Well, where I'm at I only really have Grizzlies and Moose that want to kill me (that and -40 degree, not counting wind, winters).

Also, the Rabid Wombat was probably my favorite card in my Magic The Gathering days.

Ahhh... The memories...
No one can stop the Spell Enhanced Rampaging Rabid Wombat.

Awesome, I knew creating a Decker over a Samurai was a good idea. He's an Ork.. but not named Bull... promise.

I.... ~may~ be playing an elven decker with a chip on his shoulder named Wraith.

Not that I've been playing the same character since the last time it was the 2050's or anything... rotfl.gif
Bull
Dude, the first character I made for this (And remade for my "Lets Play" videos) was Bull teh Ork Decker. I think EVERYONE is making an in game version of their first/favorite SR character.
FuelDrop
Tested my Face build. Elf, slowly maxing out charisma. Went a Shaman because that's the only role that really benefits directly from the insane CHA, but have managed to avoid several fights so far just by being charming smile.gif
Critias
Hotspur, Elven Combat Decker, ready to roll (and yes, it's also my first-ever SR character).

I just wish I could remember what the name of my old combat ork decker was. I was wracking my brains and.. yeah, nope. I remember his many shenananagans (maybe too many nanana's there) but I can't for the life of me remember his name.
Remnar
I'm really looking forward to some of the stuff to come out of the editor in the coming months. I'm pretty worthless for creating such things, but I am pumped to see the awesomeness that others will make.

Have to wait to get home till I ride this rodeo, could someone tell me the cyber options? Had a dwarf ganger in 2ED that struggled to live in the hardest SR environment I have ever gamed in (played with brother and neighbors several times a week, highest paid job was 3K). Got a cyber arm and thought it was the biggest purchase ever smile.gif loved that game!!!

Most of the usual suspects are in. I've seen cyberlimbs, cybereyes, datajacks, bone lacing, dermal implants, wired reflexes...
naga-nuyen
That is everything I could have wanted smile.gif thank you so much.

Vagrant, human PI. Damn, but this is fun as hell. Even deviated from my usual build and gave him a bit of decking.

My first SR character was a human rigger.
My SRR character is an elf decker (ok, with drones).

The tech level increases as you go along. I'm seeing smartguns and Alphaware on my hired help, but not quite to where I can buy it.

Yup. Snakes, spiders, drop bears, sharks, octopuses (blue-ringed, natch), jellyfish, ants, bunyups, pissed-off kangeroos...
You want to know one of the most dangerous, though? Wombats. Cute, cuddly, built like a brick on legs. Hit one of those at high speeds and I guarantee you that your car is coming off the worst for the exchange.
Then it'll get up, maul you and wander away. Also, square poop. not even kidding.

EDIT: hence the term 'Combat Wombat'

Friend of mine hit a wombat in his car. Car was a write-off. Wombat walked away. It was hurt, but we don't know whether it died. Just being able to walk away is darn scary, IMO.

If wombats were carnivores we wouldn't be able to live in this country.

I've been told that Aboriginal tribes used to punish tribal members for especially bad crimes by finding a wombat hole with the owner in residence, poking the wombat with a couple of long sharp sticks, then forcing the offender down the hole headfirst.

Also, farmers need to know where wombat trails are, and make sure they don't put a fence post in the way. The problem is this takes down adjacent fence posts too - they get dragged down by the wires. (you can't put electric fence wires that close to the ground - the grass will short them out).

Back on topic: Game went live in the middle of the night for me. I installed before I went to work, but I have commitments for some of tonight (Friday) all day Saturday, most of Sunday, and Monday night. Great to hear they've captured the setting so well. I have a meeting last thing today, so I can't even go home early. sarcastic.gif

Had the game all afternoon. Steam crashes on me every fifteen minutes. This game desperately needs a non-Steam variant for those of us who didn't back the kickstarter, or it needs a Quick Save. If I go through the opening combat again, I'm probably going to give up on the game entirely.

Played all afternoon in Steam, online.

No crashes.

So far I've gotten up to the point where you do a lot of stuff then kill a guy who very much had it coming, all thanks to Stahl, who gifted me a copy, probably because I've gifted the world with a lot of text written on the topic of ponies. (Thanks, Stahl. The power of friendship FTW!)

It's... More fun/accessible than I had feared it would be, but... Some things don't make sense. Well, okay, Wired Reflexes not adding a permanent +1 AP is what don't make sense honestly. Largely that. The inability to mod weapons and armor and drones is disappointing. I'm playing an Elf Combat Hacker-Rigger, but it's terribly disappointing that my drones only seem to carry the equivalent of a bolt-action rifle. Not being able to trick out my gun with five nines of cool stuff is also a drag.

Still, though, I looked up and the entire evening was gone. So they did something right.

[e]Also, I was kind of disappointed you couldn't tap people who have a personal stake in avenging someone to go and get their vengeance personally at the point of a gun. It was kind of a shame to have to hire some random 'Runner to go and do the dirty work when I'd think that someone whose brother was killed and someone else whose friend was murdered would be interested in going and getting some payback personally.

Giant awakened wombats. Make it happen, people.

Am about 1/2 done downloading the game; have been waiting for this!
Cynewulf
I am up to the cemetary at the moment, and so far I love it. The writing is superb and the combat engaging.

I'm a bit annoyed that Wired Reflexes doesn't seem to give me any more actions than I already had though... and I can't remove it.
tasti man LH
Am up to the first "official" run (aka the part where you hire other runners)

So far it's awesome. While, again, no manual save, the game at least stores all of your previous auto-saves, so you aren't COMPLETELY butt-fucked if you decide you want to go back and do a mission differently then how you previously did.

