Still composing my greater thoughts, but one thing we need to establish, well two:

- How long has the 'company' been together? We need a name as well; and
- What would your character reveal about their past (and what would be obvious to others about them).
rathmun
Is the group missing any roles? (if so I'll put something together that fits it.)

Anyway, I'd like to toss my hat into the ring, but I'm not entirely sure what the group needs.

Oh, also, you mentioned that initiation is ok. Are you using the power points as metamagic rule for adepts?

Also, when buying initiation ranks, is it permissible to use the group initiation rules and/or assume the use of an ordeal?
Mickle5125
Doc Sci's skillset is more of a support/combatmage set.

When it comes to personal defense, he has the deflection spell, which will increase the target's chances of survival considerably. He also possesses the sound variation of flamethrower and the blast variation of fireball, as well as the increase reflexes spell, so he's not helpless in a fight.
rathmun
Ok, here we go.

well, if anyone drops, I'm standing in line.

My math didn't add up to 500 on Silas, it added up to 498, so I threw some extra nuyen.gif into getting Tacnet 3 and some common use programs for his comm. Updated my character sheet posted on the previous page.

If you like, you can take my place. (Assuming I'm one of the seven and Chrysalis doesn't mind of course) Joe appears to be a functional inferior duplicate of the other TM person, and I'm having second thoughts about playing a nutjob in a high powered game.

Why, thank you. That's quite kind of you. Since you got here first though, you do have the option of creating a different character and keeping your slot. If however, you're still willing to give up your place, then I'll certainly take it.

I had to go and read your character after reading that.

I kinda hadn't bothered to look at anybody else's character 'cos I was having so much trouble designing mine.

How the Hell did that happen?!

My background is virtually identical to yours!

I'm really sorry, I had no idea I was stepping all over your character concept. I could go with a different background, I had two I was working on, if you like.

No problem, it was pretty obvious that you'd not read my guy and were just putting down what you wanted to play. I guess there's always a temptation to play the 'bonkers' card with TMs anyway smile.gif
DWC
Admittedly, having a single cybertechnician in a specific location doesn't help much when Frank gets a bullet in his cyberhand, or Vice's MBW unit starts spitting out sparks, but I wasn't looking at having him as a single health care source, more as a trusted "personal physician" who does all the preventative maintenance.

This actually dovetails with why I suggested supplementing one major fixer contact with a bunch of small ones. Someone with a huge connection rating is occasionally going to be a problem to get in touch with. Knowing a bunch of small time people we can contact quickly for little expediting jobs would speed things along when time is a factor. It'll also allow us to compartmentalize operations. Bruno might know what country we're in, but he wouldn't know much about what we're up to if we're using local fixers for details. It protects us from someone flipping him, and protects him from going down as an accomplice if we get caught.

In describing Vice's profession, someone who paid attention in high school history class would call him a gunboat diplomat. He's a solid face with a very healthy potential for violence which he falls back on when polite conversation fails, who almost always negotiates from an obvious position of strength. When things do go to hell, he's calm and authoritative, but tactically aggressive to the point of recklessness. It's far from his specialty, but he's also decently sneaky when he needs to be.

Trouble is that you end up with way more negative qualities than you get points for.

Tetsuo is 25 points over and I didn't even give her any psychological problems. I really liked the Allergy to Renraku's Corporate logo. Very cool.

Assuming Chrysalis would allow a second hand vehicle here's an example of what we could do for air transport.

[ Spoiler ]

That doesn't include improved Sensors or Ammo but you get the picture.

It would have a range of over 5000 miles which it would cover in roughly 24 hours.

Somewhow I missed Tarbush's character completely. It must be all the wool between my ears.

Anyways if tarbush bows out then we still have seven players, not counting rathmun.

The information has now been updated into the first post for ease of access.

I also have to say the less characters the more tighter the game. Seven can be done, but I really do draw the line at seven.

Otherwise I spend a lot of time in PM with players, which means posts get delayed and then the game radically slows down, if not collapses.

---
Contacts:
You can also think about taking a company or organization as a contact. Runners Companion had rules for that if I remember right.

---
Company:
Come up with a name
I recommend that the company be relatively new say 12 months. Some of you may have been running together for a lot longer, but now you are going "legit" because at some point some corp. auditotor will be after you for taxes.

---
Money:
The reason why I gave you 500k was so that if you buy a bright shiny gadget and never use it. It's fine.
I am a humanist, so I give you large wad of cash not to scrimp but to spend. As soon as you look at buying a car or an airplane that money does get sucked low. Don't worry about the extra money in-game I can always hit you with unexpected medical bills, IRS, or alimonies.

---

I just watched the new Terminator movie today. Such fun ideas came up on how to kill you. cyber.gif
DWC
Re: Names
How about Dane-Tabot Risk Management? It's simple, non-committal, and gives most people who see it no clue what the company actually does.

