Full Version: Astral tracking

1. Does the tracker have to astrally project during the extended test?

2. If not, I assume astral perception is necessary? So the tracker is physically following a line back to the target? Or is it some kind of meditative tracking?

3. The tracker must have the astral signature of the target. Once the tracker has the signature, what limit is there on when to start the tracking? Sure the difficulty goes up each hour, but if there is no limit to how many extended tests the tracker can make...guess a good example of why the -1dp per extended test should be used...

4. If there is a successful astral tracking, how long does it last?

No but it makes it easier. Perceiving means you have to deal with terrain and traffic. Plus it's harder to go underground or into the air (target in blimp for example).

Yes perception at least is needed and yes you are following a link to the target. As I said above, easier to do this astrally.

Well actually that modifier applies if the source link is no longer active. Like if you were following it from a deactivated foci or something. If you have an astral signature you can follow it when ever you want. Hiding this is why magicians get Masking Metamagic, to hide their true auras and foil this sort of thing. The signature of a spell or similar effect lasts for force hours but if you have seen a magician's actual aura then you can always recognize it if you see it again. You can't follow it without a link of some sort though.

Until the magician goes somewhere else. It just gives you his current location and unless you follow him around somehow then if he moves and you aren't following then your tracking is no longer useful. You can summon a spirit or something to follow him around for you and have it report his location after a given time or just track your spirit since it is following him.

Its really like real tracking. If the target moves and you don't follow you lose it. If the target moves faster than you and the trail vanishes (link no longer active) you lose the trail and the target. If the target goes somewhere you can't go (underground or behind a ward while you are perceiving for example) you lose the trail and the target. If the link is no longer active and you wait too long to begin tracking it becomes reeeeeaaallly hard to follow (much like waiting days to follow game through the bush while it is raining for example).

I think that's everything.
