It's an idea. Honestly I don't know much of the info from the official books about England, so maybe not in London, but it could be interesting to set it in one of the other major sprawls in the UK/Scotland - Liverpool maybe, or Edinburgh?

What about Birmingham? Second biggest city in Englang, has some good and bad parts nowadays - Those two back girls were shot a couple years ago from there, if anyone remebers. So imagine what it will be like in 60 years!
Plus the idea of Elfs with a Brummie accent is too sweet

How about Boston? Heavy Irish population, far enough away from those troopin' elves and their bastardization of the homeland, and plenty of source material available with lots of running opportunities... and close enough to the other major areas in the setting to fit in with the other non-European characters.

depends on the days and time that we're playing...and yah, if I play, it'll be a hermetic mage...but I really need to know a little more about how playing on the boards works...
as things stand, I'll only be able to get online once a day or so, except this coming tuesday...if I know ahead of time I can probably get more time on a computer if I know ahead of time what day I need to be on alot...

I know this is a potentially dumb question, but...
Is it possible to put Active Skill points into a language? I ask because I want to be able to take Sperethiel, Japanese & English for my runner's languages...
Fraust
Mar 20 2004, 10:14 PM
I don't know about active skills, but I'm pretty sure you can put Knowledge skills in Languages...
Beast of Revolutions
Mar 21 2004, 06:52 AM
Yes, knowledge skill points can be spent of languages. If you want to have an intelligence of 2 and three languages, you're just out of luck. That may happen in some countries, but in America, only a select few learn more than two languages.

Okay, making the rigger now. Have a few questions about vehicles. Where can I find rules for parachuting and ziplining? Do you use modified max availability rules for personal weapons mounted on vehicles? The reason I ask this is that it's hard to get a good weapon to mount on vehicles, as the heaviest thing with an availability of 8 or less is an LMG. Meanwhile, the strato-9 drone comes standard with an MMG, with an availability of 3. Also, anywhere I can find rules for simple unguided aerial bombs? I'm thinking of building a custom combat blimp.
Beast of Revolutions
Mar 21 2004, 08:02 AM
Oh Frag, I just noticed you said only 15 build points of resources. Uh, that pretty much makes a rigger impossible to make.
A Clockwork Lime
Mar 21 2004, 01:26 PM
No, it makes a rigger with a lot of powerful vehicles and drones impossible. You can easily build a rigger with a VCR 1 or maybe even a (used if really strapped for cash) VCR 2 and a slightly souped-up Ford Mustang (Honda 3220) with 200,000 nuyen and still have enough for other things.
We're supposed to be major newbies here fresh off the street, not VCR 3 hardened riggers with a host of Strato-9 LMG-loaded drones and vehicles that can take on a pair of Citymasters without breaking a sweat.

Beast of Revolutions
Mar 21 2004, 10:38 PM
Okay, got my rigger done. I focused on getting a VCR 2 and a good vehicle, at the expense of drones. So, I have a nice GMC Bulldog, but no drones, although I do have a remote control deck. I hope to steal a couple drones. The character's name is Hector Martinez, and he's a human male born in 2043. His street name is Jones. He has a day job as an auto mechanic.

Im hoping that their will be a clarifacation of the time we are going to do this. I've personally never done a forum gaming session before ( and admittedly I'm a bit anxious), so I don't know the proper etiquette for this. I'll keep checking back, and I'll look for a IC thread to be opened. Does anyone know the name of the adventure yet?

It should be called Keeping up with the Jones, after Beast, the star character.

Okay - back from NYC now. Unless I've sent an unhappy PM your way, consider your characters approved.

If I have sent an unhappy PM, just fix whatever I mentioned as being wrong, and you're set. I think I've received characters from everyone. Whew...eight players. Also, type up a little description of your character's appearance to use when introducing yourself to the other PCs in the first session.
So, I think we can get started in the next day or two, if that's good for everyone. I'd like a little more discussion about what city ya'll would prefer to run in, though - so far I'm hearing Birmingham and Boston. Personally I'm a little against Boston, because I own none of the canon source material for it, and I'd rather tinker with a city that's never really been covered in any kind of depth by canon sources. I'm open to suggestions, though - if someone's got a really good SR site that details Boston, or something like that, I think Boston could work.
Otherwise, Birmingham? Any other suggestions?
Also, the nuts and bolts of the game. Here's what I've thought of so far, regarding ground rules:
1. I'll open a new thread for this game, once we're all ready to go. We'll use it for both OOC and IC talk. If you're speaking OOC (Out of Character), preface it with "OOC - " and put it in brackets - [OOC - Like this.] Use OOC for anything you're character isn't saying directly. Such as, [Jones is going to swing the Bulldog around the corner and open fire on the security car.] or similar things, like questions to me or other PCs. If your PC is talking, or you're describing what he/she is doing, you don't need brackets - that's IC (In-Character). Got it?
2. I'll let you guys roll your own dice, on either a computer-/internet-based SR dice roller or with your own favorite real-life dice. Be honest, though - that's all I ask. Got it?
3. I figure we'll shoot for one or two posts per day each. That's usually about the pace of the games around here, I think - correct me if I'm wrong. I'll try to check the thread more than once a day, but no promises - I'll hit it at least once, though. Sound good? Suggestions?

Mar 22 2004, 02:13 PM
is their- shall we say - a window of oppurtunity? Such as your posts will be done after 3pm on a given day, or is that too micro managed?
Otherwise, I'm prepared.
And thanks for allowing me to join this adventure.

I vote Boston. I planned on making Azrael Irish, so lets go full-fledged Boondock Saints and do it

If you're looking for source material on Boston, the book "Target: UCAS" has some, if you have a friend that has it that'll let you borrow it.
This could be a good start too (had to go to web.archive.org to get it):
http://web.archive.org/web/20000311001137/...ON/boston.shtmlThe Neo-Anarchists Guide to Everything Else also has some info in Issue 9 (stupid university computer can't dl it though, so I don't know exactly what's in there):

Boston it is, then - I got the Target: UCAS sourcebook in pdf format, but now it's being screwy and won't open right. I'll check out the other websites. I've got a run brewed up already.
As for when I'll be posting, I tend to post late at night - after 10 or 11 pm EST in most cases. So I suppose your window of opportunity would be all day long, in most cases.

I'm still waiting on a character from
Nightcrawler, if he's interested in playing. Otherwise, I've got everyone's stats and we're set.
Since we're doing Boston, I recommend taking a look at the
Boston site handily provided by HMHVV Hunter. Adapt your lifestyles to reflect the city (i.e., note down in which neighborhood each of your lifestyles is located), and get an idea of the background. Modify your backgrounds as appropriate if you want to be a Boston native; if you're not a Boston native, explain why your character is there. I don't need it sent to me or anything (unless you want to do so, which is cool), but keep it in mind for your character.

Mar 23 2004, 06:42 AM
Actually, the NAGEE issue with Boston is more current with the SR universe (2061; lots of the stuff from Target: UCAS with some stuff added) with what I think are neighborhood listings. I finally got to see it (after getting on a uni computer that DID have adobe acrobat installed).

I'll just say that my char. lives in the Rox, but his flat is better-equipped than most. Doesn't look any different on the oustide (except the windows and door are intact, not to mention tinted), but inside there's enough to make it liveable - bed, trid, stuff like that. He's a Boston native too.
