Full Version: Technomancer Build

Hello, this is my first post on the forum, and my first build for a technomancer as well.

'Jacob' is a Networker and a follower of Paragon 'The World Tree'. Before the Crash he was a nobody, a junior editor for a news blog. After the crash he became aware of his abilities and the link between everything in the matrix. His main personal goal is the gathering of information, and spreading that to the greater public.

Character creation is a standard 400 points build and about everything is allowed. However, in the concept, a very social technomancer, whose main goal is to dig up the truth, I came a little bit short in the concept. As if I'm missing something really important.

As for my experience, I have so far only played a social adept, so that might be the problem as well.

Combat Paralysis will get you killed, In Debt could be dropped in to replace it and would help with gear.

Shield is a better CF than Armour. Armour is no use against Black IC and only reduces damage whereas Shield could prevent you getting hit in the first place. Take both if you can but Shield if you can't.

Combat paralysis might get him killed, but being in combat AT ALL will get him killed. It is the nature of noncombat builds.

Combat Paralysis is good for noncombat builds. Seeing as it is a primarily Matrix character, you could drop your Physical stats to 2 (or even 1), and raise your Reaction with it.

See if your GM will allow Charisma times 2 for free contacts. If so, drop 2 BP on lifestyle (2 months Medium), and then get another Skill Group point. I would say Cracking.

Yes, Shield, I utterly missed that Complex Form. It's indeed quite useful.

The Combat Paralysis is there because well ... 'Jacob' does not intend to get into physical danger. For that there are his fellow runners. A spell-slinger, a rigger, and likely a cybered streetsam but it might also become a hacker (damn player can't make up his mind). Also the group is fairly social in nature.

As for contacts, unfortunately I have to buy them out of BP, or go without them at start. The characters are fairly contact light (at least those I have heard of so far).

AFAIK Matrix Combat counts for Combat Paralysis. Not a good idea.

AFAIK?

Acronyms are getting way too complex.

As Far As I Know... I know, but still, what happened to the good old days when people spent an extra 1/2 second to type this stuff out?

But yeah, Combat paralysis does count for matrix and astral combat, not just the physical kind. I don't think an automatic not first on each combat is that big an issue, but it can be painful at times.

Its a solid mid-power level TM as written.
If I were playing it I'd probably change Chatty to First Impression and take 10 of tghose 12 remaining points and get the social group up to 4.
crizh
It'll take more than half a second to type it out on this Nokia.
Alieth
Combat Paralysis just lowers his Initiative by half in the first Initiative Test, and puts a +1 threshold on surprise checks. Not really that bad for a noncombat character. While it does affect Cybercombat, the character isn't really built for cybercombat.

Okay, with all the help I received from people here, this is the updated version of the character.

The combat paralysis is out the door. Replaced with 'In Debt' and 'Records on File' This fits in with the background story.

More suggestions to improve upon this without blowing it out of the pipe is welcome.

Influence 2, Hacking 4 comes to mind.

Tasking: You only need compiling and registering, so buy those individually. Even better, shift to compiling 2, registering 4 (sprite type of choice +2).

The 4 BP left go to increasing CF ratings. You won´t need Encryption as CF, that one can be threaded. Command would make for a good replacement.

QFT. Decompiling fell in relative value when Unwired came out. With the program options in Unwired and Paladin sprites, etc., there are a lot more ways to stay alive when fighting Sprites and with program options like Rust and CF's like Disarm there are tons of ways to derez them more effectively. Decompiling works well, but no longer as well as beating the sprites in (a properly buffed Avatar) in Cybercombat. Heck, the Shields CF itself drastically skews things towards the defender!
