Full Version: Music to dance by
Dumpshock Forums > Discussion > Shadowrun
Chrysalis
Greets,

I was going through my dance repertoire and after listening to Lollipop and Kissed a Girl (and I think I liked it). for what feels like the nth time, to the point that I want kill Lil' Wayne and Katy Perry.

Anyways, I was looking for slow, nice music, that would not only be fun to dance (strip) to, but also would have a Shadowrun theme. So far I have George Michael's Freek on my list. Any others? What about dance songs like Crystal Method's Gyromancer?

Oh and I looked into the 80s theme already and its not danceable or then makes me feel like I am a 40 year old stripper with the words 'sponsored by DuPont' tattoo'd across my thigh.
AngelisStorm
Wooo... um... I shall get back to you about this tommorow (when I shall edit my post with my answer).

"Nice," slow, dance (Shadowrun) Music? Tough one.
WeaverMount
Well Crystal Method's Vegas original compositions for a club in Vegas. I was thinking about mentioning Aphex Twins. It's pretty shameless futurist/non-representational, but it has a lot more feeling and emotion (read as any feeling) than other music in it's vain. Then I remembered Uberzone. It's a lot more bawdy in it's sound other comparable groups.
Wesley Street
If you're sick of T-Pain (who isn't?) and are looking for techno-to-sway-your-tits-to there's Daft Punk's Emotion or Something About Us.

Or you could go back in time and dance to the music that the godfather of cyberpunk listened to for inspiration, Steely Dan.

Ummm... define slow. To me slow means Doom Metal so I might need a few pointers here.

God, we used to play that at the strip club I used to bounce for when noone was in the club.

Are you defining "slow" as the tempo of Lollipop and Kissed a Girl? As in not what would be considered an older slow dance song but you're looking for a strong regular beat at maybe 60-120 BPM?

Not usually my style but maybe.

A few thoughts if you are looking for 80s and SR sounding.

Shriekback - Nightown

Love and Rockets - So Alive

The Cure - oh just about anything, Try "Charlotte Sometimes", "Pornography", "Lovecats", or "Disintegration"

Peter Murphy - anything from "Deep"

It depends on what you are really looking for, the right sonic atmosphere or somethign that you can actually dnace to. There are more and better songs, but I have to run to a meeting.
knasser

I like something slow and jazzy for that sort of thing. I'm not sure I can quite make a Shadowrun connection with this but it sounds very Film Noir... "Sway" by Anita Kelsey (it was used on the Dark City soundtrack). Another possibly nice one is Temptation by Diana Krall.

I'm sure I can think of some more for you in a while. Or maybe you want something a bit livelier. Let me know and I'll try and think of something more suitable.
Chrysalis
I am looking for something more house or trance that is fast so I can show off a lot of more technical moves. Also with a faster beat I can move at different speeds. With a lot of hip-hop being the beat of uh-huh uh-huh it does not give much variation.

Sometimes I need to slow down during songs, other times I need to speed up. Also some of the daft punk songs use distortion quite a bit, which unless you happen to be listening to it on your Koss headset and your B&O stereo, sounds like feedback.
Wesley Street
Darn those strip club owners! Always skimping out on quality sound systems!
TKDNinjaInBlack
In that industrial list you are missing some essential KMFDM. They have a wide range of musical speeds, and most of their 1989-1995 stuff is the industrial of cyperpunk/shadowrun fantasies I have. You need to listen to some PsyTrance along the lines of VNV Nation, Decoded Feedback, Covenant, Aghast View, and Melotron. These all have vocals laced through them that just ring of 80's New Wave as well, so they definitely help give that cyberpunk feel.
sunnyside
By the way are you also looking for music with a mood? You seem to maybe be leaning toward "happier" songs.

i.e. would
Oomph - Augen auf

Will.I.am - Heartbreaker

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XMKkIRcKsA

It's got a nice slick beat to it, good enough lyrics, kind of a techno beat, and it's probably something you could strip to. Well... if your a heartbreaker that is.

Harder, better, faster, stronger - Daft Punk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgBgnoEY4iM

Certainly SR themed, and does have some slow to fast bits.

Heatwave-Boogie Nights

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOe2H3tRjjM...feature=related

This is more of a long shot, but it sure is a good dancing song.
Aaron

Massive Attack - Man next door
Letzte Instanz - Kopfkino (Video version) - damn, they should've included this mix on the album.

I want happier songs, because customers don't need to be reminded of being depressed and when they are happy they also take me for lappies. The promise of happy is a good thing.

Although Oomph's Augen Auf is now going into my personal playlist.

Perhaps I missed it, but I take it, this list isn't just for a game setting in a strip club. It's stuff you actually are going to dance too?
Wesley Street
Yes. She is an adult entertainer.

Or so she claims. I've never been to Oulu. nyahnyah.gif
Fuchs
Never been to Oulu either (I think. Last time I was visiting relatives in Finland they'd not have let me enter a bar, much less a club, and I was more concerned with getting the hottest new toys, which were Star Wars action figures following the original release of Return of the Jedi than checking where we actually were on the map.)

