Full Version: Scandinavia in the sixth world
Dumpshock Forums > Discussion > Shadowrun

Hello.

I've started writing up Denmark as a runner haven in 2072. I haven't gotten very far, but I'd like to hear if anyone have ever run games set in either Denmark, Norway, Germany or Sweden, and what sort of facts about these countries came up?

If you know about any 2-3-4th ed sources about these countries you can share, I'd be very thankful as well smile.gif

Shadows of Europe would be a good place to start. It's 3e, but provides a nice place to start from.
I haven't picked up 6th World Almanac yet, so don't know how much how help that can be.
Kyrel
With regards to the 6th World Almanac, if there's any info on Scandinavia, it's hidden within one of the chapters on other areas, because it doesn't have anything on it's own.

I do recall coming across something about the company "Maersk" somewhere in SR. That's a real Danish company, and one of the truely major Danish companies.

Generally speaking, however, I'd love to see some more info on Scandinavia, as this area doesn't really seem to get mentioned very much at all in SR. (At least not that I've come across so far...).
hermit
Shadows of Europe. You want it. Also, there is a WEALTH of stuff on Germany in Shadowrun, usually German-only stuff. If you speak the language, the Pegasus edition books might be worth a look.
Larsine
Look here for references to older sourcebooks: http://wiki.dumpshock.com/index.php/Europe, and then click on the contries in question.

They specifically mention:
Shadows of Europa
Target:Smuggler’s Havens
Germany Sourcebook
Corporate Download
Harlequin
London Sourcebook
SR3

But some of these only refer to a company that is present , or the countries relations to some other country.

Tzeentch
-- SWA doesn't add anything at all. Your best bet is to seek out Shadows of Europe and perhaps Target: Wastelands for how the Trans Polar Aleut fit into things.
hermit
If you have access to German books and can understand German, look for:
- Deutschland in den Schatten II
- Brennpunkt: ADL
- München Noir
- SOX
- Berlin

The Pegasus SR4 books also all have a German special article detailing Germany-specific stuff, but most of these aren't worth it.
Jizmack
The closest 4th edition setting is Hamburg, briefly described in Runner Havens.
Also, look-up stuff on the Black Tide: http://wiki.dumpshock.com/index.php/Black_Tide
Mardrax
Germany isn't Scandinavia though.
For those of us Euros wanting to run closer to home but outside of Germany, pickings are slim.
I'm running United Netherlands-based stuff a lot myself. Have to wing most of it. That's a large part of the charm as well though, IMHO.
hermit
I know, but OP specifically asked for Germany.

There was a rather well done UNL netbook around back in the day, that it seems most of the UNL in SoE is based on.

You wouldn't happen to know where to find it?
Mardrax
Oh sorry, I missed that completely.

If anyone would know where to find this netbook, I'd owe them a lot of thanks indeed.
hermit
I might have it on my home computer, and I sure have a printout somewhere with the old location; will look into that this evening. It might have been taken down after Shadows of Europe for copyright reasons, though. Also, have the scand union netbook(warning, pdf download). It's what the writeup in SoE is based on, but not entirely canonic.

Actually I believe the original poster asked about Denmark and Scandinavia...

I replied to that.
Ascalaphus
Well, since I happen to live in the future UNL, I'd be very happy if you could find that one too smile.gif
hermit
I'll try to. I at least have a German translation sitting on some backup. Unsure if I did trat from a printout or from an html document though.
Mardrax
No problem there, having. To handle German tends to be a not insumountable problem for us Dutchies. Whatever your efforts dig up is appreciated indeed.
hermit
Yeah, worked the other way round too (that, and using a dictionary for some words). I'll see if I can find it.
Ascalaphus
Practicing my German more would be good for me anyway smile.gif
hermit
The original VNL sourcebook, German translation. Sorry, couldn't find the original so far.
Ascalaphus
Hmm, that's not opening so well in OpenOffice..
hermit
It's MS word for the PowerPC. I'll try and save as a more current word version.

Edit: try the link again, does that work better?
Ascalaphus
That looks right to me, thanks smile.gif
hermit
You're welcome. smile.gif

The closest 4th edition setting is Hamburg, briefly described in Runner Havens.

The German version of Runner Havens, Schattenstädte, has an expanded Hamburg chapter, same size as the Seattle and Hong Kong entries.

Also, as Hermit already mentioned, Munich, Berlin and the toxic/radioactive SOX area are described as SR4 settings - but in German-only books*.

A new (and again German-only) book detailing the Rhine-Ruhr-Megaplex (home of Lofwyr and Saeder-Krupp) is scheduled for release in 2011, at the Essen fair in october, I guess.

Thanks a million for all your help!

I don't consider Germany part of Scandinavia, however (and I know I asked, but I am mostly into running a game in Denmark or the other 'real' scandi countries) - and info on both Berlin and Hamburg and the AGS in general is pretty easy to find.

Today I came across this as well: http://denver.wikidot.com/info:denmark

Not sure where the info comes from, but it's all pretty interesting.
hermit
No idea where it's from either, maybe original stuff.

De nada. Glad to help.
Mardrax
@hermit: thanks a million. Now to get my head wrapped around German again.
