Adam will probably have a pretty version of this up on Shadowrun4.com later, here's the cut/paste for those who need it now.

BobbyDerie> Aaron is the one who proposed. If you haven
PeterTaylor> "Ghost Cartels" also features a new format which combines what I believe are the best features of our traditional adventure/campaign formats: standalone/canned adventures, episodic campaigns, and track campaigns. I'm very interested in hearing how you liked this new format since it may impact how we treat future metaplot projects.
stephen_mcquillan> *cough*Aaron*cough*, My understanding is that she said yes.
Canis: From the teasers I've seen on SR4.com, Ghost Cartels looks awesome. I can't say any more, since it took my FLGS in the Smoke a month to get stock and so I couldn't get hold of it while in the UK last month. So I'll spend Boxing Day reading it

OK, where is this cleverly inserted proposal?

Ryu: Unfortunately, no dragons... ::wink
PeterTaylor> I was going to mention that. I know it pissed a lot of people off, but I couldn't have asked for more hype for "Runner's Companion" than we got from that late April's Fools joke

That was one hell of a shiatstorm. I'd still like to see dragons make it official as potential runners.

What.

Shadowrunner69: Other than Nigel D. Findley, which he announced on his web-site that he was contracted, what other Shadowrun paper-back novel authors are contracted despite the delays? Any of the old authors like Mel Odom, Carl Sargent & Marc Gascoigne, Stephen Kenson, Lisa Smedman, etc?
PeterTaylor> We've announced that the first novel is likely to be by Mel Odom. Several other "classic" authors and established writers who are taking their first steps in Shadowrun will be contributing to an upcoming anthology of Shadowrun short stories. Other names will be announced once the novel line is up and running.

D. Findley and Carl Sargent might rejoin the SR novel authors' team? Like how? Findley's dead, and Sargent 'medically not capable to write novels', which can only mean comatose. Did I miss something? Could someone please link me Findley's web page?

I'm honestly not sure what that person was referring to, frankly.

Specifically, it's in the first three paragraphs, ignoring headers. If you keep going after that, you get a lot of weird unpronounceable words that might be the unspeakable names of forgotten gods and the means by which to call them up from their deep slumber.

There are other such messages in various other places in the book, and by "messages" I mean the twisted wreckage that is an acrostic after editing. You can still find words that were once parts of messages scattered here and there. For example her full name appears in the book, separated by several words in proximity to words like "will" and "marry."

A very cool idea. How did you make her notice?
The Jake
Interesting reading.

PROS -
I really like the idea of having more e-book supplements to whet players appetite's inbetween books and flesh out more detail.

CONS -
I am not always willing to fork out cash for them. Some free PDFs like WOTC would be nice. For big ones, sure, but I definitely need to be sold that the content is worthwhile.

I'm also not keen on having to pay money to make a city book more playable because you've cut the detail from the book and decided to stick it into a PDF to save space and generate more revenue. That goes double when the extra space is used to detail 3 cities in 10 pages. Not cool in my eyes.

I love the new format of the books for the most part, but I am not impressed with the way the city books are shaping up thus far.

they did mention at least one free ebook coming out and it is suppose to be our fairly soon (fairly soon is as solid of a date as they would commit to). Will there be more after that? depends on how things go is what I expect. DG (digital grimare) was the stuff that didnt make the cut in StreetMagic. so if they didnt release the PDF then it would have gone to the bit bucket.

Trying to figure that out, as the move to stop accepting applications doesn't seem to have been deliberate.

Canis: Will we ever see any more continent spanning books like the 'Shadows of' series or will SR4 concentrate on the individual cities with the surrounding country being a segment in the chapter?
PeterTaylor> We'll be doing a brief global overview in the Sixth World Almanac but we're currently discussing what might follow further down the line. Whatever they are, I would very much like to make the books relevant and integral to the plot material we are developing.

Would that discussion happen to include the fate of the missing book of SR3, SoLA?
Aaron
Y'know, if Catalyst ever actually printed SoLA, we'd lose a great running gag.
Wesley Street
I swear, I'm two heartbeats away from whipping up a fan-made SoLA and selling it on the black market just so I don't have to hear about it anymore. Or what would be even better, I hope Catalyst does print it and it turns out the citizenry of Lima, Peru are all golems made of chocolate. And it has rules for creating a Great Dragon/Immortal Elf hybrid PC. Yeah!
Red_Cap
Ooo! Chocolate golems! I never thought of that. Seems like a great way to keep all the female PCs distracted.

