On the excel character sheet it does, but I can't find a reference to where it tells me that. Can anyone help me with that?
Laodicea
It's a house rule. One that I personally find reasonable.
Karoline
Wait, why would it increase availability by 3 if you have good access to it? Shouldn't it decrease it?

it increases the availability you can purchase by 3 instead of being limited avail 12
Karoline
Ah, that makes more sense.

sorry I didn't make that clear.

Huh, if you're talking about this one:
http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?showtopic=23735

You're right. It's a house rule and as such should have a toggle to turn it on or off, but it appears hard-coded into many of the pages.

The way the quality is supposed to work, aside from the 10% nuyen cost discount, is give you a +3 dice pool bonus when negotiating for the selected gear category.

Mebbe bring it up in that thread?

I don't trust that Quality in the first place. It seems too easy to abuse.

10% discount is nothing. that means out 250k you get a 25k discount if your spend everything on that cat. Not an abuse at all.

type o system is an abuse waiting to happen.
Yerameyahu
It's not the discount that's abusive. smile.gif It's the 'always works' and then combining it with the social rules. A quick Dumpshock search should give some examples.

if the GM lets it be abusive in game then it is the gm's fault. The book doesn't over ride GM it is the other way around. You get bonuses not auto success.
Yerameyahu
You could say that about every rule. smile.gif Obviously it's true, but it's not very relevant for comparing relative 'abusability'.

It says, "This contact can always buy or sell that contraband on the black market at a price that benefits the character.", and there are easy social boosts to those roles. That's what 'always works' was in reference to.

Whoa, yeah.

As the person (AKA blakkie) that first added a house rule ability to that spreadsheet I'll confirm that is EXACTLY why I added the toggle section at the same time. My reasoning was that for the tool to stay relevant it had to support RAW, even where it allows you to optionally colour outside the lines. That that generator of humble beginnings is still in use, and being supported with new material, well over 4 years after it was created I think in part speaks to the foresight in that thinking.
Yerameyahu
Hah! A gaming tool that supports RAW instead of an ever-changing, never-agreed-upon set of personal house rules? What a concept. smile.gif

On the flipside it is a tool that supports some house rules (meaning actual calculations and enforement done for it, rather than just turning into a glorified Notepad.exe). wink.gif
Yerameyahu
Right: Notepad++ is the glorified version. smile.gif

One nice effect of 'supporting' specific house rules is that all users get to see those house rules and go, 'huh… that's interesting.' That can be fun and useful. smile.gif
Dwight
Notepad++ is better than "a glorified Notepad.exe". nyahnyah.gif

BTW I've crosslinked this thread to bring it to DamienKnight's attention. I see he's still cranking out revisions, last one less than a month ago.

Settings tab, under Campaign Settings, just below Starting Availability Limit. Set the number next to Blackmarket Availability Bonus to 0 if you aren't using that houserule.

I'll note that this particular houserule function appears as early as revision D of the sheet, before there was a separate Settings tab. If you are using older versions of the sheet, you may have to either manually correct all the problem cells, or upgrade to a newer revision.
