Anyone know a builds or somewhat to get the highest HP possible, while till of course doing decent say.. damage and other things I guess.

I've read things about 30 soaked dice pool, no idea what that means.
Mirilion
Err. You have no idea what a soak pool is ? Or how to get it to 30 ?
Becasue if you're not sure what a soak pool is, better start at the beggining.

Actually a better question is "Why is he asking about HP?" in a game without vast variations in the amount of damage someone can take.

This is not a D20 game. There are no classes and there are no levels. HPs (as the amount of damage a character can take) are mostly static values.

How should he know what a soak pool is. There is no such thing in RAW, so give the man a break, and give him an answer he can use instead of this.

uhhh well I know this isn't like D&D and its based on a dice pool system. But me and the guys I'm doing this have maybe got a couple of missions only, just asking seeing what we can correct or add to the game that should be there, or take away etc.

Basically I have no idea what the soak pool stands for. That's just one things im asking.

Also I guess I should be more specific with my HP thing. What I really mean is like is there a type of build that lets you take tons of damage, considering you have a heavy dicepool also you're rolling. Not just straight up Body. Such as adept or mystical dept or augmentation or w/e etc. I was asking this question, cause my group is considering is heavy arms useful that many of the missions heaving around a machine gun isn't so well easy, unless one of the guys in our group has a van (with candy).

Right. We don´t have so much SR-players around, so let´s take care of him. In SR you have some kind of...if you like the term "hitpoints" that are calculated 8+(half of your body-attribute). If these ones are gone, it´s game over. But before this happens you have dice pools that PREVENT your HP to drop. This ones are either your dodge pool (Reaction+skill) that negates the enemies successes, or (if he had hit) body+armor+modifications+whatever. This is what is called "soak pool" (if i understood it right by myself). So we don´t have Hitpoints, but we have a condition monitor (the 8+half body). Did that help?

Shadowrun does not use HP, instead is uses condition monitors with a number of boxes. Everytime you take one point of damage, you cross out one of the boxes. So in a way you could say that HP=number of boxes in in your condition monitor.

QUOTE
The Physical Damage Track has a number of boxes equal to 8 plus half a character’s Body attribute (round up). The Stun Damage Track has a number of boxes equal to 8 plus half a character’s Willpower attribute (round up).

So the higher your Body/Willpower the more boxes you will have in your Physical/Stun Damage Tracks

Soak dice pool is slang for the number of dice you use to resist damage. When you resist physical damage you always use your body, and can get extra dice from Toughness, worn armour (modified by AP) and other sources. So a soak dice pool means that you have a combined dice pool of 30 dice to resist damage.

Human w/ Body 4 and wearing Lined Coat (ballistic 6/impact 4) have Ballistic soak pool 10 (Body 4 + ballistic armor 6),
when hit by blades, unarmed hit etc. he have soak pool 8 (Body 4 + Impact armor 4).
When you want build Real Soak monster: Troll W/body 9, Medium Military Grade Armor + helmet (16/14)
Orthoskin R3 and Troll's natural armor of 1= ballistic 29 die soak pool (-/+ AP). and this is pretty low-key
considering what others have made in here.. wink.gif
Mirilion
Oh yeah... I knew what a soak pool is from vampire games, forgot SR doesn't use the term.
My sincere apologies.

Since the game mechanism of SR4 is more or less WoD with D6 instead of D10. The word soak pool is not so far fetched. The correct term would be damage resistance pool.

Wanna go from 0 to Rediculous Velocity in 0 Seconds flat?
Look up Brick or other such Tank Builts around dumpshock boards.
Be prepared to find a character that NOBODY really understands.
Even around here most people don't get all the points of these builts.
You need to REALLY understand the Rules for all the Toys to use that.
But that's the case with most of these builts. Most simple solution?
Play troll, max Reaction and Body. Wear Good Armor. Hope for good rolls.

The only thing I recall for getting a larger condition monitor are cyberlimbs (+1 box per limb). There might be a positive quality too, but I'm not sure if it's a damage box, or an overflow box. Just be sure to have something like a pain editor too, so you don't suffer from the wound modifiers.

Here is an example of a Cyberware Suite that would be available at char-gen. You would need Restricted Gear and it doesn't have any Reflex mod's until you can afford to upgrade.

If you take Biocompatibility Cyber the first suite leave you with 0.835 Essence which is enough to fit the Synaptic Accelerator without upgrading the limbs.

Either way you have BOD/AGL/STR of 9, a Damage Track of 18 boxes and 30 Dice (-AP) for Damage Resistance in the nude.
Dakka Dakka
"Datz a gud Cybork! Don't forget da spiky bits an da stabby bits!"

I guess it only works, if your GM allows it as a Suite. I have not calculated the cost, but I assume it would be more than 6 Essence without the discount.

Oh and forget the skillwires. Rating one is next to useless.
crizh
Oh God yes, it needs to be a suite. Certainly for Char-gen at any rate.

The formatting died a death when I copied it, the Skillwires are rating 5.

Plenty of Capacity left in the arms and legs for stabby stuff too...

Did Bobson ever post his "survive anything" troll to the 800 BP thread? I think that character got up to 40+ dice in the damage resistance pool. The only thing that worried him was the Ares (naval mounted) Gause Cannon, due to the "-Half then -10 AP" and did 18P damage. He'd gotten up to 18 or 19 dice against it though.

This is standard ware right? A character with this ware could probably take Biocompatibility (Cyberware) to get a further reduction. Maybe then it would work without having to beg the GM. How often do you need the restricted gear quality? Or does that only work because of the suite as well, since all the limbs are above 12?

Use [code] instead of [quote]. That way a fixed with font is used. Makes formatting easier.

Ran off scared when i introduced Binky i think.
Mx
For a really high soak pool i got this
CODE
Fomori with 10 Body wearing SWAT Armor with gel packs, SWAT armor helmet, whole PPP system except helmet and form-fitting full body suit.
Augment with titanium bone lacing, dermal sheath 3
So we got soak pool of 10(body)+27/24(armor)+3(bone lacing) = 40/37
Of cource we can get wacky and start adding cyber limbs with max armor, lets say torso plus both legs and arms for +20/20
so we get to a soak pool of 10(body)+47/44(armor)+3(bone lacing) = 60/57

Ofcource he's still no match for Binky The armoured centaur of doom. cyber.gif

Yes well, but then, nothing under the category of greater dragon is ^^

Hit points is as valid a term as "condition monitor"; Hit points tend to inflate with constitution and experience. The only difference is that SR4 includes wound penalties. I've seen a few trolls/orks/tank builds jump on a grenade, saying: "It only does 10 damage, I've got 12+ boxes and a huge soak roll with damage compensators!"

Stahlseele
I've seen that in more than one System, including Battletech, WH40K, GURPS and SR3/4

I agree. It happens in any hit point system. It didn't happen in SR3, IME, because of the staging system, but YMMV on that one.
Stahlseele
Well, Build a Troll with high Body(18 or so should do it) and high Quickness(9 if you can)
Up Reaction, int and thus Combat Pool up to 10. Now implant 3/3 Armor and have him wear 8/8 Armor.
You are now at 11/11 Armor. With about 28 Dice to soak TN's of 5 to 10.
Yes, i did. yes, it worked. No, i was not allowed to play Mr."I can eat a PAC Round for Breakfast" again.
