This piece of headware grants the bearer a +2 bonus on all tests focused on the user’s mathematical abilities. But which tests focus on the user's mathematical abilities?
Software, all tests from the cracking skillgroup?, computer tests, desinging tests? building/repairing tests, electronic tests, archery, all shooting tests (calculation of wind speeds), piloting tests for everything except groundvehicules, bargaining,?

Barring select situations, none of the Active skills will benefit from a Math SPU.
In other words, the +2 dice pool modifier might as well not exist; it basically does nothing. Do not, however, underestimate the usefulness of the implant. While it does not provide any direct mechanical benefit, the player in a former game that had it used it nearly every session, usually multiple times. He took it more for flavor reasons, & did not really expect to use it, but it was one of the most useful implants the character had.

the Math SPU specifically mentions Decryption. So you got that too.

I would imagine that any B/R skills would use it. To put math in perspective, watch the intro to the show Numbers on TV (previous season). The intro goes into how math is used every day; how it's a part of normal everyday life and that we use it for EVERYTHING.

After reading these posts I can just see my players making up long explanations why a math spu should benefit there (insert name of dice pool here) due to the fact that math truly does influence EVERYTHING.

Unless it was blatantly mathematical (things like navigating via a map, certain computer related tasks, that sort of thing) I'd tell them to fuck off. No you may not have a +2 just because you can plot the parabola of your round in flight using more than 30,000 weather-variable points. You still have to shoot the fucking thing.

Of course, it should be limited to real bare number-crunching things like decryption.
Otherwise, the processing power of a commlink superseeds the SPU completly.
If you want bonus dice for navigation, get an orientation system.

Use the math spu to add to your situational modifier when doing that con test for splitting the loot.
"Of course it's an even split, I got a Math SPU installed!"
