Full Version: Freak group help

VillainsVision
Hey guys I have found my self joining a group of freaks, an Oni shotgun specialist, an infected troll who oozes acid and punches through walls, and a thirteen year old martial artist.

So I have currently made a nosferatu Mage face character it covers two roles , however one role our team is missing is a techie. And having a mystic adept and a physical adept I feel we are covered for magic so I am thinking of making a tech character. My thoughts are it needs to be something that will fit in the group of freaks. So I was thinking of making a technomancer who has sprites skills but mostly a rigger, or an ai that was a rigging program but has some of the hacking skills needed for average runs. if I could do some basic face skills ( dice pool of ten to twelve ) that would be a bonus. this is a highly optimized party and I don't want to be gimped and with my never having made a tech character I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas, trick , tips, links, sample builds that might help me out.

Thanks guys
Karoline
TM isn't all that freaky unless you're pulling something extra special with it (Like a blind child or something similar). AI is possible, but I think cyborg might be a good bet for fitting in.

Hehe, or a free spirit techie! Now that would be really out there.
Neraph
A TM that threads his Command CF up super-high and remote controls his drones. Rules in Unwired.
Raiki
Ooh! Ooh! Play a cyberzombie!

Busting the essence cap for 'ware wide open would do wonders for a techie. You could be a crazy transhumanist!

I love the Pixie-rigger sitting inside his humanoid drone. wobble.gif

SURGEd TM (or just go for a gnome TM)
Zyerne
Surge could be interesting. The only surge builds I've seen (including my own) have been class II, and so not really freaky. A full class III would certainly be a freak.
SleepIncarnate
Depends on what traits you take. You can take a class III who still looks like a normal metahuman. Or a class I who's pretty dang freaky.
Zyerne
A class 1 can be freaky, but I think you'll see a lot of extravagent eyes and unusual hair. Class III are pretty much required to look freaky.

meh, the Berserker negative surge quality (no physical signs) is worth like ten. You can make up the remaining five with Hair/Eyes.

I agree with the guy who mentioned Cyborgs.
Zyerne
You can, but thats against the spirit of the rules if not the letter.

Class III includes the most
severe modifications. Characters with this SURGE level have
usually undergone serious and often painful transformations.
The gamemaster and character should think of a certain theme (like one of the beastmen, plant-human hybrids, or Genesha-type changelings described in the fiction) and choose appropriate Metagenetic qualities from the list or make up their own as they deem fit.

Makki
we did a freak group a while ago: gnome chaos mage, drake adept, egyptian eagle shifter and rigging AI. with some karma and cash, in karma build system AIs are awesome wth piloting origin.

but I like the surge III TM too. get metagenetic improvement for one of your mental stats and shiva arms. working with 4 arms in AR must look awesome
20BP Cost:
metagenetic improvement (Willpower)
Shiva Arms
Striking Skin Pegmentation
Impaired (Strength)
Third Eye

Dryad technoshaman with surge might wit the bill pretty nicely.
Get for example Charisma 7 and you only need rating 2 at social skills to have 12 dice and as that charisma is you fading stat you hwill have a good pool for fading resistance too and plenty of BP:s left to make a desand TM.

Berserker is a bloody horrible negative quality, though. If you're not careful, you'll find yourself eating the Johnson's lungs when he refuses to go any higher on that offer (Depending on how highly strung you are.)

Holy Jesus on a harley bike... silly.gif

I have to say it:
This topic... It's not a "pink mohawk" style... It's a freaky chromed pink mohawk with green spots covered with yellow foam...
Keep going. Good work, everyone smile.gif

Oh man this is awesome I am really getting some great ideas here, I love the pixie, but don't they start with a magic rating? So they would need to be a hacker and not be a technomancer ( not that I am writing that off, it is an awesome image). I am going to need to look up cyberzombie and figure that out.

Generally accepted that pixies can't be TMs, but people have made the argument that they can by waving their hands. Basically the argument is that they take some kind of ware to lose their point of magic, thus becoming mundane and eligible for TM. This however makes a huge stretch about the magic/resonance difference and can't be done in chargen since pixies require deltaware which isn't available in chargen. And since you can't take TM post CG, and since you can't have latent TM or TM while you still have a magic rating, you can't take it during CG either. So basically it is impossible by the rules, and is sketchy at best to be allowed even outside the normal CG rules.

It basically requires a stupid GM, or a GM who wants really really powerful characters at the table, because a pixie's stats basically make it a perfect TM.

Be a human face? biggrin.gif a real weirdo among weirdos if you ask me biggrin.gif
Draco18s
A drake techie might be an interesting challenge* and sufficiently freaky. You'd probably end up in the "adept" realm of things, but you'd be a "metal adept" (Improved Skill (Software), etc. etc.)

*You're out 65 BP. Now what are you going to do?

Actually, genetic heritage does it just fine. Go go gadget geneware.

Its actaully possible to stat cyborgs up in BPgen. It requires pretty much all your cash, and most/all cash relating qualities, but you can do it.

Its actually pretty cheap to do it, too. The major cost is qualities(35 tops), cash(60), and mental stats(you don't need physical, 200 tops, but more like 120-160). You'll generally have at least 150 points left over for everything else (skills and contacts) before negative qualities.

You laugh, but the one normal human amongst a group of freaks can be a fun thing to play. Either everyone ignores you and focuses on the freaks, or are scared shitless of just what you could be, or what you are capable of. It's a win-win grinbig.gif

You can be a real decent Hacker / Rigger without any piece of 'ware. You can even get 4 IPs with trodes. And you could make up for the lack of 'ware by turning the Pixie into an adept.

And as a side effect you're immune to the Troll's HMHVV infection.

Freak groups make me sad.

I wish I could remember even the name of the group of freaks I was statting up for a one-shot; I think it was going to be "Sideshow" or something like that, and they were all going to to use circus freakshow names for each other. Like, "The Geek" was a ghoul survivor of Bug City, and the street sammy, "The Snakeman" was going to be a drake martial artist, "The Mermaid" was going their infiltration / espionage expert (SURGEd with gills, fins, and high swimming), and "The Siamese Twins" - twin girls, each technomancers, one a hacker, the other a rigger - and which witch is which, eh, eh?

Never got that one-shot off the ground, but it was going to be in Hawaii, where they'd fit in just fine.

Try a ghoul-fomori with surge III changings like "raptor-legs", "bones-spikes", "thagomizer", red skin, yellow glowing eyes and make him a mage or mystical adept from a summoning tradition that is spezialised in task spirits he summons to get tech skills and can do some hacking...freaky enough?

You mean Diablo? And I assume you mean Possession tradition so he can use the skill of his spirit... which doesn't work. They can't view AR/VR, so hacking's right out for that.

Or heck, mecha-diablo, where you're a troll (or other meta) with Cyberhorns, raptor cyberlegs, cybertail, ect, ect. Implanted guns for the "magic."

There's always Invoking. Task spirit endows you with the skill ^^
