GT3000 I'll get to review of your sheet in the next few days.

I lied, will get to this when I can.

Let me know your general strategy for "casing" the place, and feel free to make the appropriate rolls.

This will actually be the first time I am playing this set of skills, so I will walk through how I think it works, and you can let me know where I need to change things.

Bongo has the Multi-Tasking adept power (SM p. 178) which allows him to ignore all kinds of distractions, Observe in Detail as a Free Action and two Free Actions per Inititative Pass when not in combat. So I am assuming he can look wherever he wants to relatively unobtrusively and even look around while carrying on a conversation. I do not believe there are any rolls required for this.

Bongo has the Eidetic Sense Memory adept power (SM p. 176) which gives him, among other things, "perfect photographic visual memory" plus memory of all other sensual inputs, and "photo read, greatly increasing ... reading speed." There doesn't appear to be any roll required here, either.

Bongo has the Three-Dimensional Memory adept power (SM, p. 180) which allows him to memorize volumes of space in "ultra-clear detail" and walk through the scene later, doing a Magic + Perception Test to determine how successfully he can recall anything he saw. His Magic is 5, so he can memorize 5 volumes of 25 cubic metres in this way. I don't know to what degree Eidetic Sense Memory(particularly the "perfect visual memory" and "photo read") affects this power, so until you tell me otherwise, DireRadiant, I will not apply any modifier to the Three-Dim roll due to Eidetic Sense Memory. I also don't know how idly touching things, strumming instruments, smelling musty odors, etc. (again, Eidetic Sense Memory) will affect his memory. Assuming a ceiling height of about 2.5 metres, Bongo can then memorize for later detailed analysis 5 areas of 10 square metres. In a pawn shop with wall displays and display cases, he will try to cover the available space with these five areas. The rolls follow below.

If engaged in conversation by the proprietor or other staff, Bongo will be interested in "seeing what bargains are there today", and be non-committal about anything they can "help you with today." Given that a browsing customer may look through things, read things, etc., Bongo will take his time to see as much as he can of each area, even to opening things that look like they would be opened by a browsing customer. He may buy something interesting that shows up if it relates to music. Sheet music, whatever. Maybe set aside at the front counter a couple of things for purchase so the proprietor will be inclined to indulge the shopper's curiosity. Bongo only has 650 nuyen, so he can't spend too much, but keeping the shop keeper happy (and getting those instruments from Mick) is worth a couple hundred anyway.

Three-Dimensional Memory Test ==> 17 dice
(Magic 5 + Perception 3+3 + visual enhancement from contact lenses 3 + active looking 3)

Walks down memory lane later:
Area 1: 5 hits
Area 2: 10 hits
Area 3: 4 hits
Area 4: 4 hits
Area 5: 8 hits

Johnson is mildly augmented, most likely something along the lines of simple implants, like a commlink.

For later ease of reference, I generally prefer if information and results of tests are somehow incorporated in IC posts.

Ah.

Sorry, I didn't notice this the first pass through. I'll see what I can do about Bongo's scan of the pawn shop. I will have to fabricate a little conversation there. Hope I don't overstep some boundaries.

Perfect, I have no problem if you want to be creative setting scenes. Less work for me, more power for you. Check PM. Also if you like Bongo can be introduced at Pier 94 once the others accept the job.
DireRadiant
Busy beginning of this week. COuple IC posts up, should give somethign to keep going.

Meatbag, I'll assume we'll use that data search roll with appropriate topic to search for later.

GT3000, CS and BG review is next on my list.

Anyone else need anything, please ask.

Bongo is free for more work now. (He can be found at home acquainting himself with the new drum kit. Thanks, by the way. That could turn out to be something really cool down the road when Bongo has some karma and new skills.) So if you can swing the story to insert him, I'd be happy to join in.

