird, then what? Probably lots of TBirds zip through. Check it for wards? Find a ward, then what? Take down the TBird?
What would be useful to have in the capsule rounds that the rest of the team could use for tracking should we lose contact with the target?
BlackHat
Oct 23 2008, 02:25 PM
I think we don't know what we're going to do yet - We're *supposed* to figure out what it is carrying, and where it is carrying it to. That is pretty hard if it is flying, and we're not - but Oracle has an inkling as to how we're going to overcome that hurdle... but it was pretty vague, so he's not announcing his impression yet. He's keeping an eye to the sky, out the window, though.
DireRadiant
Oct 23 2008, 02:40 PM
Okay, reread the IC thread.
We need to acquire the Target
We need to follow the Target to it's destination
We need to identify the cargo
Target is in a TBird, how do we tell which one? Right now I think we only know it's a TBird and warded and protected.
Do we want to tag the target? I was thinking we need to get all of our tracking options set up.
Astral trailing, directly, or with an item on the TBird.
- Send a Spirit
- Send a Watcher
- Send a Mage
- Hit the TBird with a capsule round with something we can trace astrally. Anyone want to give up a few drops of blood?
Matrix
- Scan the TBird and get it's commcode/subscription
- Hack the TBird
- Tag the TBird with electronic tracking rounds
- Tag the Tbird with gel rounds with sticky clue and rfid tags (Traxcker rounds require doing soem damage, a gel sticky round wouldn't
Physical
- Follow it with our own TBird, anyone got one handy?
- Follow it on other vehicles
- Send drones after it, only a Nimrod, speed 800, might be able to chase a TBird, speed 1000, but a Dalmatian with enough altitude might be able to keep it in tracking range long enough.
- Got a spare satellite?
- Tag it with flourescent paint/scent/radioactive/trace chemicals we can follow.

Wow. All good ideas.
Oracle cannot astrally project, but he can astrally percieve. Once he sees the target (even if physically at first, then astrally), he can make predictions about it. One easy prediction might be "Is this the TBird we are looking for?" That might solve the problem of figuring out which TBird we care about. Following that thing after it zooms past us will be a whole different matter.
I might be able to ask something more vague (and each question gets harder) such as "Where is this TBird going to land next?" But, OOC, I have less confidence in that resulting in anything very useful. Yes/No questions are easiest.
Oracle also doesn't have any hacking gizmos, astral tagging gizmos, or gizmos of any sort that are going to help us, directly. So, the above is about the best I can offer. I'm sure someone else has at least one of those areas covered.

1) I thought it was a ground vehicle is why I bound an earth spirit. Fortunately, I also bound an air spirit (Raven favors air spirits).
2) My Visual Perception: 6d6.hits(5) → [3,2,2,6,6,4] = (2)
My Astral Perception: 7d6.hits(5) → [6,3,6,1,6,5,1] = (4)
3) I'll ask the air spirit to (astral) patrol the route until further notice, and notify me everytime it spots a moving warded area.
Spirit's Astral Perception: 12d6.hits(5) → [3,5,6,2,2,3,1,5,4,3,1,1] = (3)
4) I will notify the watch whenever the spirit detects a ward. I will astrally project at that time.
BlackHat
Oct 27 2008, 06:37 PM
I don't think we have a nimrod, or an air-vehicle that can fit everyone (correct me if I am wrong), so sending an air spirit (or even an earth spirit - I think it can still fly, right?) after the thing seems like our best bet.
Other questions
1) Does anyone have anything that we could actually use as a tracker round? (Trackers? Gel rounds? RFIDs? blood? etc)
2) Does anyone have a long-range gun (sniper rifle) that will be able to reliably tag a TBird.
Also, it seems like a good idea to have Oracle attempt the easy question of verifying that the first TBird we see is actually the one we're looking for - so we don't waste spirit services sending them after red-herrings.
Assuming we don't have the vehicle or tracker rounds mentioned - I think that leaves astral tracking as our best bet. We can then physically travel to wherever the spirit is led to.
If it is warded, there might be a enemy mage following astrally, though, so sending a spirit might tip them off that we are on our way. Worth mentioning - but I don't see any other way around it, since we're out of other options for following the thing to its destination.

You visions are muddled on this, but the various paths that have this t-bird on them seem to lead towards the darkness you're afraid of. You still can't figure out what it is, but this vehicle seems to be headed in that direction.
"Where will this vehicle land?"
This is much more difficult, you have to sort through so many images of crashes, mechanical failures, hostile fire and pilot errors to get to an actual landing: you see massive towers of steel and glass, rivers of concrete between them carrying a massive flood of people. A huge metroplex, definitely, but it doesn't look familiar.

Does anyone have an opinion on Grandpa taking a shot at the T-bird.

@Ziro: understood re. spirits. Quick question (I don't have SM/BBB in front of me) do watchers not count towards unbound spirit limit?
Yes, Watcher Spirits are counted seperately. A mage can have up to
Charisma watcher spirits in addition to
1 unbound spirit and
Charisma bound spirits.

Not sure what the point is: firing tracers* at the T-bird.
Did you mean
tracker rounds? That might be useful. Might want to ask the GM if you have tracker rounds, too.
______________________________
*Tracer rounds are phosphorus bullets usually interspersed with normal bullets in belt ammo. They allow the gunner to see where the bullets are going, especially in the dark.
Tracker rounds, a shadowrun invention, "include a special RFID tag inside the bullet designed to mark a hit target".

"Trackers" became "tracers" a couple posts up; I was assumming they were equivalent. The ambiguity is noted, tho, so replace "tracers" with "trackers" above.
@Grandpa, roll your shot. You're at a -3 on your roll (-1 medium range, -2 for moving target).

I corrected the IC. Seems to me like the OOC discourse is self evident.
Assuming that the -1 for range is negated by
Grandpa's cybereyes:
Agility 5 + Longarms 6 + Specialization 2 - Moving Target 2 = 11
11d6.hits(5) -> [1,6,2,3,3,4,1,4,2,1,3] = (1)Whew

... so sending an air spirit after the thing seems like our best bet.
...
If it is warded, there might be a enemy mage following astrally, though, so sending a spirit might tip them off that we are on our way. Worth mentioning - but I don't see any other way around it, since we're out of other options for following the thing to its destination.
First, I apologize for just now noticing this post - that is, the "tip them off" part.
Is this a concern? Is this supposed to be a stealth mission?
My 2

: This isn't the first time this has been tried; the target is probably expecting something. This particular cabin was used before; the previous efforts were probably conducted from here, too. The previous efforts failed; we should expect the target to employ countermeasures.
Let me repeat my previous question: Do you guys want Ziro to follow the T-Bird along with his spirits, or do you want Ziro to remain at the cabin to provide magical protection for the group?

Either one. I was mostly throwing the "tip them off" thing out there so we at least think about it. I think you've brought up some good points.

Looks like a hit.
Are those stealth or security tags? Your choice.
2 minutes until loss of LOS, 3 until you loose the signal from the tag (mountain will block it).

Same here. IIRC, we just tagged the Tbird with a tracer round, sent some spirits to track it, and Oracle did his best to predict where it would land (seeing a city, not wilderness, and not a crash). Unless I am mistaken, we don't have a way to keep up with it, so we're waiting to see where it goes, and make plans from there.
