China Doll is going wherever the bikes and garage go. So if Slam has the garage, and reasons to smuggle stuff for money, she's there.
HeySparky
I'm confused... is 'the gang's primary hideout' one of the three locations that follows? Or is it what we decide?

And if so, I volunteer the garage to be a hideout.

We can put that 1000m of monowire to good use. smile.gif
Silo
I'd think the garage is definitly a main hang out.

Is that the same as a hide out? Dunno.
TinkerGnome
For a "hideout" I'm thinking something like a small old warehouse or the like. Somewhere that's pretty open where you could fit lots of people. Important since the gang is around 25-30 people now. [edit]The garage would fit if it's big enough.[/edit]

The other locations were not the hideout, but rather other parts of the 'hood you can start in.

Ok edited Auran update notes:
- deleted demolitions for 8 bp
- converted 8 bp into 10k nuyen
- Sold Fake Sin for 1k
- Sold Headjammer for 1k
- Sold Chameleon Suit :'( for 8k

With 20k nuyen
- Bought a limo! w00t, w00t. Now to Con myself a chaffeur for the evening.

noticed a mistake a little later... 8bp doesn't convert to 10k nuyen, it converts to 20k nuyen.

update v. 1.2 notes:
- took a refund of 4 bp
- spent 2 bp for a specialization for perception
- spent 1200 nuyen on 16 Rate3 Stimulant Patches
- spent 1100 nuyen on her door locks (girl needs security)
- spent remaining 2700 nuyen on random gear including Gas Mask, Flashlight, 5x lightstick, Survival Kit, Bio Monitor, Medkit Rate 4, 11x Medkit supplies, 2x Plasteel restraints

After doublechecking the bp, it seems i can give up 7 bp for group contacts. If someone could double check for me... I got so confused trying to fix my char.... mebbe we should label someone as our validity checker for our chars.

Also added a new possible local A-Z selection, feel free to comment/edit/delete if wanted

I would like Thyn to start in Jun's Garage.

TF starts out in the hideout, teaching korean spelling and grammer to his girlfriend Rachel Ng. For real, because, her father mentioned, that he didn´t notice any improvement lately.

Am I too late try try joining? It sounds like most of the gang parameters have already been set...my only suggestion would be to ask if anyone has seen The Warriors (and really, who hasn't?). They were a race-inclusive gang, were tough as hell, and had a pretty large number of enemies. Very inspiring film for a ganger game, IMO.

Anyway, if there's room in the gang, I'd like to join. smile.gif
Jaid
hmmm... temptation strikes...

hey TG, you got any problem with me completely redoing my character? same basic role (rigger-esque type ganger), but i'm thinking of trying out a technomancer, if that's ok (or were you counting those in the awakened category?)

just as some advance notes if you do allow it,i have the following questions:

1) can you hack a technomancer?
2) can i hook the technomancer directly to a device with high signal rating to get decent range?
3) can i buy sattellite links at chargen? (they are device rating 3, but have signal 8. availability is -, so if necessary i will just buy one after chargen sometime i guess).
4) not 100% sure on this... but how do you feel about a technomancer who uses traditional hacking methods as well as technomancer methods of doing things? i ask because, at first, it's going to be very hard to have sufficient complex forms to do much... so to cover the stuff i won't have forms for (such as, say, data bomb defusing) i was wondering if i could just use a commlink for that. if not, i guess i'll figure something else out...
5) if technomancers count as awakened, that means i do not get that single item of rating 6/avail 12... so do i get it or not?

of course, those questions only really matter if you're ok with a technomancer signing on... (we don't have any yet, to my knowledge, so i'm hoping it's ok... )

[edit] question 6 applies whether you allow the technomancer or not... how much do parts for building things cost? the only example given is for commlink customisation, where it says 1/2, but i figured that might not apply to everything. also, what is the availability for those parts? same as the equipment itself? more? less? depends on the item in question? [/edit]

[edit 2] oh, and str 1 limits your damage on close combat, but is not a problem if you rely on something with a set damage code (such as, say, a monowhip, a stun baton, the defiance ex shocker (what skill does that use for melee anyways?), etc...

also, question 7) can i skinlink to a technomancer's brain/whatever? [/edit2]

Str 1 and Close Combat doesn't mix well. wink.gif

Oh well. I don't really know the system so I have to trust what others come up with. Eh, I guess powergaming isn't really a possibility for me anyway, so even if some aspects of chargen don't work out that well I guess it's not really a problem.
Thanee
You could just move 2 points of Charisma to Strength. smile.gif

Unless you want to be highly charismatic (5 is very high for a human).

