Paul
It's my first name.
Kanada Ten
I've considered changing mine just to have something interesting to say.
kevyn668
1) I look like Kevin Bacon.

2) Sam Silver's button from DNA/DOA made me laugh my ass off.

KillaJ
Back when I was in the army our company XO was wandering around the motor pool harassing everyone whose tank was deadlined. Rather than feed him some line of bullshit for a question he already knew the answer to I decided to spice things up a bit and answered him in the form of an impromptu rap. apparently it was funny enough to warrant him christening me with the "gang name" of KillaJ (my last name begins with the letter J). It stuck the way that only stupid nicknames can and I have used it for most everything that requires a username ever since.
mattness pl
Matti Nykenen. (Finnish?) Ski jumper. I loved that sport (but I hate it since V-style is accepted ).
12 years ago, when I created my first RPG character and I thought about the name I chose MATT (Matti sonds too childish in polish). That's it
torzzzzz
rotfl.gif

My handle Torz came form the fact that i was never to be called vicky as my mum hated it but victoria was to long..... so hence torz but i like my latest character Attillius but i don't want it as my handle as she my die!

Endgame50
It's just a handle I use for most forums I post on.

Endgame--it has a meaning all it's own, and I happen to be a big fan of Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.

The 50 at the end has no meaning, it's just an appended number that lets me use a consistent handle most of the time without having to change it if some other person nabbed it first.
Ecclesiastes
I used to go be Grey for years and years, but then God and I made pease with each other and I changed it since then.

JudgeIto78
My real name is Lance.

I was in High School when the OJ trial was going on.

Remember the judge's name?

Nuff said

The 78 is just there cause someone else keeps taking my nickname on forums!

I WILL FIND YOU SOMEDAY!!!! I SWEAR IT!!!!

akarenti
"Akarenti" is the title given to the heads of regional intellegence of the Theran Empire in Earthdawn (which I started playing seven years ago when I was like 13). It's nice, as it's obscure enough that other people don't claim it (I use it everywhere on the net, and I've never been told it was taken), but occasionnally, someone will recognize it (esp. in places like this). Started using it on the old KEEP boards (which I believe dissappeared while I wasn't looking). I'm sure someone here besides me (Ancient History?) remembers the KEEP boards.

Occassionally, I use Akarenti Gendel, after the Akarenti of Triumph, because, unlike the Akarenti of Vivane, I can spell his name without looking it up...
Dog
Easy to type, and it sounds like my real name, and it kinda fits my personality.
Req
Actually Req is short for Requiem, the name of my second serious SR character. The first being Dirge. You can tell I fancy myself a singer in real life. smile.gif

Dirge just seemed like a good, mournful goth-elven-street-sam kinda name. Requiem, though, came from the fact that I was singing Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem at the time, and lovin' it - one of the greatest pieces of classical music ever written. Since then it's also come to represent Verdi's Requiem, which I've performed since then (in Seattle's Benaroya Hall!!!!!) which is in my opinion even more awesome.

Incidentally, since I came up with the name I've gone from being a bass to being a high tenor (voice lessons for the win!) and have therefore had the opportunity to sing the Brahms in two very, very different octaves. smile.gif
Apathy
Apathy's not just a name, it's a way of life!

...or not... whatever... sleepy.gif
Ancient History
I was gonna take Moxie, but someone else had it first. frown.gif

*grin* Would we then have the Moxie Files?
Critias
Crit here's a fairly interesting Greek Philosopher (find me a boring one), but I primarily snatched it from a mercenary group's intelligence officer (and my favorite character in the series), in the Thieves' World books.
Johnson
Besides being a GM. Runner always look at the Johnson's for revenue. I found this a appropiate Nick.

Matti Nyk[ä]nen.

You named yourself after a retarded criminal and part-time stripper? The guy who's been voted The Most Pointless Finnish Celebrity twice? The guy who's beaten up or been beaten up by his wife (with whom he's "permanently broken up" on at least 19 occasions) dozens of times, and is currently doing time for attempted manslaughter?
Jrayjoker
My name...well, it's my initial + last name + joker. I've always considered myself a bit of a clown.
Wireknight
I combined "Wire" and "Knight". I think it may have also been among my first Shadowrun characters, an endeavor into decking. I found a reference to such a character in my archives, and it did seem a bit familiar, so perhaps that is the true origin.

Sounds like a shadowrunner to me...
Neon Tiger
One of the Mavericks(end of level bosses) in the Megaman X game series. Also a female street samurai character with Kid Stealth legs and a balance tail.

[Nevermind.]
Mortax
Mortax is the name of one of the main char. in a screenplay I've been working on on and off for a while now. I've also used him as an rpg char from time to time when it somewhat fit the story. smile.gif With mods to his background, of course. Can't have a 2000 year old vamp walking around in every game. smile.gif My first shadowrun char. wasn't fun to play, after a while. Mage vampires get too muchkined, even when you try not to. smile.gif
ThreeGee
In the original SR1 rules bike gangs were sometimes called go-go gangs, go gangs is a contraction of this. Hence my first character, ThreeGee.
Backgammon
Well, I wasn't going to reveal the origins of my name cause I'm a mysterious kinda guy, but since I'm SOOOOO bored at work:

Waaaay back when, when I was still a teenager in high school, I stumbled upon a an previous and ancient incarnation of these here forums. Now, needing a cool nickname, I thought "Blackjack" was pretty cool. But there was already a famous Shadowrun community "Blackjack", so that wouldn't do. Well, "Backgammon" was also a game and it sounded kinda like Blackjack, so I went for it. Then in one of my early posts, someone said he liked my name, so that inflated my teenage ego and made me stick with it. I like the work though, there's something esthetically pleasing about it.

