Full Version: Las Vegas 2070

Is there any information on Las Vegas circa 2070? It's shown on the map in Almanach, there's some information in Vice, but I couldn't find anything solid on the city.
Is it still the same old Vegas?
hermit
Info on Vegas is mostly to be found in NAN vol. 2. If I don't misremember, it's still Vegas but is run by Indians and Mormons jointly, now.
Smirnov
Thanks! If the info's still valid, that's good.
But what about Hoziron? Have they moved into Vegas or are they kept out of it by Mormons and the others?
hermit
Since NAN is from 2E, there's little and less info on Horizon there. I would think they moved in, though. Ah wait, yes, they did, there was something in the 10 Jackpointers ssection on TurboBunny, I think.
Smirnov
I'll look into Jackpointers, thanks.
Because if Horizon is barred in Vegas, it opens up quite a bit of interresting storylines
hermit
Yeah, it does. Also, try and look up NAN. Maybe there's also a passing mention of Vegas in Shadows of North America, but I don't remember if there is.
Ascalaphus
I dunno.. Horizon and the Pueblo are pretty tight with each other. So they might actually be the Big New Guy over there.
Aku
Mormons, running Vegas? ugh, so much for "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" OTOH, they may not care that Elvis has married you 4 times in 3 days...

It would leave a whole bunch of angry mormons. And I don't want to see them angry smile.gif
On a serious note - making Horizon owner of Vegas would leave a great number of people out of business, including some mafia types (there are a whole bunch of them in Vegas as described in Vice) and possibly would bring more trouble than profit to PCC.
And in Jackpointers it is said that in 2068 Horizon was aiming to buy one casino there - not mentioning it was successful - so it clearly means that at least as of 2068, Horizon wasn't the big man there. Things could have change in following years, though.
Ascalaphus
I thought the Mormons only got Salt Lake City?

And yeah, of course there'd be opposition to Horizon moving in (when does anyone ever move in anywhere without opposition?), but Vegas just makes too much sense for them as a target.

And their activities in the Tir show that Horizon isn't afraid to operate in creep states..

That's exactly what I'm aiming at. Vegas is like kings jewel to Horizon. If they are 'just there cuz they're there', it devoids the game of some fun. On the other side, if Horizon wants to get into Vegas so bad it hurts, that's where runners come in. It could be Fallout: New Vegas in Shadowrun smile.gif

So, I guess as there is little to none solid info on Horizon presence in Vegas, I can assume that they are still struggling to get there smile.gif

I think it sounds better calling it "Shadowrun Fallout:New Vegas" biggrin.gif

There also is a bit on Vegas in SOTA 2064 (the Gambling section). That's about the most complete and up to date write-up there is, it seems.
Wordman
The Locations PDF of the Collected NAGEE contains my write-up of Vegas from years and years ago. It is... not the greatest.

My more recent work on Vegas is more fun.

The Mormons are considered a "Tribe" with all the rights and responsibilities involved. No idea how they were able to do that, however...
Daddy's Little Ninja
If I remember rightly it is a pink skin "reservation" in the middle of the NAN land. the tourist business was so profitable that no one wanted to screw that up no matter how 'proud Native American" they were. So it is run by NAN but keeps all the pinkskins there and is a wild place. Probably lots of fun to run.

RL I'm Asian, not white. What would I be on a 'pink skin' reservation since I was born here and not in Japan?

Actually, you'd be in a pinkskin reservation for not being Native American nor Hispanic (but it's a one-drop rule thing with the NAN, so if any of your ancestors had native blood you'd be a citizen). Or you could convert to Mormonism, of course.

The Mormons believe Jesus Christ came to North America after Palestine in 34 AD. The Native American red skin is a punishment from God for turning their back on his teaching. One day, they will redeem themselves, embrace the Christian faith again, their skin will turn white again, and then Jesus will return.

So it's a sort of prerequisite before the Christ can return that there are still Native Americans around to redeem themselves (some fundamentalist Christians hold similar belief regarding the existence of Israel). A number of Mormons thus considered killing all the natives wasn't the right thing to do (plus, Daniel "Howling Coyote" Coleman was a neighbor), and covertly supported the SAIM early. They were traitors to the United States just like the Natives, and got welcomed in the NAN. Also possible someone in the Ute nation also had some grasps on Utah economics.

There's a little bit of information on Las Vegas in Underworld Sourcebook (page 37?) if you want some background on the families that were running it around 2nd Edition.

According to SSG, the Commance mob controls many casinos in Vegas, so ... consider it done. wink.gif

I wonder if the Pinkskins in the NAN have their own reservation casinos, or whether those reservations are more like a mix of Mad Max and The Hills Have Eyes.

OK, that makes a lot of sense and explains things. Thank you!

A lot of Mafiosoes with "Some Indian Blood, as proved by these documents. Be careful, the ink is still wet" probably are around.

I wrote up the following in another thread about 2058 Vegas for my current campaign. It sticks loosely to canon (which mobs are present, etc.) but extrapolates much.

If I were to have something in Vegas, I'd probably be forced to have a Mr. Johnson that only talks to the group through the Matrix, and it turns out he's in a Life Support Pod, and has been since before The First Matrix Crash...

That, and a guy in a checkered suit.
