My apologies, I wasn't aware that the Port of Long Beach was seperate from the Port of LA. Bump the LA area numbers by 80 million up to 250 million, as the PoLB is in LA county.
Oh, wait... that still leaves the Seattle area as number 2.
If you want to totally discard the California Free State as being a free state because Seattle being an important UCAS port boggles your brain, feel free. While you're at it, explain to me why the loss of the entirety of the South seemed to go over without much of a reaction, either.

And Alaska for that matter.

The USA. The combined ports of New Orleans and South Louisiana put out 280 million tons of cargo a year, surpassing even LA/LB. And yet, you don't see the UCAS saying "Uh, hey, guys, how about leaving us a little bit of land just down here..."

MYth number one. THat Seattle is a city big enough for the US to let either Los Angels, or the San Fran Bay area go to maintain. Myth number two Seattle is a port big enough to draw major investments from international corps over LA or SF. Seattle is I recall either the forth or fifth largest port that US has on the pacsific. THe other three or four basicly being in either LA or SF. Note that NEw York get less shipments that LA....
So the biggest myth of shadowrun Seattle is Seattle is a city that matters. |
Well... Duh.

They didn't let California go. They kicked California out. Apparently politicians in SR are even dumber than RL politicos.

Seems as if the politicians who wanted to remain hold of California had been in the minority.
He, and where's your opinion about the USA vs. California?

I think Dave Barry may have written about this in one of his books.
IIRC the questions was whether California should be allowed to join the Union as a State, or declared a whole other planet.

Dave Berry is a "comedian" so he's expected to engage in half-witted hyperbole. In reality, California is a microcosm of the rest of the United States.
So, in SR? My opinion is that all of the politicians involved in the USA vs Cal debate should have been shot into outer space without space suits. California though either hubris or incompetence tried to provoke a response from the rest of the US during a precarious time to screw with Washington, and the US made the rather unfortunately heavy-handed decision to call their bluff. From there, we all know what happened to California. It never helped that while NAGNA didn't make CFS a complete mess, the authors of the CFS sourcebook--who could not have been more than out-of-state UCLA students who bought into every bullshit stereotype and did a half-assed job of research and logical thinking--were the ones who really made it a horrible setting. It was a horrible book, and it just furthered the continued assraping of California in Shadowrun.
