Full Version: awaken drugs, capsule rounds, & natural immunity

i have looked through the books, working on a character concept, and cannoy find anything that counters my opinion of natural immunity can protect against one awaken drug

not magically created, but naturally accuring like Laes and nova scropion venom

natural immunity, pg 79/ pg 92, states character is immune to one natural disease or toxin. so is there anything anywhere that states awaken drugs are not natural?
or did I find a grey area?

on a side note, after reading the stick & shock posts, i noticed a major glitched in the "magic armor": capsule rounds. load them up with a contact drug, like 7 7 or neuro-stun, and shot the spirit, the spirit only gets its body to resist, unless it has some special chemical protection, which most spirits don't have; the spirit gets effcted by the drug if it doesn't fully resist the drug's power

mind you, it does state if the attack is melee based, then the defendant gets impact armor to help resist

now if players start suddenly doing this, "I KNOW NOTHING" as Shultz would say

I'd say drugs != toxins or disease, in the context of the rules.

While it's true I do not believe it's explicitly stated in the rules, I would rule spirits immune to drugs as a GM.

I have always played that spirits are immune to pathogens and toxins unless the spirit has a particula Allergy (like insect spirits and pesticides). It does not make sense (this is Chewbacca...) for neurotoxins to harm something that totally lacks a nervous system.

i understand about not having a nervous system.........

but what about a character possessed by a spirit? could drugs then effect it?

You'd knock the host body out cold, which means that the spirit would have to leave or be likewise "unconscious," IMO.

If I were running it, I'd say that Hybrid Form/Flesh Form possessed metahumans can feel the effects of drugs. Not that it'll help much, since possession can grant a pretty insane Body (and Reaction) score.

A metahuman possessed by a spirit is still a living bag of meat, and ought to obey the rules of biochemisty - otherwise Baron Samedi can't get roaring drunk by proxy, and that wouldn't do!

This isn't a hard-and-fast ruling, though, and it does require a sensible GM. A spirit can also possess a corpse, a gun or a plasteel golem, and none of these should be harmed by drugs.

looking through the various Editions (yeah, i got all 4), only the 2nd Ed. states materialization gives spirits with immunity to toxins & pathogens.

is that an oversight by the Devs through the various editions, or do they plan for spirits to be effected by toxins & such?
I looked over the possessation rules, and found nothing immunity to toxins, though immunity to normal weapons was mention, with possible modifers

on the other subject, am I able to have character with natural immunity to Laes?

I don't see an issue with it. It's naturally occurring, though magical.

DMSO is not a poison. Natural Immunity (DMSO) is a bit like Natural Immunity (Water), in that by the time you start to feel the effects of actual DMSO poisoning you're gut is probably bulging because you've been drinking gallons of it.

The only thing you can't have an immunity to are "magical" poisons, like some critter toxins and magical compounds, etc.; laés is merely an Awakened drug and not magical per-se, so it's cool (there's actually a character in Ghost Cartels with that quality).
