So last year's meet and greet was a lot of fun (even though we ended up split apart at the beginning). So lets plan for this year!

Anyone have any suggestions besides Claddagh's? Personally I liked the atmosphere and the food so I'm okay with going back there.
Quince
Quince thinks there is something about Claddagh that lends itself to Shadowrun.
He plans on being there.

Now, if only they served more Soy or Krill based options....
Bull
I'm down for that. We've done it the last couple years, so it makes a good meet & greet locale. smile.gif
DWC
I've been an Alcatraz fan for years, but really, I'll go anywhere with a bar.
nylanfs
Claddagh's is nice because since it's more than two blocks away you don't get the rush of gamers. smile.gif
tweak
Where is this place?
Bull
Gen Con, or Claddagh?

Gen Con in in Indianapolis, as is Claddagh. Here's a map.

I intend to work enough breathing room into my travel plans to actually make it in time for this, and after 10 hours on the road I'll likely be ready for a drink.

Whiskey Flights
Caine Hazen
I am so trying to save up hours so I can partake in whiskey flights again!!!
Nimbex
Mmmm... whisky.
Bull
I really need to get more pictures this year, and actually get people to remember folks names and handles. Because I'm bad by nature, and worse once I've had a few drinks smile.gif

Have room for one to show up?

Also, another question can anybody recommend a hotel that is closer to the convention center, say within a couple of blocks?

I can recommend several. However, this "late" in the registration process, finding rooms is next to impossible. The Convention has most of the rooms blocked off for folks who register through them, and they sell out fast. As in, within 30 minutes of the reg going live, everything in a 5 block radius tends to be booked solid. :/

That said, the Embassy is nice, has only suites for a reasonable rate, and offers up a good breakfast buffet in the morning, has a free "open bar" for an hour or two in the evening, and lots of seating. It's only a 2-3 block walk, and you can even make the trip going through walkways only (though beware the evil that is Cinnabon, for you have to pass by it often smile.gif)

THe Westin has really nice as well, and directly across from the convention center. If I had my choice of hotels, that would probably be it, because the proximity is outstanding.

I've also stayed at the Marriot (Nice and also directly across from the con center), the Omni and the Crowne Plaza (Both nice, and only a short hike).

Good luck!

Thanks, I will check them out and see what is available. grinbig.gif

Just as a note... The map I linked earlier in the thread has most of the hotels listed on it. However, there were a couple new ones being worked on last year, so they're not on this map, as it's a couple years old.

This map does have a black arrow on it pointing toward the Claddagh though. That's the important bit. And yeah, we always have room. They don't do reservations, so we usually just take over large sections of it smile.gif

I've had reasonably good luck with Gencon's waiting list, although I generally get on it the day it opens. THree years running I've hopped on their system as it opened only to have something screw up during the reservation process and have to start fully or partially over only to find all the double bed rooms sold out, every time I've been able to get a room through the wait list process. Honestly if it wern't for the fact i'm traveling with a large party with wildly divergant interests and schedules i'd likely stay down town and driv ein every morning. Cheaper almost by half even after you factor in parking, but it's hard to beat the convenience of on site.
Westiex
Just out of curiousity as I'll be making it to Gencon Indy this year, what time do you normally meet up?
Lindt
Im making an attempt to make GenCon this year. First time as a non-Shadowrun Gm. First time as a non-GM actually. Freekin normals...

Id love to meet up with all the cool kids. Like Bull. Well, Bull sans vodka. Ahh memories.

Hey now, I didn't do vodka. I was doing 6-8 ounce shots of Bacardi 151 and/or Bushmills. Flak and Twin-Steve were the ones abusing the Stohli. smile.gif

Besides, I can't get drunk at a bar. It's too expensive smile.gif

Any meetups in NC?
galvatron42
I would be intrested in a meet and greet. What day/time do you usually have it?
Kai
I'll be there this year, maybe drag a Jackal along ;7

Shecky
Depending on which evening this is, I would be game for it.
Geminon
I will try to be there too!
ZenDead
I will be there myself.
nylanfs
The last couple of years it has been on Wed night, before the Convention "officially" starts.
Bull
It'll be the same again. That's really the only night that the majority of us will be "free".

Bull
dabz
mmmmm sounds interesting for this one huh...may i in?
Sally
Count me in!
Redjack
Rock and roll. We should just take over the back half of the pub.
john_doe
Count me in. Had a great time last year. And i don't know about anyone else, but that bar was A-OK in my book. Not too many places put Sam Adams on special smile.gif I remember taking full advantage of that for sure.

Hey Bull... any chance there will be another one of those late-night Shadowrun Card game sessions again?
Shecky
Well, depending on What time it is, I might make it on Wed Night. I'll be getting down there sometime around 10 or 11 pm.
Bladerunner
My team and I wont be around Wednesday unfortunately. I hope to see some of you around some of the tables and other venues when we are there.
LurkerOutThere
So what time are we looking to get together? Also I know some folks are gathering at the Ram or is that earlier in the day.

Assuming a start time of about 6PM i'll need to get on the road around 6AM with the rest of our crew accounting for both stops and the time change.

Tiger Eyes
BishopMcQ and I will be there! smile.gif
Bull
@Tiger:: Woot! Drinkage! smile.gif

@Lurker: We generally shoot for 8 PM till DrunkLate. That way folks who get in late can still sometimes make it, folks with dinner plans can come in after, etc. But, if you want dinner, get there a bit early, or just wait and order when you arrive. THey have pretty decent food.

Bull
DireRadiant
I think we'll end up there after the GM briefings on Wednesday evening.
LurkerOutThere
Hmmm i had forgotten about that, mostly as this is my first year out I'm not up on the proceedures. I guess i'll wait for my email from the Legendary Chuck.
CollateralDynamo
Just secured the time off for the big GC. Will definitely be at the Meet & Greet.
AStarshipforAnts
Me and a couple others may or may not show up, depending on how exhausted everyone is from the drive.

I may just show up for an hour or so on my own.
DireRadiant
It looks like from the schedule most of the SR events are in the Embassy Suites Consulate room. So that's where most of us can be found at the rest of the time.
Credstick
How do I become a part of this meet and great?

This is my first time to GenCon and I would like to play Shadowrun the whole time.

AStarshipforAnts
I'm pretty sure you just show up.

Or did no one tell me about the secret handshake, either?
DireRadiant
Street View

Most people will be there by 8 PM wednesday evening.
AStarshipforAnts
And I assume we just look for the big group of people talking about Shadowrun?
Doc Chase
ASFA, go pick up my badges on Wednesday. nyahnyah.gif
AStarshipforAnts
Aaaaaaaa. If they'll let me, I will.

Edit: No luck, dude-bro. You'll have to wait in the line after all.
Bull
Show up, look for the big crowd of people and the ork with the short mohawk (Sadly, my hair won;t have grown out enough to do a decent mohawk this year frown.gif

I'll also give thema heads up at the door if I can, so asking for the Shadowrun gathering or "Bull's group" may work as well.

Someone should bring "Hello My Name Is" name tags this year, so that it's easier to remember who is who. Plus when I take pics, it'll be more obvious smile.gif

Strip of bright orange shag carpet glued on will work too.