And it could be worse. Snippets from the Clooney/Kidman movie, The Peacemaker keep popping into my head.

Edit:
Alimony?
crizh
What did you think of the Chopper?

Is that the sort of thing we want or is it too OTT?
Chrysalis
I would recommend a VTOL jet. It's not so much the problem of helicopters, but that they do take forever to go anywhere, like from Seattle to Tenochtitlan. If however you are planning to use this in-country then that's fine, the only problem is transportation from out-country to in-country.

Also I can mention ease of movement a low orbit commute costs roughly the same as a modern airline ticket, but cuts the hours to minutes. From Seattle to London takes only a little over an hour.
DWC

The only thing I'd pause about is the heavy autocannon. That seems like it would attract a lot of negative attention.

Edit:
Oh, and radiation suits might come in handy. Just sayin'
crizh
I'm thinking more cargo capacity over speed.

Sure you can be in Paris in a couple of hours but what about all your heavy weapons, custom Drones and Vehicles?

The Dragon can do Seattle to Mexico City in about 13 hours and Denver to Mexico City in about 7.

Or London to New York in about 19 hours.

Recent events have taught me that no amount of Drones or Vehicles are of any use to you if you can't get them where they are needed in a hurry.

Don't get me wrong, if a Sky-train is on the table I'd take it in a second but a Dragon looks like a good compromise between cost, speed and capacity.

@DWC, I did give both weapons Internal Visibility, so they aren't obvious to the casual observer.
Chrysalis
It is 8PM GMT.

I am on irc server irc.otherworlders.org on #dumpshock for the next 4 hours. Why don't you drop by and we can iron out the details there?

-Chrysalis
DWC
Nice. Big honking cargo helicopter with the guts of an autocannon buried inside. I like it. Everything seems nice and peaceful then it abruptly starts spitting muzzle flash from one end and belt links from the other.

Out of curiousity, what's the upper size limit on what Bruno can transport for us?
Chrysalis
@DWC: Bruno can transport powerplant generators for dams to the middle of the Amazon. How much space do you need?
DWC
If Bruno can airlift something the size of a Dragon, then its' overland flight speed becomes a non-issue. Rather than spending cash and slots on extending its' legs, it could be chameleon coated and tweaked to reduce its' signature.

Chrysalis
I had a chat with crizh and Mickle5125 online just now.

crizh will be looking at the group gear.

DWC, can you take care of the contacts?

Digital Heroin, can you figure out a good name for the company.

Further to the Flying Fox conversation Chrysalis have you seen this?

I've been really sick the past few days (and still am)... Digital Heroin has kept me somewhat up to date with what's going on but I haven't really been able to muster the motivation to make any contributions regarding contacts and the money... etc. I'll try to read over what's been posted and give my 2 cents later on today.
Digital Heroin
I haven't had a chance to finish looking everything over, because of work, but I'm actually quite amiable to a chopper being purchased for group transpo. We need to consider that we're not the A-Team, we're not sitting in a van somewhere waiting for action. When the company gets a contact, a forward action team (as suggested) can head in by faster, more commercial means to do the groundwork. The helicopter offers versatility once in field, if it's not exactly subtle. Ground vehicles and such can always be rented or purchased second hand in theatre.

As mentioned, TacSoft 3 for everyone doing in-field work would be a big benefit, and as far as my quick-look has revealed everyone is capable of fully contributing to the net. Dedicated comms gear would be good, probably a cite more professional since it's encrypted, but regardless everything should be able to be slaved to Frank's 'link, which he'll slave to his own persona, keeping all the 'mundance' threats from even being able to touch our comms, while he plays merry hell with theirs.

As for contacts, at least one group might work out well, but I like the loyal cybertech as well. Sure, he might not be good in-field, but when you need monthly check-ups on your eyes it's good to see the guy you know.

More shall follow when time permits...
Spooky Jack
Ok, I've caught up now...

1) Contacts: I think the idea of someone high up in intelligence is a great idea, as one of our biggest issues as a "personal protection service" would be discerning threats to our client, and acting in time to remove said threats. As for our upcoming mission, intelligence would be equally useful, allowing us to perhaps gain an edge over the competition (because at 15,000,000 Nuyen, the biggest threat to completing the mission will likely be other teams trying to claim the same prize). Knowing who else is out there trying to earn the big bounty may be absolutely key to our own survival.

2) Resources: I like the helo, though it is slow, which could be a problem if we run into airborne threats... while the gun might be useful, it won't mean squat if we're getting peppered by jets with missiles. I like the chameleon paint, and anything else that reduces our signature (ie thermal dampening), because if we do end up going with the chopper we'll have to focus on stealth over speed to see us safely in. I'm pretty neutral when it comes to ground vehicles. I have my own Morgan Thundercloud, but that would probably be left behind in favour of something more robust and spacious.

