My character Sonya I have been playing for the past six months and I have been guaranteed an upgrade. I was asked to come up with a list of cyber/bio/nanoware to the tune of 250k.

Rules are it has to be 250k or under, can't go past her existing essence, and preferably upgrades instead of just removals. Books allowed are BBB, Augmentation, Arsenal, Unwired.

Does your table handle essence holes as generic or flavored.
Just asking becouse if there are no house rules in use, it's pretty damn hard to shift that character to use bioware. cyber.gif

Switching from cyberware to bioware is damn near impossible for this character, so it's heavy on the cyberware with a splash of nanoware and a single geneware item

1) Adapsin :nuyen:30000 and 0.2 bioware Essence (or 0.1 total) Essence. Done prior to all other surgery for 10% off the Essence cost of all the new stuff.
2) Remove Aluminum bone lacing. Upgrade to alpha grade titanium. Cost nuyen.gif 80000 and 0.21 Essence.
3) Cranial commlink to Response 6. :nuyen:8000
4) Cranial commlink to Signal 6. :nuyen:3000
5) Add Simsense Accelerator to cranial commlink. :nuyen:15000
6) Add customized interface to cranial commlink. :nuyen:250
7) Add optimization (command) to cranial commlink. :nuyen:500
cool.gif Add Hardening-6 to cranial commlink. :nuyen:150
9) Nanohive-1 (alpha) :nuyen:20000 and 0.6075 Essence. Supports a free floating nanite system
10) Control rig booster-3 :nuyen:15000. 3 more dice to vehicle checks should always be welcome.
11) Reaction Enhancer-2 upgraded to Reaction enhancer 3 (alpha). :nuyen:40000 and costs 0.129 Essence

Final Essence is 0.3035 for an increase in survivability via the bone lacing upgrade, a pile of commlink upgrades, a slight increase in reaction, and even more vehicle test dicepool inflation.

OK one thing that I noticed is this character has no form of IP enhancement. Here's what I would get:

  1. Synaptic Booster 2
  2. Cyber hand or foot
  3. Datajack put in the cyberhand
  4. Nanohive (Rating 4) put in the cyberhand
  5. Reusable Auto-injector with 5 extra doses put in the cyberhand
  6. Nano biomonitor
  7. upgrade the cybereyes to rating 3 and put in Vision Enhancement level 2 and eyelight system.
  8. upgrade the cyberears to rating 3 and put in Audio Enhancement level 2 and spatial reconizer.


With the remaining 25000 nuyen.gif I would get a Trauma Control System Nanoware system (level 6) for 12000 nuyen.gif and control rig booster (level 2) for 10000 nuyen.gif . The only reason I said about the control rig booster is it seems that this character is the "wheel woman" as well as a combat specialist.

KCKitsuine's build is the best so far, but you are effectively totally crippled because you cannot switch to bioware.

Ask your GM if you can have 'floating' essence holes that you can toggle between cyber and bio, and you suddenly have heaps of options.

I had a chat and I do have "floating essence holes".

I can reuse the essence loss however I please, but I don't get it back.

Okay, makes it much easier now we can jettison stff like the muscle replacement and air tanks and buy something actually useful.

Also, is anything 'mad important' to your character concept.

Let me say that the air tank has been more useful than most pieces of cyberware. There are so many things you can avoid. For instance my street sam has walked through a burning building without the smoke inhalation problem, through toxic clouds, and had the option on being underwater for over 30 minutes.

I think that essence would be better spent on an extra IP, but ymmv I guess haha.

You can get some pretty low profile rebreather options if its a concern.

My suggested upgrades would give Chrysalis' character the extra IP. Also by going with a Synaptic Booster she can get rid of the reaction enhancers and free up some Essence for extra 'ware in the future... maybe like Orthoskin. smile.gif

Also by not going through the "replace everything with Bio", it saves money and downtime for her.

As I said above, yours is the best so far smile.gif However, it is non compliant with the rules as written 'cannot go past the existing essence'

Given that constraint, I think the bioware version is, in the abstract, better. For example, muscle toner 4 is a real possibility if you remove the augmented muscle, jettison the air tanks and get synaptic boosters.

Hell, just jettison the air tanks at get synaptic boosters 3 haha. Thats a cool combat boost there.