GT3000, I went over the math, it looks like you did not take into account you receive 21 points in free knowledge skills based on Log + Int * 3. You may wish to recalculate. I get the following

156 Active skills
40 magic
190 attributes
14 gear
10 Quali
14 Contacts
-30 Qual
394

It does look like you meant to add a couple knowledges skill purchases but even if I include that you seem a couple BP short.

I rereviewed my sheet and I made some changes in the active skills and seperated both Knowledge from Active with the BP breakdown. I'm still reading 400BP (+21 for the additional knowledge skills. I don't think you're adding correctly but I might be wrong. 183 Total Skill (69BP Knowledge and 156BP Active) + 40 Magic + 190 Att. +14 Gear + 10 Quali + 14 Contacts - 30 Quali = 421 BP (It's 400 but you said I had 21 free knowledge skills so I tacked them on. Correct me if this is wrong.)

Apologies for my prolonged absence. I haven't had much time to write up a good post until now. It's one thing to surf the boards and make idle chatter while I'm at work, putting my best foot forward for a game takes concentration that I just can't spare.

Gt3000 Introductory scene for Richard posted

Pbangarth, do you want Bongo to join the scene at Pier 94?

Anything else anyone needs, or I haven't answered yet, please ask.

Sure! How do you propose he join the group after they have accepted the job as a 'complete' team?

EDIT: Oh. I should have read the IC thread first.

It's not necessary to join the team on the job. It's a good point to introduce yourself and your capabilities. Bongo has already done his part of the job, the others just don't know it was him. I'm certain questions will come up, and perhaps Johnson will ask Bongo to answer some of them.
pbangarth
Got it. Bongo is available. Further details may require further invention on my part, though.
rathmun
Um, Meatbag, you can use a remote service (which uses up all remaining services unless registered) to have a sprite jump through the resonance to get into a device that isn't otherwise connected. That's the primary reason I think TMs are Really Fsking Scary. They can hack devices that aren't connected to the matrix.

NOTE: the resonance jump can take a while though as the sprite needs time to navigate through the resonance realms.
DireRadiant
You may know that, but not everyone does IC.

True, but in this case I suspect a case of character-has-more-knowledge-than-player regarding Abby. since a TM with compiling and registering both at 4 would probably know a fair bit about the capabilities of sprites.
DireRadiant
Abby is already established as not wanting to reveal her TMness. It would be IC to for her to imply she needs to be physically connected.

Actually, I know that, but Abby wasn't keen on using the T-word in front of an anonymous Johnson. She may play up the aesthetic in the Matrix, but she's keenly aware that there's still a bounty in the meat. She would've changed the plan some time between the meet and the target.

But, since Ed already made the Unfortunate Implications ™, she took it in stride and came out've the closet.

Pointing at a mage and comparing oneself to him only for the matrix is kind of a dead giveaway. especially for a character with no visible cyber. (ultrasound isn't appreciably hindered by cloth.)

Also, Logic 4 translates out to roughly 133 IQ.

Not exactly. It's certainly among the top few choices, but there are other meanings.

"I'm a wizard on the 'trix, yo."

"I'm a hacker Adept."

"I'm a hacker Mage."

All quite possible, really. But considering Ed has worked with a TM before, it's easy enough for him to make the connection.
Meatbag
In case it was missed, I'm using the Data Search roll here to research any six-figure canoes that've been brought to Seattle.

I don't think a Matrix Security roll would tell me much, since I haven't been given any data other than "they stay disconnected."

If I've gotten the description of Chowder wrong, feel free to correct me. I know where my edit button is.

Chowder's a stylin' Ork, omae. He arrived in a slick black pickup. If I get this scene description right, Chowder's truck is on one end of the street, he's approaching Jerry, Jerry's in the middle, and a diesel box style / utility truck just pulled up on the far end with a human driver approaching.
Zaranthan
Ah, I get it. Same post, other NPC.

