Full Version: Question on Geas

Good day runners,

Quick question on Geas, do you feel that a drake taking geas on one of their abilities to decrease the cost could use the Ritual geas and the stipulation is staying 6 hours in Drake form daily?

He wants to use this because we have seen some posts about shapeshifters and drakes that never change shape; this would make it a must. Also he has Sustenance adept power so he has 21 hours a day to play around with.

Just a quarter of the day? I'd make it 12 hours just to give the geas some oomph.

edit: And those 12 hours would start on waking. nyahnyah.gif

I'd say he could take it, 6 hours a day regardless of whether or not he's awake or asleep. I'd say it's enough of a limitation even if it's while he's asleep since he would need special accommodation to sleep in Drake form and not be fatigued in the morning.

Actually, I like "Must sleep in Drake Form" as a geas just for flavor purposes. That restricts it even more, since he won't be able to conceal himself while sleeping if he still wants to cast that spell.

Isn't the intent of the Ritual to take time out of your day so that you are not available for other tasks?
Is it a disadvantage to have to be in drake form for 6 hours a day? Do they need to be continuous hours? Do you have access to the limited power during those 6 hours or only when the ritual is completed?

Maybe a little more detail, the player has made Surge 2, Formori, drake. He has taken qualities of
Positive Qualities:
Adept (5), Class 2 surge (10) with the Meta genetic positive: Meta genetic exceptional attribute {agility} (20), Martial Arts (5) Krav Maga:{Ready weapon as free action}, Dermal alteration (granite shell) (15) {3/3 Hardened armor: may not be combined with other armor}
Which is 35 points positive and 20 points meta genetic
Negative Qualities:
Lost loved one (-5), In debt {22,500 +10% monthly} (-15), Mild drug addiction (Betel) {-5} Meta genetic Negative: Impaired attribute (logic) (charisma) -10
Geasa: Must cleanse himself every 24 hours {Must spend 6 hours in drake form daily} (-10) (this is using advance rules were Geasa is linked to one power (Improved reflexes level 3) and gains this power at .25 reduction)
Which is negative at -35 and negative meta genetic -10

The Formori will be a shorter than normal troll as usual, but his granite shell warps his natural features (loss of charisma) and the surge process was painful and had Intellectual effects (loss of logic).

The Geas is a Bond between his two natures, making sure that he stays in touch with both aspects throughout his life. He has not found any refuge in normal society, always seeming to upset others, saying the wrong remark to ladies, and not thinking through actions when he is with his friends (or lack of) so he has found companion ship in his dual nature..... Balancing these too with a magic bond!

A SURGEd drake adept would be a very odd, one-of-a-kind critter. Fomori aren't exactly common, and dumping the dermal lateration will also make the character stand out. Somehting like distinctive look might be suitable. Or some other social disadvantages as he will stand out as some sort of weird oddity, likely to have peoples ill at ease around him. Who can say if he isn't possessed by some sort of toxic spirit or whatnot ?

Better take Erased, because you can't hide in a crowd and as soon as anyone has your description you will be easy to find.

Distinctive style is automatic with advanced options from Runners companion, so he will suffer those negatives but gets no BP because of it.

Perhaps with scales in metahuman form instead of skin, and the dragon hide positive metagenetic quality.

Highly unlikely. Dragons are extremely lazy creatures and will sleep almost anywhere. They're almost like cats in that regard.

Same comic also featured a sleeping dragon, although with a different joke.
Fatum
I'd allow the geas (I tend to be tolerant, generally), but the character concept is... uh... quaint.
