Monday, July 21st 2072. Around 20:50:00-21:30:00 Hours.
-Tonic Nightclub and Downtown Vancouver.
(What happened to Vera Part II.)The place is crowded with people. At the turn of the century, Tonics was one of the hottest night clubs in the Vancouver metro-plex. It still was till this day. Good management, visionary owners, and tactical business practices kept it where it should be. Tonics catered to the affluent and important members of Vancouver society. Students, white-collar professionals, foreigners with money....
[Tonics]Even for a Monday, the crowd was tight. Security was dressed in black shirts and came in all type of meta-variant forms. The "Cajun" and "Dirty" walk in first with their dates. Not quiet parting the crowd like the Red Sea, but making people move out of their way. Vera leans up against Lucas Charles and in return he wraps a protective arm around her. There is no live DJ, but the clubs sound system nodes have a wide range of selection of music for people to choose. Vera selects some dance music from the clubs Augmented Reality system. It begins piping in.
The pair walk past the bar. At the bar Vera notices middle aged men spending time with females who could be as old as their daughters. Their PAN networks entitled them as married men, Vera also notices a few cred-stick transactions going on between the two parties. Vera makes a silent note of the credstick transactions. Otherwise it looks like business as normal. Girls with their sugar daddies.
Glancing over at Vera, Lucas Charles speaks.
"Hey. There is VIP area of the club on the upper floors. It's quieter up there. We could either go there or hit the floor. It's up to you.""How about a drink first?" Vera says, ordering a cocktail.
"Alright!" Luke orders a drink as well as they find a small lounging booth for them to relax in. The pair sit down on cashmere style pillows.
"It's crazy tonight, for a Monday. I think I saw some people from Doc Wagon.""Everyone's looking for some fun. It's July after all." Vera says taking a sip from her drink.
Lucas:
"Wouldn't surprise me. With the announcement of Crash Cart's new facility opening up, everyone's been tentative."Vera:
"Yeah. I still haven't met the architect, Tarek Bellanger. I am supposed to help out with some of the ward designs."
Lucas:
"True Vera, but you have to remember. Vancouver isn't Seattle. We're NaN, meaning higher jurisdictions." Lucas pauses…
"Tarek? Bellanger is one of the architects?"Vera:
"Yeah. Works for Evo I think. Do you know him?"Lucas:
"That's right...Crash Cart is a subsidiary of Evo….I do know Tarek. He and I go way back."
Vera:
"Really?"Lucas:
"We roomed in college together. Our families are friends."
Vera:
"Small world then."
Lucas:
"Gets smaller every. "Vera:
"Oh it does.” She paused…
”Anything juicy you can tell me about your ex-roomie? I hear he is quite the socialite."Lucas:
"Are you going to be doing some consulting work for the new facility?"
Vera:
"Yes."
Lucas leans back in his seat and quirks a brow.
Vera:
"I am supposed to help out with medical equipment suggestions and also check that the layout is appropriate, but I am being boring."Lucas:
"No you're not. I am a nurse remember. In between all of the conversations about drugs, fights, women, etc, it's hard to find a civilized conversation in my
casual social circles."
Vera politely laughs.
Lucas:
“That makes sense. Because Tarek doesn’t know that much about the medical field.”Vera:
"Then why the step back?"Lucas:
"Had to process everything first. Wasn't sure why you wanted to know about Tarek. I wouldn't be a good friend if I just told random people about him, you know? He actually just got into the city tonight. Sent me a text not to long ago. At least he got to Victoria."
Vera:
"I like to know a little about people. Besides I am a girl and a little gossip is always nice. We can always talk about you."
Lucas:
"Haha. No. That is fine. My life is on the news and entertainment trids at least once a week. I'd rather much prefer to talk about Tarek, or yourself Vera."
Vera:
"Well, why don't we talk about Tarek"Lucas:
"Sure. He got into the city not to long ago. Tonight actually. We're planning to meet on Thursday, maybe I can introduce you to him."Vera:
"So, what's he like? Sure. That would be great."
Lucas:
"He's smart. Intuitive. Likes to know all of his surroundings, and be in control."Vera:
"What do you mean by being in control?"
Lucas:
"Doesn't enter into a situation unless he has covered all of the angels and has come up with at least two outs. He plans for everything. Obsessive Compulsive type. Has to know about every little thing. A micromanager. Last time we met for a workout, he had an entourage of people with him. Including this female bodyguard."
Vera nods,
"Must have been a big entourage."Lucas:
“Sorry. Just a lot of odd little things that I notice.”"That's okay. Was the woman cute?" Vera runs a foot along his leg.
Lucas:
"Nothing special."Vera:
"Want to come out and dance? C'mon."
Lucas:
"Sure."She takes him by the hand and playfully pulls him. They make their way to the dance floor, with Vera taking the lead. The sound of the dance music is resonating in their heads. A loud bass, as Lucas Charles increases the volume for the both of them. Vera dances with him into the middle of the press of people, dancing very close to him. In response Lucas Charles traces his hands down her body to her hips while they dance together. Vera pulls him closer, Lucas let's go of her.
