Full Version: Ideas for paydata

Hi, everyone,

I thought that I'd seen a thread once with lists of ideas to use for paydata that might be found in a corp's system. The entries were things like "payroll records for the last five years," and "trid footage for blackmailing competitors". Unfortunately, I can't find that thread.

So, can anyone give me a link to that old thread, or provide your own ideas for paydata contents?

No idea on that thread - getting ready for dinner and a search-fu workout isn't what I'm looking for.

However, I humbly submit the following for your consideration:

  • Expense Reports
  • Performance Reports
  • Salary information
  • Profit estimates and/or forecasts
  • Trade secrets
  • Managerial preferences - everything from food and wine to sexual (Handy for seduction, etc.)
  • Reports on possible negative side-effects of a company product

That's all I have time for right now. Good luck!

This is a really nice list, that pretty much covers it. I would also add 'vendor services' (provided and received), customer lists, shipping schedules and any of the data analysis projects on just about anything. Almost anything related to business can be used as paydata, it's just figuring out 1) What's the appropriate paydata for the company or facility and 2) finding out who could profit from it (granted a good fixer could handle this part for the runners).

A good example of what would be paydata today would be vendor contract services (security, janitorial, legal council, utilities, repair services, etc.) whether it's provided to or solicited by the target corp. It's a highly competitive area of business were info brokering and industrial espionage is highly beneficial and hard to prove. Also, the pay scale runs the gamut of low level stuff like custodial services for a 'mom and pop' to high level stuff like security at a secure government facility. Prices are more or less flexible so knowing how much the other guy is charging or by what criteria the client will hire is gold.

While some of these are getting out of hand and silly (which is funny, don't get me wrong) I have one serious suggestion.

My campaign will have a datasteal coming up. The Mafia have found a Vory money laundering company, and pay the runners to steal BOTH sets of records (the actual financial records and the records they show the cops.) The runners turn over the paydata, the mafia turns the data over to the Star, and the Vory suddenly are shut down for a while, and the mafia can go to town.

Actually, #'s 1, 2 and 4 in my suggestion were somewhat serious.

That's a good one.

Maybe you could have the Triads or the Yaks poised to try and grab a piece of that Vory pie?