Thanks for the tip. I guess that if it dosen't violate any rules or mess up skill point values to shift from Charisma to Strength, that's what I'll go ahead and do.

Yeah, I guess my character shouldn't be very charismatic; she should be about as charismatic as a toy robot. I mean, we're talking some spastic traumatized kid here.

So CHA is now 3 and STR is now 3. Is that kosher, or is there some kind of sliding scale based on how big the numbers are?

HeySparky
All Attributes cost 10bp. Except the last point of your maximum starting rating. It costs 25bp.

So... everyone starts out with 1 in everything (modified by race) and a maximum of 6 in everything (modified by race).

I'm a human. I want to be really strong, but I want to be efficient with my bp.

I buy STR up to 5 (for a total of 40bp) and skip buying up to 6 (for a total of 65bp).

That's the only sliding scale.

Skill checks are done by rolling a number of dice equal to the base attribute + the skill.

So my STR 5 guy with Climbing 4 gets to roll 9 dice to climb a wall.

The TN for everything is 5 and if you get a 5 you score a 'hit'. Each task has a 'threshold' which is how many hits you need to get to succeed. Easy tasks would require 1 hit, and hard ones up to 4.

If you have a ton of dice you can buy hits at a rate of 1 hit per 4 dice.

Now, modifiers to rolls are handled by adding or subtracting the number of dice you get to roll to make your test.

For my climbing guy, he has climbing gear, that's +1 die to my roll. So 10 dice now. It's raining, that's bad, so the GM says it's -2 to the dice pool. So I'm down to 8. The wall has lots of handholds but it's not trivial, the GM gives the test a threshold of 2.

I could chose to buy 2 hits and climb the wall. If the threshhold had been 3 I would have been forced to roll, and cross my fingers.
Wounded Ronin
Thanks for clearing that up. I understand the rules better now.

We should decide if the Garage is the Gang's Primary Hideout now, since between the two places we have 5 people. If they are the same place, then no more people can start there. If there not the same place, then there is still room for more.

Real fast...

Skills cost 4bp per level.

Climbing 1 costs 4bp.
Climbing 2 cost 8bp. Etc.

There are skill groups which cluster related skills that you can advance all at once for a savings in bp/karma.

For instance, Climbing is a part of the Athletics skill group which also includes Running, Swimming and Gymnastics.

Raising each level of a skill group costs 10bp.

Athletics group 1 10bp
Athletics group 2 20bp

Contacts are purchased by how Connected they are and how Loyal they are to you at 1bp per level.

So my climby-guy's Personal Trainer contact L3/C3 costs 6bp.

With a connection rating of 3, he's pretty well connected in his circles and he likes me pretty well. We have a friendly working relationship.

Resources give you 5k per point (or 2,500 for this low money start).

And Qualities are basically edges and flaws with the restriction of no more than 35bp of negative (or positive?) qualities.
HeySparky
If Santiago's (Jun's) garage is going to be the gang's hideout it'll need to share a wall with a warehouse so we can get the space we need. I don't see that as a problem... TG?

Yes technically you should be able to pull this off however, with one makor drawback. (tried to pull this off too but my RL gm showed me the problem)

QUOTE
Aside from the Resonance skills that technomancers
use to handle sprites (see p. 119), technomancers use the
same skills common to hackers—Computer, Cybercombat,
Data Search, Electronic Warfare, Hacking, Hardware, and
Soft ware. Th e way technomancers use these skills, however, is
vastly diff erent from the way non-technomancers use them.
Technomancers, aft er all, exercise these skills through mental
gymnastics and an intuitive feel for the functioning of the machine
world—they don’t learn to use electronics so much as
they learn to make devices do what they want.
Th is means that the technomancer versions of these skills
are fundamentally diff erent from the standard versions. In game
terms, technomancers may never teach these skills to non-technomancers,
nor are the technomancer skill versions available
as skillsoft s. Technomancers may learn the normal versions of
these skills separately (or use normal skillsoft s), but they inevitably
fi nd the normal way of doing things to be hopelessly
clumsy and backward

p.233 of the SR4 Core book

In case it wasn't self-explanatory... you have to buy the hacking skills for technomancer skillwise, and for non-techno skill wise. But otherwise, yes you can do both.

