Ok so here i have in my lap (so to speak) a PC (player character not personal computer) thats programmes for a living (of sorts).

Programming skill 7 (for those who want to know).
Design Utility- Operational- 5
- Special- 5
- Defensive- 5

Programming Language- MetaComm- 6
Merit- Conected (selling software only)

First thing first
Program plan, nice and easy roll Design skill vs Tn 4 (plus/ minus mods)

The programming test, program rating 7 (i know it's not effective skillwise)
-2 for double memory
-2 for plan success (average)
-2 for the language used (buggy as it is, but it is easy to wright in)

so lets say 5 success's (fair no?) plus 3 from the programming suite rating 4 (48,000 nuyen.gif !! more expensive then maglock equipment!)

So every thing good right?

well no. Cos there are no rules relating to the reason for having a high programming language. so technically i could have a metacomm 1 skill and still do the same (seems wrong) and the computer im using to programme on (assuming 1000 MP (the suite takes up 320. (though does count as free)) cost some 20x1000 = 20,000 nuyen.gif!! (double checks SR3) and im needing it free in both storage and active!! (note a suite can only be run on computers, Matrix pg 78).

And then we go on to sell it via my 3pt merit.
Now, the price, rating 7 browse (MP 49 base, but i did optimise it, sorry did i forget to mention that?) strangly that makes this program cheaper, surly being better it would make it cost more? so for arguments sake lets take base MP so thats 49x500= 24500 nuyen.gif liking it, but when selling you get a best 50% of value (dispite the edge, without the doubling that would come with SI, yet when buying you get charged the SI! go figure).

So my questions to sum up.
1, Why do i need a programming language higher then 1
2, Surely design size is what counts in realtion to final price of things? Ah got it pg 83 options and cost thanks Lindt
3, Though the end result is good, not overly happy at the cost of the computer, or the effect of the merit (think of it outside selling programs)

Thoughts.
Lindt
You need a programming language? Uh oh... *scrambles for book* Oh, right optional bit. Ok.
Selling size is for design, not actuall, though I dont know where its cannon. Oh right there on pg 83.
Try writing a programming suite. Those sell like hot cakes.

Also what the best deck i can get for info searching? under say 20k?
Lindt
Cyberdeck? I think 20k will get you almost nothing or an Allgance Sigma. Or a really damm nice turtle box. So umm... jack.

not wanting something to hack with, just something to claim/ get rid of the following. (deck construtcion not very good at)

Claim:
Browse rating 6 -1Tn
Initiative 4d6+ (reality filter, Pure DNI, plus a response?) -1Tn
and get rid of the cold asist +1tn. all im looking for, no evasion, or masking to speak of. (to help keep costs down)

Forget where I saw it, but I'm pretty sure you need an MPCP equal to, or higher then the rating of the programs run on it.

Found it, page 206, under Deck Ratings.

EDIT: that page 206 of the core book.

Just did some deck building, if i've done it right (which im not sure about) i can't do what im wanting with less then 126K.

So Sony Abacus gets a purchase. (computer skill 5 and i using an Abacus, 20 green beads, 19 red ones (one red one missing))

about that programing question that started the thread, the way i would deploy the language skill would be that when programing you use the lowest of computer(programming) or the programming language skill. ie: i know how that works when useing it but shit if i know how to program it in that language smile.gif