As for other expenditures, radiation suits were suggested, but I think that perhaps both rad suits (for other "guests" we may pick up along the way) and adding radiation resistance to each person's personal armour as part of the group cost wouldn't be a bad idea either. It's not that expensive, and will keep us combat capable while giving us the same resistance to radiation sickness. Any extra funds after all the big spending could go to bolstering generic supplies (ie A few rating 6 medkits, trauma patches, rating 6 maglock keypass, autopicker, etc)

3) Name for the Agency: I'll think about this one... my brain is mush.
DWC
Working on contacts. From the feedback I've seen, I'm leaning towards an intelligence operative, a cybertechnician, and a group contact like a South African mercenary company we enjoy a friendly rivalry with.
DWC
Phillip Hayes (L3/C:5)
Hayes is the CIA’s Caracas station chief. He got his start as an Air Force CCT, following a SEAL team around the world, serving as their liaison with the UCAS Air Force. After 8 years in the dirt, he left for the comfort of Ares, where he worked on orbital weapons platform research and development. After a few years, his patriotism tugged again, and Phil left Ares Aerospace to go work for the CIA. His signals expertise, coupled with his comfort amidst swirling chaos got him assigned to field work, doing surveillance in Australia, monitoring the activities of the termite mounds of the Outback. Over time, he rose through the ranks and is now station chief for the CIA’s three man operation in Caracas.

Phil met the team when both sides found themselves watching the same government official. He was looking into whether the official could be used to smuggle arms into South America to bolster the war with Aztlan. The team was looking to blackmail him into granting some matrix infrastructure contracts to a local NeoNet property rather than going with a totally independent hardware manufacturer. Both sides got their way, and Hayes has remained an excellent source of information on the world’s political climate, as well as being able to occasionally provide a bit of extremely high tech reconnaissance information on targets that happen to be enemies of the UCAS.

Svetlana Sirko (L5/C:2)
Sirko got her start as an OR nurse who worked with the cybertechnicians from Yamatetsu’s Seoul office, where she spent her time maintaining the augmentations of the company men assigned to the Korean peninsula. When the company became Evo, and relocated its’ operations to Vladivistok, keeping a sizable presence in the country was deemed to not be cost effective, and the company presence was downgraded. Sirko was promptly let go.

Over her years of experience, working next to surgeons, she’d become an extremely skilled cybertechnician (but not much of a surgeon), and when she was let go, she set out on her own as a cyberdoc in Mongolia. Rather than risk losing out on business, she went to great lengths to avoid letting anyone know she wasn’t an MD. Sirko spent the next few years of trial and error honing her surgical technique, then relocated to Vancouver to get a clean slate, and set up shop running a shadowclinic on Vancouver Island. A low level technomancer herself, she was recommended to the group because of her expertise in dealing with the augmented resonant, and her discretion.

Still looking for a good idea for others. How do these two look?
crizh
Those contacts look sweet.

Can't give me access to anybody that knows anything about orbital weapon platforms though.

*evil grin*

I've added Tetsuo to my Cast of Shadows and correct some errors I spotted and made a couple of tiny tweaks.

I'm going to get cracking on doing team gear kits for various Theatres. Chrysalis assures me that there is no point in wasting money on a giant helicopter so I'll shelve that for the time being unless everyone really wants one.
Chrysalis
If you get stranded it will be for dramatic reasons or to see how well you can think on your feet. Not that I would be so sadistic. C:)

Mickle5125
As far as contacts go, small time info brokers spread throughout the world will likely provide information as to where we can get whatever we need.
Chrysalis
Since all of your characters are in good shape I have moved up the opening first post to the 13th of June. Is that alright?

-Chrysalis
DWC
June 13th works fine for me. Looking at last minute stuff for Vice right now, but he's functionally done. I'll probably sit down over the weekend to double check my math, and may have to do a little tweaking if I find a stupid arithmetic error, but that's about it.
SincereAgape
Looking forward to simply just follow this story.
Ezeckial
Moving the first post up is fine with me.

@DWC: I like those as group contacts so far. An idea though, if we're talking about getting Rad suits and potentially other 'military' style equipment, it might be an idea to have a crooked quartermaster, or a black market dealer, or some other way of acquiring said goods.

@crizh: What theatre's are you looking at? Trying to think of what we might encounter; Urban, Radiation, Jungle, Desert, Snow. Depending on how 'paramilitary' we're getting and what type of trouble we're expecting, maybe some milspec armor and some heavy weapons? I also agree that potentially some supplies of different types of Ammo (ex-ex etc.) and some high rating medpacs and other assorted consumables might be a good idea. Just throwing out some idea's.

