London, capital of a once glorious empire, one of the worlds greatest cities

2072 has broken and rebuilt London several times

The megacorps have arrived , but they are a lot tighter under the Governments thumb, the Royal family still stand, the Tories and Labour still fight out across the hustings, and the millions of Londoners go about there daily lives

Your recruited as shadowrunners from the British Military and Intellgence services to act in a totally unofficial capacity.

The Home Office is concerned with the nature of the corporations activties, and you are to pose as a unit of shadowrunners, totally independant conducting 'Runs' to which you have immunity from prosecution (long term) , but still risking it every day

Looking character concepts at the moment, not need to be archetypes, and its a 450 BP game.

thanks

I'm... curious...

Sorta been thinking about playing a brit fomori magician of some sort...

You'd be ammused just what kind of oddballs the Brits have squirreled away in the modern equivalent of Bletchley Park.

Any more details? I'm cogitating now on possibilities...
Ol' Scratch
Damn. This game is right up my alley, but I don't know if I have the time to develop a character just yet. Can you give an outline for about how long you plan on keeping recruiting open? If it's long enough I may be throw up a concept or two for consideration, but I don't want to waste anyone's time if you want to get things rolling as soon as you can. Though if I did find the time, I'd probably go with an ork street sammy with a background you'd think was lifted out of a flick like Snatch or Two Smoking Barrels.

This looks like a nice concept.

I'd be looking at a combat medic, if I played. High ranks in the Biotech skill group and maybe some firearms.

as long as the background involved some UK military time thats fine, looking for around a week to get concepts then stats. more interested in backgrounds and stuff first

no more details atm. the basis of the campaign is there , fomori are cool sounding enough , and Bletchley is a GREAT idea btw.

I have a Mystic Adept, but not sure he'd have been recruited by the military or intel agents. Built off the 'orientalist', obviously Chaos magic tradition with lots of Islamic and Asian flavor thrown in.

or just a bully boy Ganger type if muscle is needed

A week? I think I can put something together by then. And yeah, I was assuming he was in the military for a bit at least, but his early background was criminal based. Which is what lead him to the military, in fact. The basic idea is that he may have been a Special Forces type, or at least top-end infantry. He probably got discharged (honorably or dishonorably; not sure just yet), which is exactly why they'd be looking to recruit him for this sort of work. Definitely a cigar-smoking, heavily cybered ork, though.

When I find the time in the next couple of days I'll refine the idea for you. I'm sorry it's so shoddy right now. I'm trying not to lose focus on another project I'm working on.
Generic_PC
My Medic is remarkably similar. Probably Scottish, he signed up to be a combat medic and was honourably discharged when he manifested a psychological disorder. (Probably Bi-polarity, but we'll see.)

Maybe not quite as heavily cybered though. Looking at an Ogre, I think.

Alternately, I was looking at an Indian Harumen. As a house robber in the fractured indian nations, he'd had to make a quick escape, and ended up in the much more profitable britian. We'll see where it goes from there, but I can't decide which I'd prefer playing.
tarbrush
Oooh, oooh, me me, pick me! I'm english, I live just outside London, it'd be really cool to play in London. I have no idea what I'd play yet, but I'll work something up asap.

well the second one wouldnt get through customs let alone onto a government secret ops team.

the premise is that your all british natives. or at least from the commonwealth (so maybe Canadian)

Hmm... sounds interesting. smile.gif

I like combat-capable B&E specialists (Electronics and Infiltration), and that would probably be quite fitting here (probably with SAS background, if they still exist in 2072).

I suppose the super elite units (like the 22 SAS or equivalent) still do not take women in their ranks (though maybe with advances in bio- and cybernetics, that might be different), therefore I was thinking about a female soldier that tried to get in there (but failed for obvious reasons), but ended up with "only" the reserve regiment (i.e. 23 SAS). There she has shown such high talent and dedication, that she was recruited for the Government program.

Another brit here - also just outside London. smile.gif

Sounds like a really fun game!

Got a couple of concepts rattling around.

A sneaky little techead. Surveilance, micro drones and hacking. Background would be a former muckraking journalist/PI (News of The World!) who messed with the wrong person. Ended up in a lot of trouble and got pushed into working for MI5... which he really enjoys - great toys, even better muck to rake and it's even public service. Thinking greasy, crumpled and disreputable looking.

Muscle, if it's needed. Thinking territorial SAS - bodyguarding, chaffeur, able to kill with any weapon they can pick up. Think I'd play this character as a posh 'old school tie' type - have a public school education, some random society contacts and a decent gentlemans club. Thinking the kind of guys you see arrested trying to topple small african governments. smile.gif

They both amuse me. Think the first one would be fun, but my knowledge of 4th edition hacking is a bit limited and might let me down.