I´d say replace your muscle replacement with muscle aug/toner 3 and Suprathyroid Gland. Baseline 90k¥/1.9 essence(bio). Invest some 30k¥/0.3 essence(bio) in synthacardium 3. Overall: Essence(Bio) 2.2, 120k¥.

How about creating a custom rigging suite? Comlink/Control Rig/Data Jack/Attention Coprocessor...

Sorry about that Cthul... I wasn't thinking when I typed my response. You are right though, I ignored her OP... My updated list is below.

@Ryu: Her character is a combat specialist. She needs the IP a LOT more than an improved Rigging setup. I only thought about nanoware Control Rig Booster because it's pretty cheap and with a rating 4 nanohive she can afford to have the one slot used by the booster to help her with her secondary job.

The Bone Lacing, air tank, Control Rig, eyes and ears stay.

With these upgrades Chrysalis, your character should be nastier, but to really get all the mileage out of these upgrades you'll need to get some nanogear like Control Rig Booster, and Trauma Control System. Those will set you back some nuyen.gif

IMO it would be a shame not to make her into a novice combat rigger. Gunnery 1 (ballistic weapons +2) would be a serious increase in firepower. (Side-question: Scorched for 5 BP, but Cracking 3?) Her own IPs would be rather insignificant, considering that a swarm of combat drones can easily bring another half dozen of effective IPs per turn. As all the minimum ware is already there, this is independent of the upgrade issue. A suite would just save more essence, and a VCR should be alpha anyway (0.1e saved for 10k¥, or 0.15 for 8k¥ in a suite.)

My suggestion above would still leave room for Synaptic Boosters 1. With the synthacardium and stat boni gymnastics dodge becomes scary. I didn´t catch the high natural agility, so the aug/toner would have to be rating 1.

Not a big thing, but I noticed a couple accounting errors (unless there is errata I don't know about).

The Cyberears Rating 2 take up .3 Ess (not .2), you've filled the current ears but list it as 7 of 8, and the Smartlink in the eyes is capacity 3. Nothing major, but it does mean you're at 1.25 essence.

As for a suggested upgrades:
1. Upgrade the Eyes to Rating 4 Alphaware, adding Vision Mag, Vision Enh. 3, Eye Laser System, EL Range Finder, and EL Laser Mic 3 to existing enchancements.
2. Upgrade the Ears to Rating 3 Alphaware, adding Audio Enhancement 3 and Increased Sensitivity to the existing enhancements.
3. Swap the Muscle Replacement with Muscle Augmentation and Muscle Toner, both at Rating 3.
4. Add the Vocal Range Enhancer bioware.
5. Add Synaptic Booster Rating 1 for an extra initiative pass, (no boost to Reaction though as the Enhancers are higher)
6. Add Touch Link.
7. Reakt transgenic treatment to add (+2 to defending reaction tests).
8. Reflex Recorder for a +1 rating to any combat or physical skill or a Sleep Regulator.
8. Leaves the Commlink, Control Rig, Internal Air Tank, Bone Lacing and Reaction Enhancers untouched.

This gives you an extra IP, an additional +1 to Str and Agi, +3 to Visual and Auditory Perception tests, 4 new communication methods (High and Low freq., Laser and Touch-Link), and a +2 to Reaction tests for defense. It also leaves you with a .03 essence hole and 11,000 nuyen.gif to upgrade the commlink (.01 hole if you go with the Sleep Regulator). Or you can drop the Touch Link and up the Reflex Recorder to a full skill group and hit the 250,000 nuyen.gif on the nose and have a .08 essense hole.

I also say do some minor combat rigger stuff; it seems like it could really branch out the character more and that cracking group at 3 is pretty nice. Yeah, keep room for a Synaptic Booster; Passes are Good.

Only need Toner/Aug Rating 2. Her high Agility makes it reach the cap, and 3+2= 5 strength, might as well go with the odd number(the only thing she'd get with 1 extra str is a couple of skill with 1 extra die, and a Synthacardium could add much more, from a bit of an optimization standpoint.)

But the Alpha upgrades to eyes/ears, Aug/Toner 2 to replace Replacement 2, a Synaptic Booster, and maybe Synthacardium would be nice. Sleep Regulators are very cool, as well.