Vera lightly presses her body against his.
Feeling comfortable, Lucas moves his body with hers, before placing his hands on her hips. As they continue his hands slide down her thighs.
Vera turns around and dances against him.
Lucas presses his body against hers from behind.
Vera lets him run her fingers over her body.
Lucas Charles places a hand over hers, and runs their hands up her body…..eventually cupping underneath her breast.
Vera turns around and whispers in his ear,
"Want to go the VIP lounge?"
Lucas looks down at her, despite everything going on around him externally, and all of the inner turmoil in his mind, he only focuses on Vera
Lucas:
"Yes."Vera holds him against her as she moves to the more private VIP lounge. Their bodies are lightly pressing against each others just before this song concludes. When it does the crowd erupts. Vera turns around and grins and gives Lucas a kiss. They make their way through the crowd, to a service elevator towards the north western rear of the club. Lucas nods at the ork who reads his PAN, once he does, the ork lets the two of them into the elevator. Vera lets Lucas lead her into the elevator. When the doors close, Lucas Charles caresses her face and smiles at her. Giving her light kisses, all the while brushing his thumb underneath her eye.
Vera gives him a deeper kiss. The door chimes open, embarrassed Vera composes herself.
Ahead of the two lies a purple hallway, Lucas smiles at the elf security guard who lets them through after being slotted some nuyen from the fighter. She moves down the hallway. Another life and another persona would be looking for the meeting rooms.
The hallway leads to an intersection and splits off into a square intersection surrounded by private rooms. The square hallway outlets into a very luxurious lounge overlooking the skyline. This area is called the Skyroom. Vera leads him to the Skyroom lounge. Lucas Charles's commlink tells him that a room is available, just after making the left into the square shaped hallway. The lounge has a bar with an elf bartender. In fact, Vera notices the entire staff on this top floor is full of elves. Vera holds his hand a bit more than necessary.
"What's wrong?" he asks.
Vera:
"Is there any reason why everyone is an elf?"
Lucas:
"Not that I know of."
They walk up to the bartender, an elf with short red-hair studies the pair as they walk in.
Vera:
"Two shots of vodka please."
There are two other elven staff members. A waitress with long black raven hair, a dimple on her left cheek, and dressed in a tuxedo. The other employee rounds the corner, coming from the balcony outside. He is a wide-eyed elf with beady green eyes. He is balding, with hair growing around the side of his head. He has a flat nose, small lips, and has a really bad comb-over. He is wearing what Vera can tell is an blue polo-shirt.
It is the same elf from West, who was running interference for the Portly Elf that took the picture.
The red-haired bartender elf places down the two drinks of Vodka. Other then the three of them there are only two other patrons. A human male and a dwarf female, enjoying a romantic evening.
Vera:
"I don't know about you, but I was thinking on getting horribly drunk tonight."
Lucas:
"I usually don't. Is it fun?"
Vera:
"It is."Lucas:
"Will I remember anything we do afterwords?"
Vera:
"Usually."Lucas:
"Why the heck not then." Takes his glass. And dings her glass.
"To getting drunk." Vera takes her glass and clinks it against his. She takes it down in one shot and keeps an eye on the elf that ran interference.
The wide eyed elf takes notice.
Vera:
"Could I have a bottle of champagne please?"The bar tender looks at the elf who ran interference. And then says with hesitancy,
"Yeah..Sure."Vera:
"I hear the rooms here are nice,” she says looking at Lucas.
Lucas:
"They are." He shakes off the shot.
"Would you like to see one?"
Vera:
"Sure."Lucas Charles smiles, tips the tender and grabs the bottle of champagne, he leads the way to the vacant room. It is halfway between the lounge and the elevator.
Vera walks over with him. Eyeing the elf from the West. The balding elf doesn't follow right away. When they leave his vision, he begins to use the other side of the square hallway to approach them. Vera gives Lucas a kiss.
Vera and Lucas enter the room. It is small room with padded walling. There is a small bed there, and that is it. The wall is a red color, but can change any color upon selection of the guests. Vera closes the door behind them. There is also a mural, or a augmented reality setting which allows the wall to change into any setting of the user's desire. Lucas changes the setting to an isolated beach, where the water is crashing against the walls. The ground turns yellow the sky either a blue or dark black. Vera comes closer to Lucas and gives him a kiss on the lips, and then she whispers into his ear.
Vera:
"The elf at the bar. I saw him hanging around the parking lot at the gym.”"Is he stalking you?" Lucas asks with concern.
Vera:
"I think he might be stalking you."Lucas:
"What makes you say that?"Lucas Charles presses his ear against the door. Vera can hear the footsteps from the elf's boots from outside. She is guessing he is about 3 meters away.
Vera:
"Let's just get out of here."Lucas Charles nods at Vera.
It was then, at the that precise moment the loud bang of a Ruger Super Warhawk echoes through the hallway. The door barrier bursts into shards and a bullet flies into the room, blowing a large hole in the doorway.
Vera looks on as if everything is going on in slow motion and that is when all hell breaks loose.
