I don't have the reference for the Background count, but you are correct, the Sangre y Acero pit would likely have a Background Count. We'll add it into the League Rules after this fight is done.

There are guidelines for setting Background counts in Street Magic, p. 121. Level 2 looks right for a pit fight arena. It is probably easier than having to ban spells.

Enhanced Senses do go away, along with Dual Natured sight, when Magic Drops to 0.

Actually, Enhanced Senses are one of the few things that don't go away, along with the claws. But you do lose Dual Nature.

QUOTE
As far as weird things I think are funny, Pixies don't have a reduced Reach, so I haven't been using it.

We can add it from now, it makes sense.

(I assumed I could fill the Essence hole from turning into a Ghoul first, before the rest of the 'ware)

That would be wrong. There is a difference between essence lost and an essence hole. An essence hole only develops when ware is removed from a person. But my money is on Gork not having to worry about things like that for too much longer, though he is doing way better than I would have expected. I'll have to put the finishing touches on my pit character so I can challenge the winner of the winner's next match.

Can cellular repair (p.88, Augmentation) regain Essence lost due to infection with HMHVV?

Yes.

This is why I considered it an Essence hole as opposed to an Essence loss.

Yeah, but that can recover any form of essence loss. Essence hole is a specific form of essence loss, or rather a discrepancy between the amount of essence lost due to ware, and the amount of essence currently taken up by ware.

True enough. I just checked over my sheet and saw that I had forgotten to cut the Essence cost of bioware in half, so I'm under 3 Essence spending.

I think my little gladiator is about to bite it. I would call for my little Gorkito to surrender, but this is Sangre y Acero.

When fights end, the winner can choose to:

  • Sacrifice the defeated to the Smoking Mirror for 5,000 nuyen.gif
  • Kill them, keep them, maim them, enslave them, eat them, or let them go for 2 Karma.

Magic has taken its toll on the Mad Hatter, but he is finally the last one standing. He hovers over his unfortunate opponent, then turns towards the fans.

"WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO WITH HIM?"
Doc Chase
The Fans fall silent as the (former) champion falls to the ground. For a moment, one could hear the drop of sweat fall from the Mad Hatter's forehead and plip on the ground.

A hoarse voice from the back of the crowd yells ĦEspejo que fuma!

The cry is echoed.

ĦEspejo que fuma!
ĦEspejo que fuma!
ĦEspejo que fuma!

It appears the crowd is out for a sacrifice to the Smoking Mirror.
Traul
And what is the smoking mirror? embarrassed.gif

Dude I have no idea, all I know it's +5k to you, but if you wanna eat the ghoul, turn into a Tooth Fairy™ and get +2 karma it's totally up to you. biggrin.gif

The Smoking Mirror.

I'm waiting on the announcer. (also, do you refresh edge between fights?)
Traul
Following the gestures of the crowd, the Mad Hatter shows a thumb down to the priests waiting around the temple that dominates the pit. Four apprentices wearing the traditional gold and black hood of the jaguar god come down the arena to take Gork's body away. Upon reaching the temple his wrists and ankle are firmly tied to the altar, then incense candles are lit to wake him up: the victim has to feel the blade for the sacrifice to be complete. The cheers of the crowd slowly vanish while the drum beat becomes louder. Gork seems to be awaking but his attempts tp break his bounds are wear. Where is the strength he used to show in the pit? Is his mind still shaken by the last fight, or has he already accepted his fate?

The high priest finally enters on a litter carried by two apprentices. As he stands up next to the altar, the reason why he did not walk there becomes obvious: he lacks his right leg, which was offered during the ceremony that brought him to his position. He makes a sign and the drums stop, plunging the arena into a heavy silence for the first time since the Mad Hatter entered the arena. The priest picks up the wide obsidian blade from the table aside the altar, lifts it high above his head so that everybody can see it, and Gork's life ends in a splash of blood.

The crowd starts roaring again as the blade thrusts into the ork's heart. The sacrifice may have appeased the god's thirst for blood, but theirs knows no relief. It is time for the next fight.
Simon Kerimov
The high priest places the ghouls still beating heart in a sacrificial bowl, where it burns brightly. The synthecardium throws a few sparks toward the ceiling as synthesized muscular tissue combusts. The priest shouts out:

"His tona, his heart, gives thanks to the gods and sends his istli, his sun fire, to the gods! Gork, the Teo-micqui, the God-Dead!"

The priest then strikes Gork's head from his body and adds it to the skull wall Gork had tried to hide behind. There is cheering and roaring as the crowd accepts the sacrifice. The priest is escorted out during the cheering, which eventually gives way to the announcer.

"Next up: the MAD HATTER vs THE GNOMISH MAGE-KILLER!"

nemafow
Hehe this is excellent, I would love to add my own character in at a future date to have a shot biggrin.gif
