Full Version: Character creation

Ok so here's the low down I made a bunch of characters (10) for people to use as an additional choice to the ones in the core book for Megacon.

Now I make Specialists that are tweaked to do one thing great and a few other things ok. (I.E. min maxxed) now most people took one of mine but yeah one guy took the magic detective.

Mind you no one had any issuses with their characters as I made sure to ask in they liked their guy or wanted to either use a different one or make one during the down time between games.

One player liked his rigger but after a couple of runs was wanting to do the hacking stuff as well so I got home and started playing around but I'm not satisfied.

So here's the request:

Make a 400 BP Shadowrun Missions Leagal Rigger / Hacker his current guy is an Ogre but I don't think race is an issue use what ever cyber / Bio / Gene / Nano you feel makes a good Rigger / Hacker combo or if you can do better make him a technomancer although 2 classes and techno seems like a huge stretch of BP to me.

I offer a prize but heck I haven't had a job in like 2 years.

Thanks for the ideas guys.

I wish you would have asked this when I was playing my hacker/rigger, I had his stats memorized. It's not really that difficult, but in my experience it's easier if you focus more on the hacking aspect and add the rigger aspects as you go along through the character creation. most aspects of riggers are supported heavily by good hackers. A 6/6/6/6 Commlink with a bunch of uber programs wont make you any less a rigger. Usually when making a hacker/rigger I go light on the stats and put as much bp as I can in to resources, the 250K comes in great for drones, programs, and things like shops or tools. When you're making a really tech heavy class be prepared to dish out the Nuyen.

As for a technomancer, well, technomancer's are kind of gimped using the core rulebook. Nearly every group I has been with has used house-rules to improve the technomancer.

Personally, I think your Player needs to concentrate on this thing we call "character development", where you work towards something.

He likes being a Rigger, but wants to be better at being a Hacker - then he should world towards that, not scrap the character and start afresh.

Unless you plan to redesign the character he's been playing for several sessions every single time he decides he wants something different ??

I'm making a similar character right now. I took a core idea for the character to start off (in his case he is a "General Rigger" and prefers to be more like the superhero Oracle). I started off by giving him the basic rigger equipment and comlink (concentrating on communication, EW, and ECCM programs). Most of his drones are light weight spy drones that would do recon for the group while on a run. The rest of his skills are focused on subverting or shutting down the security network of the facility that the runners are infultrating.

Because my character is not a front lines character, there are certain areas that I didn't care about (example he has a body of 2). Using your core idea as a base line, cut back on attributes, skills, and qualities that he will most likely not use (example my character has Combat Paralisis because it fits with his demeniour (he should be screwed in a face to face fight)).

@MatrixJargon: Just a quick note if it matters this build would not be limited to the main core book all core books are allowed to a point the only exceptions would be the optional rules which are not used in Missions. As for starting as a hacker vs. a rigger that maybe a thought.

@Synner667: I would only allow a respec if some major change came down the line from the powers that be. (Weather those powers be wielded by the line developer or our new Missions leaders)

The reason I don't see this as a respec is he played MY character in a couple of games and liked it but was looking for more.

The character in question was my build I made as a pregen character and as I said I build characters heavyly focused on one thing in this case rigging.

It is the standing rule? that if someone plays a pregen be it one the GM made or from the book that the player may if he chooses to rebuild the character or start compleately over with a new one he feels he likes better. (And he gets to keep his money karma items he got as well.)

As to the character developement he has bought the hacking skill with his karma and I would think he'll continue to buy up more of them as time passes should he stay with my build but mine came with hardware and software only which left him no hacking, cybercombat, data search, ect. ect..

Because he does live in the general area of my firebase I said I'd look at the books in detail and see what I could work up and then we could go over it if he were to come to my next gameday.

@TBRMInsanity As to the limited stats that may be a thing I like to build characters with good stats so they can A) fight and B) use good armor (which I try for bodies of 4 thus allowing the armor of 8/6)

As to Combat Paralisis couldn't that be used against you when your jumpped into the drone as it then becomes you doing the attacking? just a thought.

I thank you guys so far for the ideas and thoughts hope I answered some of your queries and look forward to more ideas thanks guys.

Yeah my character will most likely get chewed up in any combat and even if he jumps into a drone he Combat Paralisis will effect that as well, but that is the fun of the character. I play characters because I like the concept, I like playing how they will overcome a situation, and I like to see how good I can do with serious character flaws.

It's a game, I try to have fun.
