So we've got this Savior medkit, which uses nanotechnology.

QUOTE (Augmented, p.114)
When activated, the medkit injects a mixture of diagnostic and repair nanites into the
bloodstream, as well as the standard stimulants, coagulants, and painkillers. The integral expert system directs the nanites to rejoin damaged tissue, stop blood loss, and minimize the onset of shock. The Savior is a Rating 6 medkit and follows all the normal rules for medkits

Does this require an operator? If so, what does that medtech do? He doesn't input the "symptoms", since the nanites diagnose. You can't use it without an operator, since six dice is not enough to give you any healing (on average).

All the work is done internally, so environmental modifiers such as for poor conditions could not lower the dice pool below 6. But the nanites wouldn't recognize whether the patient was a mage.

Well, nanites don't effect magic (a mage can have as many nanotats as he wants, no essence loss). But you're right, RAW it doesn't look like a nanomedkit is better than an ordinary one (worse, if anything)

Your question is actually answered in the Quote that was provided... See the bolded Section of the quote...

Nothing more need be said... it is just a more high tech medkit, that is all...

Yup. It's a case of "the fluff is cool but has nothing to do with the mechanics."

I do remember that in the last edition the nanotech medkits were smaller (The size of a large hardcover book as opposed to a very large backpack) but I don't know that anybody ever paid attention to that.

In SR3 they also give a -1 to TN, which matters.