It was also my ICQ name when that piece of software was still relevant, and now even with the easy name changing power of MSN Messenger I still keep Backgammon up. Also use it in online games like Battlefield and the likes.

And I am Ain Soph Aur because I pay for the crack cocaine that is these forums.
Mister Juan
Well, since I just signed up for the DS forums (been reading every day for a couple of months), I might as well explain the name so to "present" myself.

The Mister part is simply from watching Reservoir Dogs too many times with my friends... We simply started adressing to each other as "Mister" and our name.

The Juan part (I'm not spanish or mexican or anything... I don't even speak a single word of spanish) came during a game of what is called, where I'm from, the 25cents. Basically, a good ol' drinking game where you have to throw a quarter around. And so, at some point (in that game) you can make up rules... and someone decided it would be funny if we only could speak in spanish. And so, Juan became my name.

Then, it just stuck.

Makes for a great pick up: "Good afternoon, I'm Mister Juan... you know, the Don?"

It's odd how chicks go for lines like that...

At a festival last year three of us decided we needed nicknames with a common theme - I ended up with "King Biscuit" and somehow managed to "entice"* a (very) nice young lady back to my tent after introducing myself with that moniker...

(BTW the others were Biscuit Boy and Sister Biscuit. No drugs involved**...)

(*A completely mutual thing - no real enticement involved)
(** Well, no more than usual festival consumption)
Fortune
I gather that is not in relation to the long-time musical icon Richard Newell, also known as King Biscuit Boy.
Crimson Jack
Mine came from an illustration that I did as one of the pieces for entrance into the art school that I eventually attended. It involved a demon-possessed biplane aviator (Crimson Skies-ish), who was licked in fiery crimson flame and piloted the craft from atop the wings via leashes. I gave him the name Crimson Jack and always liked the sound of it.
Sahandrian
Sahandrian was my first SR character, a street sam turned face turned decker. I got the name from D&D - the sword of Corellon Larethian, god of elves (the character is an elf). Although, I think I'd have used something different had I seen the picture of Larethian beforehand...

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/dd_galle...orellon_p63.jpg

I mean, I was expecting Elrond or something, not that...
Sandoval Smith
Heh, you should've paid a bit more attention to the description which described him as 'androgenously beautiful.'

Sandoval Smith was my first PnP Shadowrun character. His original name was Sandoval Fernández Carreira, and he grew up in Tenochtitlan, where his father was a notorius, semi-sociopathic chop shop surgeon, who one day screwed up hard by slicing up an Aztech operative. His mother took him, and his siblings, and bolted for Seattle before the hammer came down. When she was establishing a new identity, she knew that Jandola de Hoya Fernández would stick out in directory listings like a Great Dragon at a cow convention, but J. Smith on the other hand...

And that's how Sandoval got his Smith.

Hey, I only had the core trio at the time. PHB says nothing about androgyny OR beauty.

I'm up to 25 books now, so I know better...

My SR book count is only 10, but I only have more d20 material because a guy I knew sold me his entire library at about $8 a book.
Sandoval Smith
I could've sworn that fact got mentioned in the brief blurb for him in the deities section of the PHB. Might be wrong though.
Aes
The tried and true method of hitting the keyboard once with 3-4 fingers, repeat until something pronouncable turns up.
Captain Trips
The slang name for the flu virus that gets loose in "The Stand" by Stehen King. I always thought that was a cool name.
Slait
I have a feeling in hindsight I probably ripped it off of a mouse/rat character in the shining force games for the sega genesis. It was also the name of my dark elf character in what you guys call that other game. I used to ffrp on MIRC and used the nick, started chatting for real, and it stuck. Now I use it for basically anything that needs a screen name.
The Canterbury Tail
I live in Canterbury, Kent, England. The Canterbury Tail is a play on The Canterbury Tales, but made a little more Shadowruny. I figured, maybe a biosculpt of some sort, or is it a SURGE expression.
Arz
I have no idea anymore, but I still have a fondness for my first SR character. I just remember my GM turning to me and asking for my character sheet once.

"I kinda wondered why your character wasn't able to keep up with everyone else. Didn't anyone mention we are using the more metahumans rule?"

"Ah, nope. But if I do that I'll lose a point from my karma pool!"
Crimson Jack

That was a pretty fun game. Decent cinemas as I remember (for the Genesis).
Akai Sokata
My post name is my latest character's name. figureing he was a deck head I was looking around at electronics in my house. well I was watching a anime and the lead male's name was akai...then I looked down at the vcr and saw that it was made by akai. the funny thing is akai the shadowrunner has a chip jack and a data jack. well as a favor to a mob boss, Akai jacked into his trid and sloted the dons whole movie collection for him to watch, so he wouldn't have to buy a new chip player(don loves old flaties)....that was six mouths game time ago, and akai can still recite the whole god father trilogy

Were you by any chance watching Kite?

MidnightGhost
The two names my current character goes by. Midnight - a shadowrunner and ghost - a yak hitman that no one has seen in person(while performing a hit) and lived.

Before the new forum I was MidnightBlack - Same character but I was referring to him being a were-panther.
