Question from a geek with inadequate RL car knowledge:
How quickly does a modern, RL production sports or muscle car like Corvette or Mustang go from 0 to 60mph? 7 seconds? 5 seconds? 4 seconds?
(Not the uber-fast, $200000 Lambroghinis (sp), just typical production sports cars.)
(And I can manage the translation to SR acceleration stats myself; just some RL car factoids would be appreciated.)

Ah, thank you!
So an SR acceleration of 16 is pretty good, 0-60mph in 5.0292 seconds.
Oh, wait. That acceleration is how much can be added to the speed per success on a driving test...well, maybe I should start giving my car riggers G-suits...

Yep, just another rule that's kind of odd.

(I still can't quite figure out how Nitrous Oxide Injectors help when braking.)

SHH! Just accept it. They do. *nods*
... Anyway, the idea is that a rigger can do completely insane things, like outrace a manually-driven sportscar in a delivery truck... but you might want to rule things like "only riggers can modify the base speed/accel ratings of a vehicle" and that "each success beyond the first increases the accel by 1/3 (round down)" to a) make the rules a bit more sane and b) prevent driving characters from killing themselves and all other occupants in their vehicles.

Ford Americar from 0-100km/h (~60mph) in 0.75seconds anyone?
I cranked all the Acc figures up a bit, and made it work so that the first success gives you the whole Acc, the next gives you half, the next a quarter, and so on. We haven't had a rigger yet, so generally vehicle movement doesn't matter that much, and the rules haven't been used. But if a situation calls for it, that's how I'll do it.
Each success beyond the first giving 1/3rd is a bit simpler, and gives almost as logical results. If the math proves too complex to do it like I said above, I'll probably do that. I think non-riggers should be allowed to do it though, since a skilled driver should be capable of accelerating a vehicle faster, VCR or not.
On the other hand, if you look at how much more powerful the average sedan engine is compared to what they were e.g. 30 years ago (at least in Europe), and how much more powerful engines can be made, high-end sedans going 0-100km/h (0-60mph) in ~5 seconds doesn't sound that odd. In 0.75seconds it'd give you a nice 13.6G acceleration, enough to black you out immediately.

It's a good thing riggers don't have to rely on their meat vision, then.

Sucks for all the passengers, though.

Not black-out as in loss of vision, but black-out as in loss of consciousness. Being a rigger won't help you much there.

Ah, I thought that took more than a few seconds to occur. I know the visual blackout can occur pretty quickly. But then again, I'm just going on what I've heard second-hand from years ago.

I'd assume that if all your blood leaves your brain, the result is immediate loss of consciousness. Could be wrong though, I've been known to... [Edit]Actually, I guess all blood wouldn't leave your brain, because the accelerating force is directed differently. So you'd only lose vision, if that. It'd be extremely uncomfortable, that's for sure.[/Edit]
In any case, don't lie down with your feet towards the front of the car, or all blood vessels in your head will burst.