EDIT: This post has been EDITED just now by me.

OK, let's see then. MK left me 6 points for contacts and gear.

So, in order to be merciful to whomever helps me with gear, and since my PC only needs a gun and a knife and maybe some armor, I can put 1 point into Resources for 2,500 nuyen. Unless the gun prices have dramatically changed from SR3 that should totally be enough for a big honking knife, one piece of armor, and a "heavy pistol" or crappy SMG with lots of decaf cartridges and a few spare magazines.

But, I was also meaning to get meatpuppet implants and maybe a skillwire or two. So, I'd better use another point for gear. So that's 2,500 nuyen for gear, 2,500 for meatpuppet trappings. Is that going to be enough?

That would leave me with 4 points for contacts.

So, let's see...

Crazy Euro Wars vet who trades guns and ammo for beer.

L1/C1. He mail orders most of his weapons so he's not "well" connected, and he's insane and paranoid so that he has no Loyalty. 2 points.

L1/C1. A bum who will buy underaged gangers beer. This man is the epitomie of being out for himself and having no power or contacts whatsoever. But man, beer is really key. My last 2 points.

Is this correct?
MK Ultra
Skillwirres cost 2.000 per level (max Level 4, but Availability is Lvl*4, so no more then 3 if thats your only gear above Avail. 6 or Level 1, if you need something else with high Avail. (don´t think so)).
Datajack costs 500

So Skillwires I and Datajack would be in and would cover the most basic meat-puppet equipment.
Vegas
Halo would be found in/near the garage/hangout.

I'm allowing characters pretty much indefinitely. However, if you want to start playing this month, I'd suggest you be quick about chargen wink.gif

QUOTE (Jaid)
hey TG, you got any problem with me completely redoing my character?

Feel free.

QUOTE (Jaid)
1) can you hack a technomancer?

They have firewall ratings, so yes.

QUOTE (Jaid)
2) can i hook the technomancer directly to a device with high signal rating to get decent range?

Sure, why not. Depending on the device, there might be penalties for doing so, though, since you're really routing your data through the second device.

QUOTE (Jaid)
3) can i buy sattellite links at chargen? (they are device rating 3, but have signal 8. availability is -, so if necessary i will just buy one after chargen sometime i guess).

Let's say no. That way I can taunt you with one ingame.

QUOTE (Jaid)
4) but how do you feel about a technomancer who uses traditional hacking methods as well as technomancer methods of doing things?

Someone else already pointed out why this doesn't work so well. However, note that I have a house rule that makes this slightly less of an issue. When you thread a complex form, use of that form does not suffer the -2 penalty.

QUOTE (Jaid)
5) if technomancers count as awakened, that means i do not get that single item of rating 6/avail 12... so do i get it or not?

I believe I'm allowing it. Can't remember why, but I remember saying yes to this earlier.

QUOTE (Jaid)
[edit] question 6 applies whether you allow the technomancer or not... how much do parts for building things cost? the only example given is for commlink customisation, where it says 1/2, but i figured that might not apply to everything. also, what is the availability for those parts? same as the equipment itself? more? less? depends on the item in question? [/edit]

Let's not buy parts at chargen. It'll be cleaner and neater that way. You can acquire them ingame.

QUOTE (Jaid)
[edit 2] oh, and str 1 limits your damage on close combat, but is not a problem if you rely on something with a set damage code (such as, say, a monowhip, a stun baton, the defiance ex shocker (what skill does that use for melee anyways?), etc...

