I recently was trying to give some quick references to a friend to describe what the 6th world might look like (without the magic, because that aspect is unique to SR).

Here are some of the movies thatcame to my mind:

I, Robot
Bladerunner
Robocop
Freejack
The Matrix

Does anybody have more movies, or some good music source ideas? I am sure more would come to me if I thought hard enough, but I figured it might make an interesting thread. Have at it.

This is something that comes up quite frequently. Here are some threads to reference to see where we've taken it before:

Also, http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?showtopic=26380 is a good spot for various frequently created thread topics.

I tried going back through some stuff but I am sure didn't see it... Thanks.

Ah wth, I know the topic is as good as closed, but My favorite cyberpunk music:

First a 10 page essay on the subject (not mine) http://lemurie.cz/content/download/668/706...e/cyberpunk.pdf

Bad Religion. They sing about cyberpunk.

I think that alot of the Dark feeling of of cyberpunk is reflected in Coheed & Cambria's music. (not many agree with me nyahnyah.gif)
There's always The Matrix soundtrack (some of which fits)
VNV Nation has alot of good Cyberpunk-like songs. As well does Apoptygma Berserk.
For hilarity, listen to Billy Idol's Cyberpunk album. It's awful.

Unrelatedly, Logar's Diary (http://www.logar.org/) is an Earthdawn band. with songs like "The Restless Troll" and "Lonely on the Serpent River". It's awesome.

For specifically inspired Shadowrun Music:
Alarin Music has half a dozen tracks available @ http://www.alarinmusic.com/#2
And deckerM's 3 tracks @ http://members.tripod.com/~deckerM/shadowr...game_stuff.html (at the bottom).

Some day, I hope to finally get around to compiling a real list since I've been personally looking for it for at least 6 years or so. If I ever do, I'll drop a link on the forums somewhere.
Method
I appologize that many of links on that page are broken. Apparently you cannot link to a search for more than a couple days. I might go back and revise it to include walk throughs of how I ran the searches.

For Cyberpunk-ish music I've always been fond of the whole Industrial Metal genre. Fear Factory is a nice example with a "Man vs. Machine" theme in all their work. Their albums Demanufacture (1995) and Obsolete (1998) are really nice - Demanufacture has a really cold machine-like mood while Obsolete is a concept album about an oppressive future society with a nice booklet that connects the songs through interlude texts.
Method
I love Fear Factory as well. NIN also has some good cyberpunk feel to it, especially their recent Year Zero album.

{edit}: man I just pulled Obsolete back off my storage drive. Securitron [Police State 2000] is so Shadowrun... cyber.gif