That would at least be more than we know right now about part of the corner of the world Ghost Cartels plays in. nyahnyah.gif
BishopMcQ
Feral Cities does have some info for you about the Ghost Cartels and their playground.

Will a print option exist for the eBooks? I ask because if the eBook is beyond around 25 pages, I'd rather just have a print copy. The SRMs work fine as print outs since they're relatively short.
BishopMcQ
I haven't heard anything about print versions of the eBooks. Using Digital Grimoire as an example, I don't think the eBooks would ever be longer than one of the SRMs. (The SRM 02 campaign averaged around 20-25 pages for Mission plus Handouts IIRC) Adam, of course, may come behind me and correct me.

Print shops like Kinko's can knock out a BW print of your 25 page file for less than $3. That may be the way to go if you want print outs. I use PDFs on my computer at home when writing up campaigns and game sessions, and just have a 3-Ring binder for notes and handouts. The eBooks, like SRMs before them, get printed out and thrown behind the appropriate tab for table reference.

Immortal elves were the result of dragons mating with elven women (ergo they are dragon/elf hybrids); it wasn't for pleasure though, it was to produce servant worthy of a draconic master, natiraly dragons didn't bother to check (meta)human nature and did miss the little particular that we don't like being slaves, when peoples got realy fed up used the knowledge gained while serving the dragons to try to kick their selfrightous asses, the attempt wasn't quite successfull but the fight was good enough to convince the dragons to not produce hybrid spawn anymore.
Now that was the 4th world, in the 6th world dragons might find usefull having kids among (meta)humans, not to mention the ammount of cash that Horizon would pay a dragon to perform (even without a simring) in a dragon on elf pornografic sim-flick.

I hope they do start print options for eBooks, esp things like city books for 4 reasons:

1: Paying 5-10 or more for an eBook and the 3-5 to print it is a pain
2: the printouts never last as long as my campaigns
3: Some people (like me) despise eBook and want a real damn book
4: e-refences tend to make my group bring out laptops, a real no-no as they are distracting enough to destroy our gaming sessions.

There are no plans to offer print options for eBook exclusive projects. There are several reasons for this:

-Printing a 20-30 page book and offering it through distribution is not economically viable.
-If we were to offer print on demand services, shipping costs would significantly exceed the (PDF) purchase price.
-Printing a copy yourself is just too cheap.

For a 28 page PDF, getting double-sided prints at my local copy shop is less than $2. Spiral binding it with a plastic front and back is available at a total cost of under $5. At that point, if you're destroying the sprial bound book, you've had to work pretty hard at it. If I print it myself on my home printer, do 2 pages per shet and stick it in a binder, my cost comes out to well under $1.

Just for reference, if we offered a 24 page POD softcover book through LuLu, it would cost you $6.10, plus shipping, and we would see absolutely zero profit on it -- if we wanted to make any money, we would have to mark it up further. Note that it would be staple-bound, not perfect-bound [can't perfect-bind a book that thin].

The Lulu price calculator is here: http://www.lulu.com/en/products/paperback/..._product_portal

Obviously, if we printed 100 or so of them, that would push the price per unit down, but then we would have to ship them from LuLu to our warehouse, our warehouse to stores and direct orders, and it would get marked up each step of the way -- all for a few hundred dollars profit on our end, which frankly, isn't worth our time.

Thanks. I thought the books were going to be longer. I have no problem printing out 24 pages.
BishopMcQ
All the sourcebooks, novels, etc will continue to be printed. I don't see that ever changing. Adam did mention in the chat the possibility of eBooks for the novels using Kindle, the Sony system, or straight PDFs for people with ebook readers. That is obviously undecided at the moment, but it'd give me a reason to buy one of the ebook readers I've had my eye on.
BookWyrm
Straight PDFs make better sense. If you don't have a printer, save it (or have it saved) to a CD-Rom & take it to a local printer-shop. If nothing else, you have it backed-up.
BishopMcQ
Straight PDFs for the eBooks are the current standard, and unless Adam says otherwise, I suspect they will stay that way. The Kindle and Sony formats were mentioned for the novels only, by my understanding.
