Full Version: Lucy Lawless is better than Nadja Davier

I'm watching this new show called Spartacus: Blood and Sand. It's produced by Sam Raimi, the same fellow responsible for Xena: Warrior Princess, and Lucy Lawless is among it's stars.

Sparticus lacks the camp of Xena, but it makes for this with extreme brutality and gallons of blood on one had and gratuitous sex and nudity on the other.

Sparticus presents us a view of the Roman Empire from the perspective of the slave, Spartacus; the moderate wealthy lanista, Lentulus Batiatus; and his wife Lucretia. It's also a view of a Roman Empire where casual lesbian sex with slavegirls is just something every moderately wealthy woman does, often.

It isn't high art, certainly, but it doesn't pretend to be. It is pure pulp escapism full of manly men killing each other and womanly women fingering each other.

Between the brutal combat, gallons upon gallons of blood, the full frontal nudity (both male and female) and Lucy Lawless getting pleasured by slavegirls, it has something for everyone and I very much recomend it.

I wholeheartedly support full frontal nudity by Lucy Lawless. Is she a brunette again like she was in Xena, or did she stick with the blonde from Battlestar Galactica?

She's a redhead this time.

Even better! grinbig.gif

Can I watch it online somewhere?

Apparently they are going merkin rather than clean-cut to get the rug to match the drapes. At least that's what Lucy has said on the promotional interview circuit. I haven't seen the show yet.

If the first season is out on DVD/BD by Christmas it'll definitely be under the tree for the wife.

I've been watching it through Netflix.
fistandantilus4.0
Yeah, Netflix has it on Instant Play. The only way I ever find a second to watch it. 'Course so far I've only made it to episode 2, but I've already seen everything hyz is talking about so ... good stuff! biggrin.gif
nezumi
I started watching it, when I have time. My wife has apparently almost finished the series though nyahnyah.gif I think she's just watching it for the combat, though.

Or... maybe there's something... alternative... you don't know about your wife. wink.gif

Now I just need to find a cute gamer chick to test this theory with. Any volunteers?

My dear husband forgets I have an account at Dumpshock. And I'm pretty sure he knows about... *all* of my interests. wink.gif

Lucy Lawless has gotten to be too old for my tastes, but some of those slave girls are pretty easy on the eyes.

But for the record, you guys are dorks comparing a fictional elf to a real live woman (albeit in an acting role).

Hey nezumi ... my wife has more posts than your wife. wink.gif

Now, now... comparing "post" sizes in public is just rude. And for what its worth, Lucy Lawless is HOT as a redhead. I definitely have a girl-crush. love.gif

I agree with you that 'real-live' trumps fictional any day. For a similar reason, I disagree with the age thing. Older women ... know stuff... that younger ones haven't even imagined yet.

As they say, 29 with experience. wink.gif

Yes, and that means I spend less time posting and more time watching all of Spartacus B&S, & doing other things, right?

I don't know if I'd want a woman with SO much experience.....

I'm in my lithe 20s and I bet I know/can do everything LL can do wink.gif

But back on topic, the power games in the show are a little weak in terms of strategy, but the Dominus/Domina are so fun and evil and lovable.

Even if I felt that way, which I don't because from the still shots (haven't caught the show itself yet) she's never looked better on the screen IMO, there is no way I'd post that. She's the same age as my wife. wink.gif

P.S. I'm not even one for redheads. She's just totally rocking her late 30's.

If a way to test that bet comes up I for one feel there should be extensive video documentation made available for the purposes of peer review. wink.gif

It's time to cue "Lecher Bitch" because that references the Vampire CRPG.

Did anyone see the Season 1 finale? Makes me wonder if and how a Season 2 is going to take shape.
nezumi
I watched the whole thing with my hands over my mouth. Holy carp...

I think Spartacus is going to set up Doctore and Crixus as his two generals, roam through northern Italy for a bit, then head south, pillaging and burning.

edit: spoilers
fistandantilus4.0
Great now I've got to devote some more time to netflix. I'll let you know when I catch up.

And hey, that's what spoiler tags are for. wink.gif
Ol' Scratch
Hell yeah I saw the finale. That was, in my opinion, one of the COOLEST season finales of all time. I always liked Crixus, but he moved up to AwesomeSauce™ status with the finale.

I really hope Andy Whitfield recovers quickly enough from his non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (one of the most treatable forms of cancer out there, so it's very promising) so that they can start working on the new season in time.

Considering that they're kinda-sorta following the real world events, that's kind of a given. At least the bit about Crixus and Oenomaus (Doctore is his title/alias). It'll be interesting to see how they introduce Castus, another one of his generals, too.
nezumi
Word is, they'll be working on a prequel until he's better, which would be pretty cool. I like Spartacus, but there are a lot of other very cool characters that don't get quite enough face time.
Ol' Scratch
I could see that. Crixus, Oenomaus, and even Ashur could have some pretty awesome stories prior to the start of the series. I'm not sure if I care much about anyone else. Maybe the Legatus.
fistandantilus4.0
Last episode I watched, Crixus was recovering, and dude had gotten chucked off the cliff.
Ol' Scratch
This is one of those series that starts off kinda meh but watchable, then slowly becomes kinda interesting, then intriguing, then... omfg!!! Which, now that I think about it, is pretty damn rare for a single short season. smile.gif