Okay, now I'm chronologically confused. I thought the delivery driver already got out and started walking down the street. Is Tomas the driver or was he riding shotgun?
DireRadiant
Jerry is already there, he lives there after all. The crimson crush arrive, wait in street. Razor pimped out truck arrives with Chowder and Lancer. Lancer stays in truck, Chowder gets out. Delivery truck arrives and Tomas steps out. He may be alone, or not. You'd have to look into the cab. And GT3000 would have to establish if Dick went or not.

At this point all parties are at the meet.

Trucks very often drive themselves, and right or left hand drive is somewhat irrelevant with modern vehicles, so shotgun is kind of hard to establish.

HTH
Zaranthan
Okay, I'm retconning my old posts for continuity's sake. They don't make much sense in context. I totally missed the early posts of the "Repair Shop" ARO and Chowder showing up and getting out. My bad.

Timeline as best I figure it now:
1. Jerry sitting on stoop
2. Crimson Crush arrive with calhots
3. Jerry stands with them in middle of street
4. Pickup truck arrives (Chowder & Lancer)
5. Chowder disembarks
6. Jerry & co. are apparently too wrapped up in conversation and FizzyGlo to notice
7. Delivery truck arrives (Tomas & Richard)
8. Tomas disembarks, approaches with open hands
9. Mike relays video feed to Jerry
10. Jerry finally notices, and approaches Tomas; machine gun in hand, but presented, not pointed
11. Jerry calls out, asking Tomas's name and reason for showing up on his block

Faced with an empty truck driven by an ork and a loaded truck driven by a round-ear, Jerry's got just enough Ork-pride-prejudice to decide that Chowder's not a threat but Tomas might be. Unfair? Maybe. Dim-witted? Definitely. Dystopian? Hell yes.

Oh, and by "riding shotgun" I just meant not driving. Might not be obvious to an outside observer, but this was still America (way back in once-upon-a-time time), so the left-side seat could be assumed (even, or especially, incorrectly) to be the driver, as might the guy who hops out to do the talking. My experience with two-guys-and-a-truck moving crews is that the driver does the talking and the passenger doesn't speak English, so there's your grain of salt.
DireRadiant
Remember, you don't have to make your post in sequence of the posts. A later post can be about time periods prior to a previous post. If we really need to, we cna use timestamps to clarify this.
Zaranthan
Meh, it didn't seem fair to make other people go back and change their actions just because I wasn't paying attention. It was my mistake, so my character can be the one caught with his pants down. If there's no consequences for screwing up (remember, 90% of the characters' errors are likely to be player errors, not deliberate downplaying for drama), then we'll end up with people deciding not to blow up that passing patrol car after all, but instead to hack the pilot program and just crash it. After it turns out the explosion causes collateral damage to other players.

Minimum possible take-backs for the sake of consistent storytelling works best in my experience. Keeps the munchkinning to manageable levels. (Not throwing any accusations here, but we ARE just eight strangers on the internet. Guidelines put in place before problems crop up are much more effective than rules slapped down in response to them.)
DireRadiant
I'm at Gencon the rest of this week.
DireRadiant
Back from Gencon. Recovered... no way, that takes at least a year.

Bumping IC threads. I'm taking liberties to keep things moving, and will continue to do so. Reopened recruitment. I want to inject a couple more people and see if that contributes positively.

Pacing is going to be pretty much what we've experienced. I know the start is always that fun hot and heavy posting, but eventually it ends up with that once a week posting. This is where we lose people. Not that we've lost anyone yet. But it's always hard to tell. smile.gif

Great job everyone so far!

Your first post is your CS.

Your first post is your CS.

Please repost your submission in this thread. Helps me with tracking stuff.

On the CS you'll need to revise the Japanese fixer to a Seattle one, or we can leave it Japanese, either way works for me. You'll still end up going to Seattle. smile.gif

deek, your IC setup post is in the IC thread.
deek
My updated character sheet
Updates made:
- Contact names have been filled in.
- Fixer is now in Seattle.
- Removed Ceramic 2 mod from my revolver, purchased a license.

