A mystic adept who is being assensed uses his whole magic rating, right? But does he also use that rating to assense? The FAQ says magic-linked skill tests, but adepts can buy up the assensing skill (presuming that they can astrally perceive), so would it be the whole magic attribute?

I'm not sure under what condition your magic matters when being assensed (masking?), but if you mean what magic will you 'show up' as, then it would be your entire magic.

As for when assensing, it would be whole magic as well AFAIK. It isn't a skill directly granted by the mystic half of the mystic adept like spellcasting and conjuring.

The whole MAGIG ATTRIBUTE is used in conjunction with the Assensing Skill for Assensing, yes, even for a Mystic Adept or Adept that have Access to the Astral Plane

The act of assensing in an Assensing + Intuition test.
Your magic attribute is only a factor when the various results from the assensing table (p. 191 SR4A) give the assensing person information about the assensed object in relation to the assensers magic attribute.
For instance: The assensed spirits force is lower than your magic attribute.
In theses cases mystic adepts use their whole magic attribute.

Haha, good call. That's what I get for not checking up on the skill before replying.

Thanks CeeJay for the correction... Indeed, the magic rating is a Comparison, not part of the Actual Test itself...
Sorry for the Confusion...
