Was just curious about opinions on something. Using the custom lifestyle rules in the runners companion. Under the necessities section. What if you wanted the space portion of this, but without the rest of it? Just buy the workplace quality multiple times?

Personally I'd say you could take the Workplace quality mulitple times. However, that really does only raise the space aspect. Necessities also covers electricity, heat, water, sewage, waste disposal, wireless systems, wiring, plumbing, and the building's stability/integrity. So if you decided to have a Squatter level Necessities, take Workplace quality 2 times (raising the space from Squatter to Luxury)... I'd say that would give you a really giant empty warehouse in the barrens. With no electricity, faulty wiring, windows that are broken, doors that are falling off (or missing), a wall that's got a hole big enough to drive a car in, a roof that leaks, very spotty (at best) wireless access, a generator that can supply a few hours of heat and light a day, no running water, no sewage or waste disposal... you get the point.

Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

I understand it covers other things besides space. Sometimes however that is all you want a place to have. So if I wanted said giant wharehouse or similar. I don't want to pay for quail eggs and servitor drones along with it. So that is why I asked if other people thought that taking workplace quality multiple times would be an elegant enough solution.

Made the most sense to me. Since the quality is right there, does what I want, and I wouldn't have to make something up.

While it sonds good to me as a GM and would be willing to allow it.

However let me also go to the other side of the arguement from my GM's point of view he says:

workplace quality is like a business type thing and if you take it you will also need or get the day time job negitive quality.

So those are 2 points from 2 people on this thought of yours.

My counterpoint to it requiring a day time job negative quality is that it doesn't say it houses a business. Just that it provides extra space where one could be run. It lists having space or a magical lodge as an example. Negative lifestyle qualities to offset it, sure. Actual character negative qualities, not so much.

Should probably say, that would just be a point I would bring up. I wasn't trying to imply your GM was wrong or anything.

Except it would not necessarily be in the Barrens - that is covered by Neighborhood. Level 1 Necessities could very well have faulty wiring or other similar issues, but it would still be able to provide power for a Level 2 or 3 Workshop - just not reliable power.
