Full Version: Visions of Shadowrun: Police Safety Video From The 80s

Well, I just saw a police safety video from the 80s where police officers get attacked by 80s men with various edged weapons. The piece de resistance is at the end when the perp takes what appears to be an Ares monosword and stabs a detective in the belly.

This is pretty much how I envision the use of the Edged Weapons skill in Shadowrun, since this is basically how people percieved edged weapons back in the 80s. Note how the detective misses with his revolver after being stabbed because he's got that M wound now and the TN penalties.

That is a rather disturbing commentary for the video. But some what apt.

LOL That's awesome.

That's pretty dramatic music at the end. I'm not sure the sword wielder wasn't shot - we see a brief flash of him staggering or stooping.

My favorite's the Corvette gentleman in the powder blue t-shirt and off-white slacks, with his fearsome Swiss Army knife, and a bellowed "FACK YEW!"

your forgetting about the blind fire penalty, he is shooting thru a door after all...

and trying to stab someone with a folding blade? unless its a locking blade, its likely to fold over the persons fingers, or even that the grip will slip and his hand slide over the blade that way...

I am sorry, but my biggest issue with the video was:

Both cops that got stabbed were stabbed because they were being stupid. Police in my area when they pull you over stand outside of arms reach until you have that license and registration in hand. And, the cop who was stabbed with the broadsword through a door? What police officer in their right mind is going to stand directly behind the door?

The African-American cop who stayed behind the door of his squad car, and the young cop who had his gun drawn on the homeless guy waving the razorblade were probably the only smart cops in the whole thing.

Yeah, that's what they do in training videos. Show you cops being stupid and getting screwed up as a result, so that the cops watching the video stop being stupid (and, in theory, don't get screwed up).

You might as well be showing Cautionary Tales of Swords

I like all the touchy-feely psycobabble about inner boundaries. Those mean old cops should know better than to invade the personal space of those fragile knife-wielding whackos...

Im going to forward this to my friend who's a cop. I'd hate from him to be caught unawares by an assailant with a bastard sword.