I'd give 60s and 70s music a shot though, usually nice to listen and dance to.
masterofm
You said for a shadowrun type of theme I thought so there are quite a few that might not be easy to fit into. Heartbreaker is a teasing kind of song, but what type of song are you aiming for. Teasing and taunting, or something with more of a beat that you can bend some crazy moves around a pole/stage?
Chrysalis
Definitely I am looking for more teasing songs, speed is a bit hard since it is between what is considered slow and danceable. Massive Attack's Mezzanine and Depeche Mode's Violator albums are really good examples of Shadowrun themed music I can strip to.

Yes I work as a stripper and no we don't have a resident DJ.
sunnyside
For teasing maybe Depeche modes "only when I lose myself"

It has what I would think would be a pretty dancable ~60 BPM beat lying under it too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpxeTIeGb-s

And maybe the closer to 120BPM Boomfunk MCs "Sky's the limit" which is just a fun song at any rate.

In that case, let me trim my suggestions to:

Harmony Steel, "Tripping the Deck"
Kruder & Dorfmeister, "Original Bedroom Rockers"
Machines of Loving Grace, "Golgotha Tenement Blues"
Ministry, "The Angel"
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, "China de Sade"
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, "Sexplosion!"
Sister Machine Gun, "Burn"

Hi,

Thanks for all the submissions. I have been working through them all today and so that this is not completely lost I made up several playlists:

Music I would strip by

Industrial music to strip by

Well, if you mix together "dancing girl" with cyberpunk I can't help but think Kidneythieves (or this one which is slower) but that might just be because of N.G Resonance in Deus Ex: Invisible War.
And this one too but that's just because it's New Rose Hotel.
Fyndhal
If you can track it down, Crystal Method did a remix of Garbage's "I Think I'm Paranoid" which might meet your approval. The title of the remix is "I Think I'm Crystalized." Quite good.

There's also "Six Underground" by the Sneaker Pimps.

Some alternatives to "Send Me An Angel" (I hate those DSA guys. short story but irrelevant to the topic.)
Zeromancer - Send Me An Angel

Paul Oakenfold - Send Me An Angel

Something to tease the boys to

Shiny Toy Guns - Le Disko

One of my favorite Berlin tracks "Sex (I'm A)" is always great.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfeTQzCq1cQ

and some great covers of Sex

Lovage - Sex (I'm A)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4joDAJQA30
Their album "Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By" is awesome. Full of tracks for sexy times.

Peaches - Sex (I'm A)

Just about anything by Praga Khan(of Lords of Acid) would work for you. "Naked" is a great track, but I can't find a you tube link.

Praga Khan - Supermodel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl1_o_h4HYg

Praga Khan - Falling
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfZfdYR0xAo

Speaking from an end user point of view, Pulp "This Is Hardcore" is a great song to get a dance to if you're in the mood for something a little slower without synthesizers blazing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmP4_SC43-E

Punx Soundcheck - Neo-Burlesque is great, but I can't track it down online.

Rob Zombie - Pussy Liquor
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRDrRAEb2Cg

Klaxons - Golden Skans (SebastiAn Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLgAHINnFbw

Since you like Depeche Mode I'm going to suggest Electro-Mode a tribute to DM
http://mp3.rhapsody.com/album/electromodea...tetodepechemode
I personally like Orphans of Infamy's cover of "It's No Good" and Sky Tribe 3's "Get the Balance Right"

and for some "happy" techno that's not too fast from the days I used to eat lots of eX
Sunscream - Love You More
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sqopov0dn3I

Now back to plotting the doom of my players.

You should check out "Professional Killer" by KMFDM.

The only YouTube video I can find that has the original (album version) of the song is a silly anime video HERE.

If I was going to get a lapdance, it would have to be to When The Levee Breaks. Probably not appropriate, but the beat is just right for grinding.

I think I keep coming back to this thread because I have some sort of fascination with a stripper that dances to cyberpunk/shadowrun themed music. All the ones here in the states just dance to pop shit.

My suggestion to you chummer is to hop online and you can probably find some clubs that cater to the music you like. Another suggestion is to scope the parking lot out if they don't have valet parking. You can probably get a decent idea of the clients inside by looking at the vehicles, checking out bumper stickers and the rims of the vehicles. Which will probably relay to the music being played. (This works well for casing places in SR too)

Also, keep in mind the dj's job is to keep people moving and spending money, making sure everyone is having a good time. If there is a certain type of music you like, go up to the dj ask him if there are any girls that like dancing to [insert name here]. He'll probably know, he'll point them out to you. Then you slip the guy $5-10-20 and he'll make sure the girls that like that kind of music will have it to dance to. I should also note, If the dj sees you not tip the girl dancing to the music you requested, figure he's probably not going to play it for you any more.

Made some neat CD covers. My issue is that for me to do any better demands me owning Adobe illustrator and having access to places where I can use royalty free vector graphics (some of which I noticed cost 100 dollars an image).