Exactly. And since strength is no longer the basis for hitting in melee, it's even easier to get away in melee without a high strength stat. Though the relative benefit from a high strength on damage is such that when the troll hits people, he kills people. It's just that he no longer walks all over everyone in melee hitting.

QUOTE (Jaid)
also, question 7) can i skinlink to a technomancer's brain/whatever? [/edit2]

No. You'd have to wirelessly connect to a device that has skinlink included.

In case it wasn't self-explanatory... you have to buy the hacking skills for technomancer skillwise, and for non-techno skill wise. But otherwise, yes you can do both.

yeah, i know that. i didn't say he would be very good at both, i was just asking if he could use both.

and, since i'm posting anyways, another question:

can the technomancer use the technomancer version of, say, hardware, to build things? how about their version of software? can they use it to write normal programs? can they use it to crack the copy protection on normal programs? do they need a toolkit to use their version of software?

[edit] another question: since i can't skinlink, how about if i had trodes with a skinlink. would that effectively be the same as having a skinlink (ie, would having trodes/some other form of DNI negate the need for the wireless connection?) [/edit]

[edit2] also, it would still be nice to know in advance how much parts will cost, availability and such. it helps with planning =D also, what are your views on breaking things apart for the parts? (as a specific example, supposing i bought a doberman. it has rigger adaptation and a weapon mount on it. could i then take it apart for those two parts?

also, if i buy a weapon mount as my one item of avail 12, would the weapon i mount on it be considered an accessory for the purposes of availability? would any accessories i put into the weapon count? [/edit2]
TinkerGnome
Well, you can do both, it'll just eat up a lot of points.

As the rules stand right now, I don't see any reason to actually have a technomancer software or hardware skill.

QUOTE (Jaid)
[edit] another question: since i can't skinlink, how about if i had trodes with a skinlink. would that effectively be the same as having a skinlink (ie, would having trodes/some other form of DNI negate the need for the wireless connection?) [/edit]

I don't know why you'd bother, but sure, I guess. You can never turn off your wireless capability, so you're still vulnerable to attack.

QUOTE (Jaid)

Parts are specific to what they're from. So you could use the parts from a doberman in another doberman but not in a steel lynx.

QUOTE (Jaid)
also, if i buy a weapon mount as my one item of avail 12, would the weapon i mount on it be considered an accessory for the purposes of availability? would any accessories i put into the weapon count? [/edit2]

No. If you bought a high avail drone, however, the weapon mount would be considered to be an accessory to it.

oh yeah, well what if i wear clothing with wifi inhibiting paint, including a hat? =P would i still be vulnerable then (actually, i might seriously buy one set just for this purpose... i don't think i'd wear it all the time though. i imagine that would be hideously uncomfortable to a technomancer, even if they are getting access relayed through another wireless device.

frustrating how much is not specifically spelled out anywhere... i have other questions that i am wondering, but think they would best be asked elsewhere... so i'll ask them on the main boards =P

you are, of course, still welcome to answer (and naturally your opinion counts for more than all the rest, 'cause it's for this campaign =P )

Hey Guys, I was bored so I decided to start our Group Contacts Page. I put it up in the Allies section from the Main Page. Please feel free to spend your group contact points in there, and also, add/edit the contacts.

Ones of interest, I put a point in a drug dealer, and a crooked cop. besides the basics. Feel free to help flesh out some contacts. I suppose if we have some contacts with less than 3 points, we can consolidate those points into other ones. Alright, so let's get 'er dunn!

Hmm... I guess I was wrong then. I checked back in System Failure and what I remember being there wasn't there. So apparently you can cut your matrix connection.
Jaid
excellent... so i presume if i cut the connection, however, i am pretty much reduced to non-technomancer methods of hacking/computer stuff, though? or would using trodes negate that, and allow me to be effectively the same as if i had skinlinked everything in my PAN and only use one device for going outside of that?
WinterRat1
*sigh* I don't think Shade is going to be well liked by most of his fellow gangers. frown.gif

Oh well, that's kind of the point I suppose, since the whole concept behind him, for those who were wondering, was to try playing a comparatively normal person in a very abnormal situation.