I was just thinking, and there's a possibility about pandora that concerns me as a player. I'm sure the thought has already crossed Chrysalis' mind, and if it hasn't..... well, I'm not going to mention it lol.
Digital Heroin
@DWC: Excellent contacts, those. While not as connected as our Fixer, I dig that Hayes has a very broad range of history, which means his contacts will come from places we might not have touched on yet. A technomancer cybertechnician's also an excellent idea, not just because she's used to handling augmented but because she'll likely have a far more intuitive approach to diagnostics... plus having a Korean gal with nimble fingers about's never a bad thing.

@Mickle: The standing group fixer should be good for the kind of intros to those people we need, hopefully. Purchasing a lot of small fixers would net us very few decently connected people, and those we do know wouldn't be so loyal.

@Ezeckial: I like the idea of a bent Quartermaster, but Frank's got an Ares Loadmaster already as a contact. Not only would he be good to slip things onto a transit into a country with rather stringent regulations, but he might be able to arange a 'loss' in transit every now and then.

Regarding the paramilitary nature of the group, few of them actually have military background, or operate in an especially military manner. Not only did it take some world-moving (a Quality and $40k) to get Frank's armor, but it's not the kind of thing someone who has operated their whole career without would just step into comfortably imo. I'm not seeing anyone versed with Heavy Weapons, really (I was going to buy a single point of it with Frank, but went Clubs instead), but a protective service (if only on paper) packing MGs and GLs might look a bit fishy.

Personal environmental loadouts I can definitely agree on. Those and comms gear should probably be priority, and we can always leave what's left over in the company's accounts.
crizh
OK, this might be a bit more expensive than I had hoped. I was hoping to be able to have two or three identical vehicles to keep any bad guys guessing at the location of the protectee but I don't think we can afford that.

I'm thinking one fast heavily armoured vehicle with a number of drones that stand-off and rain death upon the opposition.

The drones are cheap, deniable and mobile. There just isn't enough room to armour the Hotspur and provide it with a serious weapon.

Updated the first post with the new deadline.

@DWC: Excellent contacts. Five points left. I might recommend someone who originates from Europe, although the group contact like a South African mercenary company you enjoy a friendly rivalry with would also be equally acceptable.

DWC
I was torn on whether to go Europe or Africa, but Africa seemed more helpful, since I'm making the totally unfounded assumption that Bruno is easteren european. How's everyone feel about a Somali or Ivory Coast pirate lord?
Mickle5125
@DH: I wasn't talking fixers. I was talking people we can buy information from. Yeah, they'd be low loyalty at first, but loyalty can be bought with fair and profitable business transactions. we'd just have to take care to not ask for information we don't want getting out.

@Crizh: What about the option of leaving guns off the vehicles and having our characters provide covering fire?

I gave the Hotspur Gun Ports for exactly that reason.

There is always going to be stuff in a potential vehicle combat that we won't be able to fight with man portable weapons.

I'm working on an aerial drone that could provide effective air to ground fire but I want to keep the costs down. Other gear is going to be quite expensive and I don't want to skimp on protective gear, comms and SIN's.

edit

Here's the aerial 'drone', I like it but it might be too expensive.

Yah, I was throwing out idea's in a hurry, hadn't checked peoples character sheets and fully expected half of my ideas to be crap. The other half I was hoping would be decent lol. Silas has been hung out to dry, so his contacts have all dried up, and he's definitely not military. I kinda expected with 2 ex military in the group that someone would have heavy weapons.

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure what to expect, so I'm throwing things out there to see what people think are good ideas.
Spooky Jack
The issue with the hotspur is that it's not going to fit everyone inside. Even if you consider that not everyone is coming along for the ride. Would we be getting two of these? (oh yeah... Shotgun!)

The drone is a nasty piece of work and would definitely be useful as fire support/air cover (though a chameleon layer would make it much more useful imo). I'm also wondering if it's possible to make the drone both aerial and submersible? For any work we need to conduct on or underwater that could be a huge benefit.

Here's my next big suggestion, and is FAR removed from all suggestions thus far... how much would having our own solar powered spy satellite cost? Nothing like having access to the matrix anywhere in the world, along with real time footage of any area we want once we remotely shift the orbit (I'm sure this is probably the technomancer's wet dream)... it would certainly make tracking targets much easier, and I'm certain there are dozens of other applications I haven't even begun to think of.

Is that overcomplicating things? Can the drones that our technomancers currently have do everything that a spy sat could?

EDIT: I'm definitely still in for the game, and 13 June is fine as a starting date for me.

I had forgotton to take the restricted gear quality, now added, for my state of the art assault armour (weee!).
Mister Juan
I've got a bit of tweaking to do on Terrence, mostly gear wise. He should be good to go tomorrow.

Here we go. Should be final version.