FYI

SRoG

"this is a department of MI9 , a subsection of MI5 , dealing with internal national security at home from threats foreign and domestic.
Recruiting from elite ops . British Intel , UK police forces and from a lesser extent offering deals to convicted Criminals with exceptional skills.
The SRoG is tasked to investigate corporate and public activities and conduct aggressive operations to garner Intel on schemes that could harm national security interests.
SRoG team 7 operates as a 'shadow runners' group based in East London , it poses as a unit that provides services to those who can pay and whilst conducting the 'job' is also passing on relevant Intel to there handlers, and from time to time they will be targeted at those deemed to pose a threat to deal with them in the most expeditious manner"

Id totally be interested in this concept if youll have another bod.. err player smile.gif.

Im thinking about a few concepts.

1. Ex MI5 spook specializing in logistics (insides and outs of the money markets and tracking expenditures/forging or obtaining washed funds). He's mainly a face type guy but being magical hes semi decent at not getting caught when on site. This guy used to be a part of MI5 that helped track fugitives and terrorist threats. Has lots of financial contacts both black and white (anything in between as well) that owe him. Very good at obtaining the id's safe houses and goods etc that make a real team tick (and look real).

2. Ex SAS member specializing in structural engineering (read demo), decent hand with guns, but more posh than normal. This could also become a dedicated assasin (low impact kinetic engagement).

I have a few more but will wait to see how these tickle your fancy.

And of course, we don't exist; Should knowledge of our activities become known, any knowledge of us shall be disavowed. Her Magesty's Government seeks its own form of "Deniable Asset", which is understandable. Should we encounter military or law enforcement personnel in the course of our actions, are we under any sort of Rules of Engagement, and will there be any means of extracting us from incarceration should such an unhappy event occur?

Hmm. This is good. The more I looked into my character, the more I realized how it pidgeonholed me, the less I wanted to actually play it.

The monkey-man (heh.) would be an infiltrator, investigator and a close-combat-lite.

That could be your in right there. I play the logistics/face guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who knows you. Segue your entrance into the group?
Generic_PC
Potentially. Alternately, Monkeyman could have been picked up by MI6!

I dunno. I'm fuzzy on how to become part of a deniable asset in britian in 2070.

you have been asked to volunteer, given a jacket , possibly some equipment scrounged by your mates and given a flat on the council may be

there you go

*chuckles* funny thing is I have working on a British Spy/Face elf character with Secret Service background for another game, but since I end up in that games waiting list I might take a crack at this one instead, if your still looking of course.

ok

so we have some ideas now

if you PM with your final character ideals, a real life name for the chummer and a callsign, that would be fantastic

Thanks

I just gave him character name, Call name and a few lines of my character concept and it was enough for him to add me to the pool of potential players.
Xahn Borealis
Any room for one more? I'm a Brit and I'd like to do a police sniper who's also a mage that specialises in looking for targets things. Uses Detection spells, Astral Perception, and the like. Would the UK police be like to use Awakened chaps? I think I'd play him like Danny Dyer, and keep calling Mr Johnson 'Guv' grinbig.gif

Well... I was planning on doing all my roleplaying with a scottish brogue, so, if the cockney will annoy you...

Do you allow Specializations in skills taken as groups? (For instance: I want to specialize in Urban infiltration. Can I take the Stealth group and still spec.?)

no its not the scottish brogue that would annoy me, its just DANNY fecking DYER! cant stand the geezer (and basically I am from just up the road from him , about a mile ) and if he said tasty once I would have physically tracked him IRL and drekked his choomba butt...

Ol' Scratch
I think he's asking if you allow people to split Skill Groups up at character creation. It's a pretty common house rule. Using his example, he basically wants to buy the Stealth Group to, say, 3, then grab Infiltration (Urban) 3, which in turn would split the group up to its component skills. Which is what happens after character creation if you want to do the same thing, too.
Generic_PC
Pretty much. Its not really important, but it'll save me some BP if you let me split it up. And we all know, BP is the one true god in SR.

Another question: Can Gymnastics replace Dodge? Gymnastics does have a dodging as a specialization...
synthetik
go with published rules as not all play with house rules .

thanks
Generic_PC
Gymnastics actually can replace dodge for defense, but only during a Full Defense, I believe.

basicly he is trying to say if he could use Gymnastics in place of dodge when rolling defence so her can save some BP by not having to buy the dodge skill itself.
Generic_PC
Nah. It's not important. Honestly, it was more for clarification than anything else, since Ogres are rarely gymnasts.
Ol' Scratch
I believe the only time you can't use Gymnastics in place of Dodge is when using Full Defense in Melee.. but only when you're using the Dodge + Dodge + Reaction option. If you're using the Weapon Skill + Dodge + Reaction option for it, you can use Gymnastics then. So, yes, you can replace Dodge with Gymnastics for all intents and purposes. The only time it's not a good idea is if you lack a melee Weapon Skill.

Assuming my memory of said rules hold up. smile.gif
