Reading the SM section on Stacked Foci (SM page 84).

I'm having a bit o' trouble figuring out how it works.

Say you're stacking a force 4 counterspelling focus with a force 6 sustaining focus.

1) The effective Force is 10. Does this mean that you're now wielding a focus that can counterspell OR sustain at force 10?

2) The cost to bind a stacked focus is equal to the sum of the cost to bind the different focus types at the given Force. Does this mean you have to pay 24 karma (force 4 cs + force 6 sust) or does it mean you have to pay 50 karma (force 10 cs + force 10 sust)?

No. But for all tests that target the Force of the stacked focus, like walking it through a ward, the effective Force is 10.

Don't forget the astral signature left behind by the focus lasts for force hours, which in this case is 10.

To create a stacked foci do you nead a formula for the combined force of the stacked foci (in the example above 10)?

And do the stacked foci (with force 10 from the above example) count as 1 foci regarding the maximum foci you can bind or as 2 foci?

Best wishes,
