Full Version: Leader/generalist build

So we're starting a new game soonish. I set out to build a pornomancer type build, but wavered way off course like I tend to.
Concept: we're playing a sortof crossover low-freak/high-end ganger campaign, with some heavy houseruling. This character would be an ex-Horizon (Charisma Associates) PR guy, running the shadows of Europort for the past few years, with some heavy background running for him, which I haven't actually typed up yet.

Let's see if I can sum this up short and dirty.
We've been given 400 BP to play with, and 100 karma to top that off, to be spent like karma, but also allowed to use that to buy contacts and gear with that as if they were BP. Biggest houserules would be always rounding Essence up, 2xCha worth of free contacts and Martial Arts not counting towards the quality limit. I'm not giving the complete BP/karma breakdown due to this being rather data heavy, but here's the rundown.
Most pertinent question would be: do you think I missed anything? But really, any thoughts are welcome.

Unless otherwise noted, brackets indicate specialisations.

I'm thinking the 1 Edge will bite me, but don't really see anything I could take it from without offering up too much of something else.

At the very least I'd change the focus of the martial arts and unarmed stuff from offense to defense/utility. With a dicepool of 6 (not counting reach/charging etc.) your dryad is unlikely to score more than a couple successes even on an ambush and with modern body army strength 2 means that you hit like an irritable kitten with anything but the shock gloves. Plus, I'm not so sure every GM would be fine with letting you shock people on kick attacks unless you've got shock boots or something.

As well, it seems like you have more than a Single Points worth of Essence Loss due to Warez. But no corresponding loss to your magic... or did I miss that?

Indeed. I'm at around 4.43 (0.99 from the legs, .19 from the eye, .35 from the bio). Like I said though, we've a houseruling saying Essence is always rounded up. We had a GM once who was incredibly unable to read rules properly(no, it didn't work out too well), so that's how he said it was handled. We haven't bothered to change it since. Kinda like how it works out in general.

About Unarmed, since I'll mostly be using the kicking thing, with legs at str 9 and agi 10, I'll generally have a dicepool of 15 and reach 1. I'm looking to not get involved in open combat (too much), preferring social-stealth takeouts. Thought it was an interesting concept, with some of the assassin-type things being mentioned recently. Of course, the generally being a softy with Rea 4 (6 days of the week nyahnyah.gif) and no Dodge will hurt. Gymnastics 1 isn't helping much either. Any suggestions?

Oh, I missed the cyberlegs. I can't say I really recommend them. In all honesty, your character is many things but not really one I'd call a generalist.

Why's that? As in "there's far more useful ways of blowing through a full point of essence"? Definite point there.

Hrm, I kinda liked the touch of down on his luck gangerism. Plus for a grand total of 24.4k nuyen.gif it's giving me an actually meaningful thing to do in combat, at least a bonus in the more meaningful uses of Athletics, ie. running for my life, and possibly climbing, and 6 armor. But it's definitely not optimised indeed.

And true enough. Generalist isn't the right term. Like this he's got the facing down (though lacking some contacts, to be acquired through play), the social infiltration thing and unarmed things down mostly, a tricked out agent to do the scriptkidding thing and general matrix stuff, decent driving as long as he has a bike, and a decent perception in most areas. He's still a big squishy though, which doesn't help if focussed on melee. I think I'm mostly lacking a point or two of Hardware skill to round him out skillwise without branching into areas covered far better by the rest of the team. (we have a utility mage, a TM cracker, and a sam/mechanic/rigger, and perhaps an archer/bounty hunter) Of course, the trove of pirated software will be shared, so anyone who wants to do the scriptkidding thing can.
