Full Version: Character Idea

So for the next couple of weeks our group is going to be playing different games we are mostly doing one-shots of various systems Shadowrun being one of them. My friend is going to be running the one-shot, so the character I want to run is kind of based on Jet Grind Radio, riding around on Motorised Rollerblades and using spray cans of Knock out gas. I've looked through my books, but the only thing I can find are cyber skates, I was thinking of modifying the stats on the Segway in Arsenal. I'd mostly like to keep the character more meat than machine.

So aside from my tangent of an opening, I'm basically asking, how should I stat out motorised rollerblades for a character concept.

Where do you put the motor, and how does the drivetrain work? I never played Jet Set Radio, but I'm trying to imagine motorize skates and I'm kinda drawing a blank.

Anyway, you saw the inline skates, but those aren't good enough? Alright, look up skimmer discs from Augmentation (under modular cyberlimbs), use the same stats and call 'em motorized rollerblades. The only difference is you won't be able to skim over water, but they'd otherwise work the same. Sorry it's cyberware, but .25 essence per foot ain't exactly "more machine than meat."

I'd treat them as an evolution of the inline skates from Arsenal but rather than boost your walking and running rate by 50%, I'd have them double your base walking and running rate.

Making them work is the easy part. Replace each wheel bearing with an electric motor with a VFD, then have a piece of software juggle the speeds in addition to tweaking the smartwheel shapes based on software running in each skate, commanded by your brain, via the skinlinks in each skate.

Couple of images of how the game portrays the Roller Blades. I overlooked the skimmer discs so I didn't even consider them...

On a side note: never playing JSR/JSRF I'd definitely recommend picking it up for the once over.

EDIT: Thanks also DWC, I scoured both books and overlooked both of these items.
