Full Version: Random Plot ideas

Dumori
I have a few long arching plots. However I'm lacking in one shots/small grouped jobs so ideas people. Any ideas its a 1250 karma game so no holds barred.
Oni
Drop bear safari
Jarhead hunting
Attack of the biodrones/warform biodrones
Blood, twisted, toxic mage cults
HMHV and SURGE
Do they have Rivals? Prime Runners are always a good fight.
recover the rogue Cyberzombie
Vision quests/dream quests are always creative and confusing.... and then you wake up.
the whole team getting kidnapped just for a meet with a johnson is always interesting
smuggling runs in a banshee are always cool
technomancer animals messing with the runners
Try and put the team in the media spotlight and see how far they go to stop it
Steal this bulky suit case (Tactical Nuke)

PM me and let me know what you decide to do.

Diamond Mine - Rebels have captured a diamond mine and the local village. It'll be weeks before government forces can be redirected to the remote area, and they contract the mercs to clean out the rebels and hold the mines until these forces arrive. Complications: The rebels are ghouls from Asmando, funded by DeBeers, with a squad of corpsec forces in anonymous gear. The rebels, using the jungle as cover, have set up snipers and spirits to warn them, with orders to withdrawal into the mines as needed. The mines will be booby-trapped, with corpsec laying ambushes and bluffs at every turn. Reenforcements will arrive long before government forces, and the team will have to holdout until then.

Armed Escort - Fuel and supply trucks heading into the mountains have come under attack in recent weeks, but sec forces stationed around the facility are stretched too thin already. The merc squad is supposed to act as deterrent, but they become the target, as the pirates think the SOTA equipment would give them an advantage. Rain, mud, and rock slides add to the fun, while pirates and rebels clash over the goods.
Fix-it
boring-ass guard duty.

yes. I'm serious.
The Neutronium Alchemist
Training mission. Johnson has a number of people he wants trained up to form a militia force so he hires the team to be drill sergeants. Might or might not include leading the new troops on one or two shake down missions.
Naysayer
Help a group of "freedom fighters" to capture a fortified position held by the "supressive regime"/a "merciless warlord".
Then lean back and watch as the mercs witness the victorious "righteous rebels" slaughter their captives and eat their brains to gain their strength/pelase their gods/both.
Browncoatone
Not necessarily hooks, but just some ideas...

Distraction: Team is hired as a part of a coordinated effort to overwhelm a security contractor by attacking one of the sites the company is contracted to defend. The catch is that the team can't just sneak in and out, nor can they just bug out once the heat comes down but have to stay a specified period of time in order to allow the other teams to complete their work. Take extra trauma patches.

Ork revolution: An underground group is setting the stage for the local city (Seattle, Sydney, Hong Kong, whatever) to become an independent citystate. The catch is that the group intends this new sovereignty to become an ork nation or perhaps an ork only nation. You can complicate matters by introducing two factions: one that wants New Cara Fahd as a free city for all orks, and another, supported by the Sons of Sauron, that wants to eliminate all non goblins- especially elves.

Once more with FEELING!: After your team makes good with the swag from a dangerous infiltration of a corporate compound for a data steal, arrange for the Hacker's comnlink to be fried (gunshot damage perhaps) on the way out or by a 'random gang attack' afterwards that destroys the swag, thus forcing the team to do the run all over again.

Little Lost Sheep: A United Nations' Envoy is lost in a hostile city. The mercs must recover the group before the local warlords. Complications: they mustn't disturb the fragile cease fire between the two ethnic tribes (aka, leave no witnesses).

Constructicons: The mercs are hired to supplement corpsec forces at a remote construction site, where drone construction equipment is building a power station. The local spirits have other ideas, and cause havoc when they possess the nearly indestructible drones. Complications: Spirits with hacker backup.

Ute Don't Belong Here - A few Anasazi tribes and a unit of AWOL Ute Nationalist have been gunrunning between Aztlan and the Mojave. The PCC wants the operation stopped, with extreme prejudice, and they've got money to burn. Complications: Toxic scorpion shamans with radioactive scorpion spirits and RPGs on their home turf, the Mojave desert.

I think construction is wining only as it futs with my curent plot rather well.
Neraph
I really like the idea of a Dawn of the Dead styled HMHVV breakout in a remote area (like somewhere in NAN or Africa, somewhere it can really spread) and the group is either hired to prevent it (with extreme prejudice), or their better nature (only really works with moral characters) compells them to stop it.

When it comes to bang bang, I find there's not much funnier than telling the runners there's a (heavily guarded) convoy scheduled to travel down a very long stretch of road and it needs to be either intercepted or destroyed. It's a great exercise in ingenuity and planning, some tense waiting, and then cap it all off with an epic set piece battle. Perfect merc scenario.

Elements that work well:
-Using the environment. River crossings, bridges, ridges, passes, tree cover, etc.
-positioning. Who's going to set up a concealed sniper hide? Who's going to be up close waiting in ambush? Where are you going to put all the drones and spirits?
-Air Support: Helicopters/LAVs/UAVs. The PC's may decide to lay explosives, set themselves up long range hides from which to slaughter the opposition with assault cannons, sniper rifles, rockets/missiles, mortars, etc. if they do this, throw some air support at them. Nothing strikes fear into a merc's heart like an attack helicopter or LAV armed to the teeth bearing down on their position.
-Others: Maybe there's a third party that gets involved. A native tribe? Another merc company with a similar objective? Native spirits repelling invaders?
Dumori
Air suport only lasts so long vs 30 LMGs or a few well place gauss rounds ;)But the ambush will work a treat and i know wherein the plot it is as well.
Mickle5125

Earthquake, during nap time. Ideally, it'd be followed by a meteor strike, or the heat death of the solar system.

Our GM threw us this scenario:

Old building in not-so-good-neighbourhood was planned to be demolished. Unfortunately some eco hip corper found out that it was popular shelter for homeless people.
At the moment demolishing has stopped because of large crowd surrounds area and demands that the company should stop demolishing the building because there are people still living in there.
Company cannot continue because that would be bad PR.
There are few units of Lone Star monitoring situation.
There are news cameras everywhere.
And when runners start to investigate, they find that the few top floor are currently being tranformed to Hive. Bugs have no connection to the crowd, but tend to eat/inhabit anyone trying to come those top floors. Public or Johnson doesnt know this of course.

Resolve situation so that company can continue without harming its public image.

Problems:
Runners cant just blow it out because of bad PR.
There are LS units and cameras everywhere, so they must be careful what they do.
If knowledge of hive gets out, site will be closed for undetermined time so that Ares Firewatch/similar can make sure all bugs are gone. -> big delay and losses to company.
There are at least 3x (runner team) amount of bugs, so taking them out is difficult. Remember Hivemind -> hit one and all know.

Destroy the building with a very, very, very large bomb and pin the blame on shadowrunners hired by a rival corporation to create a PR disaster. Build a monument to the victims in the building parking lot.
