“Hello, and welcome to a special edition of Friday Night Fights! I’m Joe Tessitore, and with me as always is Teddy Atlas. What do we have on the card tonight Teddy?”
“Dwarf fight!”
“Haha, alright Teddy, could you be a bit more specific?”
“Sorry Joe, I just get so excited. It’s my favorite fight of the year. Our first fighter, Helmut “The Iron Curtain” Hoffman, hails from Bremen, Germany, and is ‘wared up to the Nth degree. He’s listed at 200 lb, but with all that metal, he’s got to be pushing 350, easily.”
“No question Teddy. His opponent, Bruno “The Beast” Santos, hails from Sao Paulo, Brazil. A master of both magic and metal, The Beast combines adept powers with select cyber and bioware. Frankly, I was unaware they had Dwarves down in Brazil.”
“There are Dwarves the world over Joe! Let’s look at the tale of the tape.”
[ Spoiler ]

[ Spoiler ]

“Alright, that’s the first bell; let’s get this fight started!”
[ Spoiler ]

“Right out of the gate, “The Iron Curtain” unloads with a massive haymaker, but it looks like Santos was able to deflect it enough to avoid damage.”
“Still, if all Hoffman is going to do is throw Bombs, it will make it so “The Beast” is on the defensive the whole fight.”
“Unless one of them misses enough that it leaves an opening for Santos!”
[ Spoiler ]

“Neither fighter has left much of an opening in their defense; let’s see if one of them drops their guard.”
[ Spoiler ]

“It looks as though Santos is attempting to pick his shots, and tag Helmut in the head. Ironically, it’s the only part of his body that isn’t heavily armored!”
“That shot snuck through, and bloodied Hoffman’s nose! Enough of those, and he might knock him over eventually.”
“”The Iron Curtain” has been ineffective so far in hitting Santos cleanly. “The Beast” is parrying his opponent’s attacks with skill.”
[ Spoiler ]

“”The Beast” is backing Hoffman up, pushing him around the ring. This fight is starting to look one-sided; Santos is throwing at will, and “The Iron Curtain” is doing everything he can to avoid getting hit.”
[ Spoiler ]

“It looked like “The Beast” was going to press his advantage there, but “The Iron Curtain” clamed up and now has Santos on the defensive.”
“I have a feeling this is going to be a close match Joe.”
[ Spoiler ]

“”The Iron Curtain” appears to be taking over. All of “The Beast’s” shots are deflecting off of his defense, and it looks as though Santos is expending extra effort to avoid getting tagged.”
[ Spoiler ]

“It looks as though Santos is getting frustrated with his tactics; he might have to stop trying to aim so much, and just throw freely.”
“Of course, it’s entirely possible he’ll manage to break his hand on Hoffman if he hits him wrong.”
“That’s the risk you take.”
[ Spoiler ]

“”The Beast” unloads on Hoffman, and gets a clean shot to the face! Oh my! “”The Iron Curtain” takes the shot, and grins at him! It barely fazed him!”
“That was unbelievable. Santos gave him his best shot, and it doesn’t look like it hurt him!”
[ Spoiler ]

“”The Beast’s” attacks are finally penetrating the “Iron Curtain’s” defenses, and are doing damage. His nose is bleeding, and he is completely defensive at this point. A few more shots, and he should be down.”
[ Spoiler ]

“Santos has Hoffman in the corner, and he is going to work on his body. Unless “The Iron Curtain” shows some signs of offense, I think the ref is going to call this fight.”
[ Spoiler ]

“A vicious left uppercut, and “The Iron Curtain” falls! Democracy will spread through the east!”
“How long have you been waiting to make that joke, Joe?”
“The entire fight, Teddy.”
“1… 2… 3…”
[ Spoiler ]

“”The Iron Curtain” rises! The ref looks him over, and shakes his head. He’s calling the fight! Santos is the winner!”
“I got to agree with the Ref there Joe; Hoffman hadn’t thrown a punch in a long time, and much more punishment is going to kill him. It’s admirable that he wanted to keep going, but I don’t think the part of his brain that assesses risk is functioning properly right now.”
“As we look at the replay, it’s clear from the beginning that “The Beast” was in charge the entire fight. He wasn’t as fast as “The Iron Curtain”, but much much more accurate, and in the end he was able to chip away until he threw the final punch.”
“Thanks again for watching Friday Night Fights, we’ll see you all next time.”