And echoing Cynewulf, the writing thus far is excellent. Shame there's no voice acting, since there's a lot of great material to work with here.

Anyone else stumble across a bug where they can't buy cyberware?

I just met a certain elf.

It's not a bug (okay, it presents as a bug since the + doesn't work correctly, but it's workable), it's just awkward. You have to select the slot, then select the item, then click the slot again.

In addition, none of the special abilities I've bought for my pistol show up as attack options save aimed shot, but I've got the pistols skill up to 7.

I have a problem with some of the assault rifle skills not working properly either (double tap exists for it and pistols but seems to do nothing?)

Also, really annoyingly, triggering the wired reflexes dodge makes you dodge the next effect that occurs on yourself. Including reloading. And getting healed. And everything else that is not an attack.
Umidori
So I'm enjoying SRR immensely thus far.

For my first character, I went with a Troll with a Pink Mohawk, name of "Whop". Basically been maxing out Quickness, Body, and Shotguns. Good golly, but the shotguns are powerful! Just picked up the Remington 990 and used it to clear an entire chapter entirely by myself where I was supposed to hire help. Took out a boss and everything.

Been tempted to pick up some Cyberware, but I haven't felt the need, and I'm waiting for propely high grade stuff to be available - although I'm not entirely sure it will be before I beat the game. Ah, well.

~Umi
quentra
So, I beat it. It was awesome. Now I get to wait until someone makes modules of the old adventure modules...
Umidori
There's already an Alpha version of a remake of the SNES game. I expect after a couple months, we'll have some truly epic stuff.

~Umi
CanRay
The "Special Skill" in the game that I got as a Backer is making me laugh my hoop off!
Critias
Hotspur, Elven Decker, is sporting a datajack, basic optics (+3 accuracy), and -- for no real reason but that he ended up with an arm, IC -- got a basic cyberarm installed. All it does is give a HP bonus, but I figure I can upgrade it later, and in the meantime it helps my Combat Decker be a little more Combat-y.
Stahlseele
I made Van.
Due to how the "Char-Gen" works, he sadly ain't very effective at what he is supposed to be good at <.<
SCARed
care to explain a little more? I know he is a troll (SR-Nexus ...) and close combat-char, but why does he not meet your expectations? is close combat in general not worth the while? or is the troll handicapped?
Stahlseele
CC isn't worth it.
The CC Weapons suck.
You can't get the Attributes up in CharGen and it's too expensive in game.
No attribute boosting ware. not much money for ware to begin with.
And as of right now i think i found exactly 2 situations where the enemy was NOT capable of ranged combat.
Bull
Yeah, melee kind of blows. But to be fair, it's usually like that in Shadowrun anyway. the proverbial "you brought a knife to a gunfight" scenario.
Stahlseele

it's a completely viable tactic under SR 1-3 maybe even 4, not sure there.
the most hillariously broken build you could come up with in SR3 was Body 16, STR16, 8 points of Armor and a Dikote coated Pole-Arm.
STR+4D Damage with 3 Reach and not much that could hurt you at all.
Bull
Yeah, but as every cheese monkey I ever played with found out... you still gotta get in close. And even a heavy pistol at range beats a pole arm any day. smile.gif Almost everyone who actually stuck with a melee character did so because it was a concept character and because they were roleplaying that concept, not because it was truly viable. (Though being a good GM, I always made sure to give them ways to shine in combat, because we're all tehre to have fun. If I played it realistically and played the enemy smart? Most would have been dead in a week smile.gif)

that said, yeah. Melee is seriously underpowered in this. There just aren't any good Melee weapons. their damage ranges suck. But, they can actually move and attack as a single AP, so that's at least something, I guess.
Blade
I've had to switch to melee a few times to finish off an enemy after running out of ammo. Though now that I can have two shotguns, it's not happening as often as it used to.
Stahlseele
how do you run out of ammo? O.o
you need to spend one AP to reload, but ammo is infinite o.O
Blade
Yes, I meant having to reload.
binarywraith
I see a lot of bitching on the Steam forums, and I understand why.

This game is, at heart, an interactive Shadowrun novel with some tactical fighting portions....

... and I love it even more for that. biggrin.gif
Summerstorm
Hm, well now that i have played a few hours tonight... started with my Troll Ki-Adept "Summerstorm" -wanted be good at that before getting to summoning, but had to switch over to "Leadstorm" a hard-boiled Elven (Yes a hardboiled elf) Detective-Gunslinger because i didn't like that you had to "cast" Ki-powers.

I would have prefered to have them weaker but always on, and maybe event get slots like the cyberware. (Which is another thing i don't like... why can my "body" take only one implant? Weird...

Rest of the game is great. (I love it when the dialogues also have a description of the manners, reactions of the partner). Story so far is good. Even though i am sure i already did this somewhere somewhen *g*. Maybe the story is just so totally Shadowrun it just feels so familiar.

Oh and P.S. Why does a Cyber-leg cost 2 Essence for each leg?
What is the backers "Special Skill"? I have unlocked it, never saw it...
Lionhearted
What I've seen of the game brought a tear to my eye *sniff* You did good...
and oh, Tom... My condolences

Yeah, I'm about 4 hours in and feel pretty much the same.

My biggest gripe is not being able to save when I want to. I mean, I can understand no saving in combat, but if I'm just wandering around the bar, buying stuff, turning in missions, and spending karma, I should be able to save all of that without having to move on to the next section of the story before I'm ready.