Sure, he's got some skills that are useful and he can certainly handle himself on the streets, but in the end he was a normal average citizen who simply got caught up in things beyond him. This should be interesting. I'm really excited to see how things unfold.

BTW, great job everyone with your thoughts on each other thus far! I have to say, some of the comments had me laughing out loud.

Hopefully this weekend I'll have time to work on figuring out the wiki page and get my character sheet and background up in a much more updated and readable format. Maybe then I'll get more comments from everyone on how their characters view me. *hint, hint* wink.gif

Updated Halo's general impressions/feelings towards fellow gang members. Feel free to work with me on any of this and know I might edit/rework some of it in the near future. It's late and I'm dead tired so I make no promises that it's coherent biggrin.gif
Dranem
Ok, I haven't been following the list for a couple of days, and it looks like someone won out getting a Technomancer ahead of me. frown.gif Guess I'll have to make a hacker or can I still get my creepy Matrix girl?

My idea (seeing as there is a call for one) Technomancer Artisan. Her parents own the local Tattoo parlour where she's learning the art of tattooing herself. When not doodling or Trix surfing she can be found hanging out at the Fun Zo e and (if possible) tinkers with the machines and keeps them running. Her favorites are fantasy role-playing games and racing games. Few know her real name: many call her BronzeWyrm (for her love of medieval dragons and the large Bronze Dragon tattoed on her arm.) Others call her that freeky goth-chick for her habit of wearing dark baggy clothes accented with spikes and leathers.

I'll roll up the character later this morning when I get home and have access to my BBB. I'll make a Hacker backup incase you've closed the door on Technos.

That was a mistake, I was using a template from another character and overwriting the old data, and I flat out forgot to delete that. TG already caught it as well, and I actually caught it on my own and sent him an update before anyone mentioned it. Thanks for the catch!

Quick clarification as well, if you don't mind. I'm a newcomer?
WinterRat1
OK, I got depressed not seeing comments up about how the other gangers viewed Shade, and I reasoned it was because people might have missed the spoiler tag with all his info, so I worked on figuring out the wiki and got up his (almost completed) character sheet, background, and views of fellow gangers.

I'll polish him up this weekend and finalize the little details, storyline, his views of the others, etc.

Wounded Ronin and DireRadiant - Since your characters are the ones tied closest to mine, was there anything you wanted to work out with respects to mutual background? Specifically how they interact or perceive one another?

Well, let's see. If your character and mine were both shipped to Seattle in a crate, I think that there's potential for our characters to feel closer to one another than with the other characters. It's swell to have a gang to look out for you, but who is the person you can really share secrets with? It's the person who suffered through the same things and travelled with you.

I'd think that Toy Robot would really trust your character more. If there was a problem that she couldn't talk about with someone else about she'd probably go to your character.

EDIT:

Since the GM has urged us to speed things along I've posted my character sheet up on the Wiki.

EDIT 2:

Just found your character background on the Wiki, WinterRat. Adjusted my entries to reflect yours.
Furthermore, I decided that Toy Robot should start out at the Stuffer Shack. She is purchasing a snack, being hungry.

I think that the Fun Zo e should be the primary gang hideout. It allows the mechanically orientated characters to have a place to their own and thus brings out the character differences more.

You forgot TF, which was also in the Hideout (before Auran IIRC), but he can teach his girlriend in another place as well. Or maybe...

...put Tao-Fighter up to the Stuffer, Rach was hungry (and nerfed from her real korean lessons insted of some hugging), so they went along with Toy Robot.

BTW I expect the Gang to give TF a gang-name in time, though that will not hapen before in-game starts, I think.

@Shades
I really appreciated your character run down, when you presented it here. I did not get to your character, because I did them in alphabetical order. But you can be sure, Shades is one of the members TF likes most, though there will be some fears and reflected self-doubts, as with everyone else.

EDIT: @ Wounded Ronin
I put up some gear for you. Notice, that she has no comlink! The cheapest version would cost 250 nuyen.gif compleet with Operating System, but I thought, a good Machet has more worth to her, so geting a com woudn´t be on the top of her list. There is no conection in the bad places (i.e. the jungel) anyway wink.gif.
For the start, some smoke and flash granades would have to suffice. The detcaps have an availability of 8, so she could ony have one anyway and I think they should be quiet easy to improvise. I put the excess mony into a holdout with flechete (not eaven a full clip) and a sprayer of Pepper Punch biggrin.gif.

