Probably extrapolate the rules for filtration throughout an entire building excepting the point of initial contamination.

Hmm. Actually this tech kinda sucks, that's nothing at all. Just to handle the exhaust from a single biosafety cabinet takes 600-1200 cubid feet per minute or more. The exhaust from even a small cleanroom is thousands of CFM.

This is a loooooong way from utility if we're talking about filtering incoming air in any challenging way. Cool idea though.

Method

You could miniaturize it and attach it to a personal respirator or implant it in conjunction with an internal air tank to sterilize incoming air.

Personally I'll go with good old-fashioned HEPA filtration units any day. Ooh, you have to change the filter every six months...seems a lot more reliable than a rotating-cam flash-heating thingie to me. And you actually get clean air, not just air that nothing's living in.
