Full Version: Spirit possessing a magical Focus

I seem to recall that Possession Tradition spirits cannot possess magical Foci, because the existing magic interferes, but I can't find the reference. Maybe this only applies to Vessel Preparation, but I can't find that reference either. Fail.

Can someone help me out, please?

Well, here's a quote suggesting spirits can possess Foci, from Running Wild, p. 209:

Control Focus (Paranormal)
Type: P • Action: Auto • Range: Special • Duration: Special
This power enables the spirit to activate or deactivate a focus
they are possessing at will. For instance, the spirit may surreptitiously
activate the focus, rendering it dual-natured to then use
its powers on the physical plane. Furthermore, spirits can control
the flow of mana through the possessed enchantment, temporarily
limiting the focus’s Force by any number of points up to the spirit’s
Magic rating. If it so wishes, the spirit may even lend its power to
the focus, adding half its Magic (round down) to the focus’s Force
for (Spirit’s Force) Turns per day. Spirits often use this latter ability
to bargain for Karma if their victim refuses to “cooperate”.

A Force 3 Imp possessing a Force 5 power focus can
reduce the focus’s Force to 2 (5–3). He could, however, also
choose to lower the Force only to 4 or 3. If the same Force
3 Imp would possess a magical lodge, he could lower the
Force 4 Magical Lodge to a minimum of 1 (4–3). If a
sustaining or anchoring focus is reduced in this manner,
any spell maintained is reduced in Force.

Check out Imps, originating in the Threats 2 book, then compare that to the new rules.

I have Running Wild with me, but my Threats 2 is 4000 km. away. I recall them to be pretty much the same. Is that not so? Their power to manipulate the Foci they possess is pretty unique, but as I read it, their ability to possess Foci is not.

biggrin.gif Dont know. I have Threats 2, but not Running Wild. An unfortunate gap in my collection.

As far as I know, the only rule regarding spirits and foci is an inability to bind with them, which you might have misinterpreted as meaning possess.