Finished Tao Fighters thoughts on other members.

I´ll take another look and re-edit them in time, but they are compleat and ready, so far.

@ Rokur
Would you mind, if Auran and TF had been romantically involved to some degree, somewer along the road in Vancouver? They are the same age, both elves and share some bg, but not as much, as to feel like siblings. This might have been nothing more then a first love, with no nasty detail, as they are still pretty young, or a full blown (no pun intended) sexual relationship.
In any way, this would be over since thair transfer to Seattle, though she would have no problems to confince him to warm up some old feelings, at least one night at a time (which would put him into a sever moral delemer with Rach, though).
I don´t know, how they would feel about it now, but thay might not know either (it allso depends on how intimate the relationship went).
If you dont think, thats cool, then TF simply had a crush on Auran during thair time in Vencouver, but she didn´t give into it.
BlackHat
Knives would split his time between Jun's Garage, his own tiny apartment, and the Gang's Primary Hideout.. usually looking for some action, either on the streets with his bike, defending the gang's turf, or playing some b-ball out back (he has one hell of a three-point shot).

Looking at some of the thoughts on other gang members, I'm glad to see that everyone is "getting" JJ.

This is going to be a fun story. I hope JJ doesn't die before next week...

On the Gang Hideout:

I don't think that the Fun Zo e can be out hideout since it is owned by some other guy and other people will frequent it besides the gang members.

I would think a "secret" spot off of the garage would be nice. Of course, this means that the garage will be compromised one day. Losing a garage would hurt, I imagine, so it might be better to have the hideout be a different place.

I also think that it is very likely that we hang out at the garage often. Hanging out to me is different than hiding out though.

On Turf:

There are 9 votes for WinterRat's suggestion. 9 is a majority, so I think it is time to pick a name.

On Gang Name:

I've thrown out a couple of ideas, so I am not going to do that again. Here is a poll page for it. I am not sure that I got all the names that seemed to be liked. SO, if I left one off, or a variation of one, that you liked...add it back!

Silo You have read my mind, I was about to do the same thing, but had to get something to eat first smile.gif

I added "410 Dollars", which just sprang to my mind, as I sifted through the names discussion in my mind and remembered one of the gang tags I proposed. I think it has a nice sound and is somewhat funny. I still can´t decide, which of the sugested names I like best though.

Me either.

I probably missed more names. I went back through page 17 of this thread and decided to stop looking.

I'm going to wait until later to vote in case more get added.

Oh...should we vote, take the top 2 and then vote again? This would allow people to cast out a vote and know that they'll get another shot at deciding the decided upon name.

That sounds good to me, I´d like to follow this cours. It may allso speed up the poll abit, since peaple will be less reluctant to cast thair first vote.

Ok, I haven't been following the list for a couple of days, and it looks like someone won out getting a Technomancer ahead of me.  frown.gif  Guess I'll have to make a hacker or can I still get my creepy Matrix girl?

Two technos won't kill me.

@Everyone

On a more general note, it's been a long time since I mentioned this so I thought I'd bring it up again. My intention is for this game to be more of a collaborative fiction effort than a standard game. Look at the number of players and you'll quickly realize that I'm not going to be able to write full and verbose posts for everyone if they go off on their own.

I'll still be arbitrating all the rules and running components of the overall plot including all of the opposition NPCs, of course, but I won't be handling quite as much detail as generally happens in normal games. You might, for instance, call up a buddy to ask for some help. I might give a short OOC answer which you can then patch in IC to what ever extent you want.

To make this game a success, we'll all need to work together and maintain information on the Wiki about NPCs, locations, and the like. Thus, any NPCs you create in the game (people you meet, etc.) should be included on the wiki with a general description and some RP notes. The strength of this is that you have a fair deal more control than you would in a normal game.

For those savy with linking, I'd like to use anchors to points within some pages to make life easier and make our main page more useful. I did it with Slam's entry under Gang Members.