I'm probably a point below on BP (due to removing the Ceramic 2 mod) now, but I didn't feel like recalcing to check. I didn't prepay any lifestyle nor did I roll any starting cash. If either of those are needed, just let me know, otherwise you can just tell me. But other than that, I think its complete. If you have any concerns, I'll fix them, just let me know.

Also, I think I will NOT read the prior IC stuff, based on that opening intro. I think it will feel better if I am not tempted to use information I wouldn't have known. If that doesn't work, let me know, as I can always fit time to read the prior posts.

Thanks for bringing me aboard!

DireRadiant, I have details of Diva if you want. She is a character my wife plays on occasion when I run something at home. She was made originally for SRMissions a couple of years ago, where she and an earlier version of Bongo played one game -- Thrash the Body Electric I think. A highly charismatic ork (!) singer. Seduced/commanded the target in Body Electric into a compromising situation.
DireRadiant
pbangarth, I think it will be more mysterious to use an NPC in this scenario. Though if your wife also wants to play that could be worked in.
pbangarth
No, No, I wasn't asking that she play. She is not into online gaming at all. Just if you wanted another NPC for your stable, one who has a tenuous connection to Bongo, that's all.
DireRadiant
Deek, the next IC post for you will be the meet with Barnaby, I might not get to that for a bit. If you want to do IC posts for the intervening trip you are free to do so.

Cool, I was just going to ask how you wanted to handle that. All I need to know is when the meet is for, relative to now, and I can play around and fill the time.
DireRadiant
Deek, your introductory scenes are set in the Spring of 2070. It's open to allow for us to not get too involved with timestamps and conflicting events yet. Barnaby is your contact, so anything up till the actual disclosure of the job(s) is free for you to set up. Have fun with it.

Our fingers are crossed.
deek
Not sure if I really need to mess with rolling dice, but I did here.

First try was an F3 Improved Invisibility, 8d6 = 1 hit. I didn't surpass the OR of 3. Drain is 2S and I have 10 dice, so I bought the 2 hits.

Second try, a F4 Improved Invisibility, 8d6 = 4 hits. I beat the OR of 3 plus got 4 hits (didn't need that many, but the drain is the same, so I went with it). Drain is another 2S, so bought the 2 hits.

My assumption is the revolver is now invisible and my 4 hits are going to be used as a threshold to notice. Which should hopefully be fine to get through the physical security. Obviously, my aura shows me sustaining an F4 spell, but unless you jump in with some commentary, I'm going to board the sub-orbital and get to Seattle without a problem.

And since this is all just me playing around until I get to Barnaby, I'm assuming this is all cool.
pbangarth
I dunno, deek, it seems to me to be a big assumption that the airport security doesn't look for magically hidden stuff. But I'm no expert.

What's the payoff for getting the weapon on board? You have a pistol along with your magic. What's the penalty for being caught? A shitload of trouble from national and international authorities.

I'm just sayin'...

Yeah, I am certainly aware... My first thought was, why even fiddle with this IC. I could just as easily say I flew to SeaTac and picked up or made arrangements to get the revolver I have on my character sheet, which I do have a license for. Then I was thinking, well, I can play around with my magic and try to hide it...plus, it gives me an opportunity to role-play a little IC, which is especially appealing as I haven't seen many IC posts since I joined. Not sure if that's because everyone is waiting for something to happen (hopefully no one is waiting on me) or we just hit that lull that happens in all forum games...

The payoff for getting it onboard is simply I don't lose my chargen gear because I am relocating overseas. I suppose I could have played it out differently, but the bottom line is that it really shouldn't matter...I'm just filling some time. I could certainly re-write my IC stuff and figure out another way to have my revolver once I'm in Seattle...not a biggie one way or another...

It's the normal lull and attrition, plus the usual punishment for doing a good job at work. More work.

Deek, no worries, in these initial phasing in, the GM applies lots of Handwavium to encourage posting and fun.