Another good fight. This one lasted longer until the Iron Curtain started taking wound modifiers, then it was a one-sided engagement.

You know, you've got eight good sheets here...I'd say drop another Elf, two Orks and maybe one more Troll and you might have a pretty decent tournament ready to go. Just needs a bit of sheet tweaking and reorganization of tactics with the current crop. Heck, the Troll's already the favorite.

Round 7 rules issue;

You can't use the delay action to postpone your action phase. Delay action allows you to suspend some or all of the actions available during your action phase until later in the pass.

Hmm. I was curious about that as I was writing it. So what is the in-game effect? He's unable to suspend his complex action and his free action until after his opponent has attacked? He's forced to take his complex action on his turn to defend from the attack in the previous round?

In round 7 IP 1 Helmut's action phase comes up, with the complex action already spent, so no delaying can be used (just reread the delay action rule, and it can only be used for simple or complex actions). If Bruno had gone first, he could have delayed a complex action to go after Helmut so that Helmut would lose his full defense bonus before being attacked, but Bruno's action phase would still occur before Helmut's, however in this instance the attack could be resolved as either an interrupt in the beginning of Helmut's action phase before Helmut acts, an interrupt at the end of Helmut's action phase after Helmut acts, or as an action after Helmut's action phase, but before the end of the IP (delaying beyond the end of the IP will result in the loss of either the delayed action or the action from the later IP, player's choice).

So basically, Round 6.2, Bruno attacks, Helmut full dodges.
Round 7.1, Helmut is dodging round 6.2, and takes no further action. Bruno attacks, and (assuming Helmut wants to full dodge), Helmut is forced to use his action in round 7.2 to defend.
Now *had* Bruno beaten Helmut's Initiative in Round 7, what happened would have been right, correct? Helmut is still full dodging from the attack in round 6.2, and now defends the attack in round 7.1, with a -1 penalty.

That is correct.

I guess it just seems odd to me that by winning Initiative, it would appear to have hurt Helmut more than it helped.
-DrZaius

EDIT: Assuming you think full-dodging with a -1 is better than full dodging both passes of round.

Bruno gained the upper hand the previous round and had Helmut on the defensive due to a flawed tactic. By allowing Helmut to delay his action phase you give him a free pass out of the disadvantage, which should never be done.

A dwarf fight and not a single dwarf joke? Man, I had higher expectations.
Doc Chase
Everyone expected the fight to be shorter, so they didn't have jokes prepared.

Ha! Yes; I apologize for the shortage of dwarf jokes. I'm debating whether I want to proceed with a best of 4 of the winning fighters, or something completely different; i.e. Thunderdome.

Just a small oversight. It's easy for people to miss it.

Out of sight, out of mind, after all.

They were obviously short-handed, so picking on them is a bit below the belt.

I think that because trolls have such a large numerical advantage for the points involved, that trolls should always be in their own class. Mixing means that either the troll always wins, or you have to handicap the troll.
There could be some interesting handicaps one might employ though.

In Azteca they have notoriously bloody pit fights that are completely no holds barred (cyber-guns even factor in on occasion).

Winning Fighters:

Round 1:
Michael “Magik” Sullivan
Round 2:
Marcus “Gunz” Schmidt
Round 3:
“Brick”
Round 4:
Bruno “The Beast” Santos

Seeding for tournament, as determined by random dice roll:
Group A: "Magik" vs. "The Beast"
Group B: "Gunz" vs. "Brick".

I will post all 3 fights in one final thread. I will consider lowering some of Brick's stats, as he previously fought an elf who had 30 extra BP over the rest of the competition. But it'll have to wait til at least tomorrow cyber.gif
