On a related note:
"Your current hardware or driver setup is not compatible with MechWarrior 4"
Anybody know what to do with this?
I looked around the web, on Mektek they had some threads that did not help.
Other sources suggest it's a driver problem . .
I am trying to install it for a buddy of mine and this keeps cropping up.
On my LAPTOP with the SAME VISTA it's running without Problem so far . .

ACTUALLY they just announced the Return of the older Models.
The Unseen are back. They got official License to use the MAcross and Dougram Designs.
That's sweet.

Lucky you! I still have
at least a dozen games in my cupboard, which I never even installed (and they are certainly not bad games).

I don't know your background in computers, but I'd start with checking the hardware requirements (the hardware may require a specific chipset), going through and updating all of your drivers, especially your video drivers, perhaps disable hardware acceleration or alter whatever the interlinking pages or whatever option that is there, and try running the game in a different mode (like WinXP).
I couldn't run GTA San Andreas on a computer way better than the minimum specs, because of some silly hardware acceleration option I had to toggle.

This totally has me firing up Megamek full of old Unseens and stuff, just to get back into the "old tech" groove. I'm in a current (rl, tabletop) campaign set in 3039 or so, that's been a blast...but just the announcement about this game has me wanting to play rompin' stompin' robots even more old school.

Not before Winter 2010, 2011 or 2012 is more probable . .

Yeah, a bit Back to the Roots stuff is allways a nice twist. Especially after the madness of the cland got released <.< . .

As far as we can tell, it's being built on the UE3(UnrealEngine3) which should make modding it easy enough that such things are not too far off actually ^^

Holler if anyone wants to try and get a MegaMek game going some time. I've yet to try multiplayer (I mostly use it to experiment with Lance formations against the computer), but I'm always in the mood for some Battletech, lately.

I'm glad they're setting it before the Clan invasion. I've always had a soft spot for level 1 play; the increase in lethality in later eras makes tactical play less meaningful, IMO.

Hope that they either got rid of problems with the MW4 stuff and vista or you have an XP-Machine still standing around . .
Hmm, wonder if the XP-Mode of Win7 can get around these Problems?

I was asking more for any ETA on the MW4 release.

I just set up an account at megamekwars, which uses megamek to fight campaign-style battles (with each player tracking their batch of 8-9 meks, earning and spending c-bills, pilots earning xp, etc). So far I've only played a few tutorial matches, but it's pretty fun. There's just a big lobby where you ask who feels like a game, etc, etc, and then you throw down.
Tech level seems to be about 3025-ish, so it might be a fun way for folks to get their "fix."

Days, maybe some weeks. MekTek literally got blindsided by this.
They were bascially told one day:
"OK, here's the deal, we want publicity, the Community knows and likes your work. Go, make a crack, get out the serial numbers, make it work, you can release it for free . . your stuff and all official upgrades included"
So, yeah, they are doing their best to get it out there, before this gets retracted.

that's a bit too over the top for me to be honest O.o
i struggle to keep up with lordprotektor right now x.x
if you wanna do a fun game with no recorded stats,
just some random units of x to y BV, come find me.
i'll open up my server.
most of the time it'S version 34.2. < = this might change from time to time
megamek.servegame.org on port 2350 < = this does not change.
i think i'll just put the server into the autostart of my windows and let it run.
well, as soon as the computer runs anyway . . too loud to let it run over night.

Stahlseele
Aug 12 2009, 02:19 PM
That's what's the main topic of discussion is right now, concerning this matter.
Nobody knows as of yet. not even the officials it seems. And there's probably not going to be any important News until after GenCon we are afraid.
But it seems one of the Models affected is, in fact the warhammer. Now what mech did we see prominently featuring in the new Mechwarrior Game Video?
Exactly. Concern regarding this matter is high.

From the CBT Boards.

the ones clearly derived from macross - Wasp, Stinger, phoenix Hawk (and their LAMs), Valkyrie, Warhammer, Rifleman, Archer, Crusader, Marauder and Longbow are banned again
the ones form Crusher Joe and dougram - Locust, Wolverine, Shadow Hawk, Griffin, Thunderbolt, BattleMaster are still OK.
The Ostrol, Ostroc and Ostscout, Nexus Raijin and Grand Crusader and all the IIcs are probably OK

It's not like we didn't know it was coming, after the Unseen/Reseen mess got shat out a few weeks ago anyhow. This is just them going through the formalities of the decision that had already been made.
I'm not too worried about it. The game was early enough in production I don't think this'll be much more than a hiccup (in terms of completing the game). It'll suck some of the flavor out, sure, but...well...like I said, I kind of expected it once the announcement was made just before Gencon, anyhow, and was able to grit my teeth and lube up appropriately.
