So what was the talk all about: Shadowrun will never go to D20??
Check this out
LinkIs there anyone here that thinks this will be good for Shadowrun?
I personally feel a little betrayed. I was happy to have a purely non-D20 product. Wasn't Spycraft enough of a Shadowrun copy?

Yes, because that looks like an official website, what with the lack of any company name or legal disclaimers, and the comedy "censoring" of pictures from SR1 that arent rude.
Also note the date.

Holy Hell! (Can I say that on this Forum?)
I am so glad that it was a joke. I have to give Kudos to FanPro for that one because I nearly jumped off the roof of my apartment.
Thank Goodness.

This was the best April's Fool joke I've seen in a very long time...
BTW when I started reading the description of Man-Machine Interface I just knew I had to get that book! Finally we'll have the canon answer to that age old question:
Can I have sex with my Ally Spirit?
snowRaven
Apr 1 2004, 12:25 PM
Off course you can Crisp!
Just use a rubber dildo as your homunculus focus... hmmm, now that I think of it, this opens up a whole new area of possibilities. Wonder if they take submissions for Man-Machine Interface...

Well, if it had been serious, then Man-Machine Interface would've answered one burning question of these boards: "Can you have sex with spirits?"

It's one of the best April fool's jokes I've ever seen, especially because it's not just random silliness, it's nicely targeted. And it works quite well even if you aren't a member of Dumpshock - a couple of my group members have promised to

I think it would have been a bit more convincing if the cover didn't have a grey border and wasn't using the cover art from another book.

But otherwise, yes, I agree... not a bad joke at all.
Just kinda hope Fanpro starts using more edgy interior art like that. I wanna see more atmosphere and style in the art, not just oddball character types. Ordinary humans is becoming a rare thing to see these days.

I'm referring to some of the "sample" interior art on the page. Namely the Prime Runners Hangout and Magical Girls.
Hell, I'd even be happy to see more fake advertising in the books on the level that they were in the older ones. The movie poster for Karl Kombatmage and a rather bleh one for NERPS are about the only ones I can think of at the moment in 3rd Edition.

By "edgy" you mean more gratiutis sex?
Sorry, I can do without that. How about just a better quality of art and maybe more work on the design. Maybe have the art actualy match the game, with weapons and equipment from the game.

No, by "edgy" I mean showing the seedier side of life on the streets. As opposed to a bunch of gunbunnies running around striking cool poses for the camera. Dark atmosphere vs. cheesy characters. The two aforementioned art demonstrate that far better than most of the art in the books do.
And if just seeing a couple of women in art is your idea of "gratiutis sex," I just don't know what to say to that.

The Prime Runners Hangout pic I do like. The second pic not so much, and it might pass for gratuitous sex, but that's really a context thing. Since it seems to be about some sort of 2060s striptease show, if it were near a place in the book describing such events I wouldn't mind it. Still, the "pose" of the girl in front is a bit unneccessary.

Yes, a very nice prank indeed. Showed this to some of my old gaming buddies, they should be coming out of cardio-arrest any minute now. Heh, great April Fools. As for the "elf porn" and "gratuitous sex" pics I don't think they're necessary. It would be nice to have more atmosphere art though.

I assumed that they were Chaos Magicians or Wiccans or some variation thereof performing a ritual, myself. Sexual rapture is a pretty common theme in many "real" magic rituals, so I don't see why that would change once those magical rituals actually began working.
It's also a lot more tame, at least to me, than some of Prescott's breast- and package-glorifying work.

I'd just like to point out the best part of this thread: the subtitle of the OP. (Specifically, the last two words.)
Austere Emancipator
Apr 2 2004, 01:01 AM
I figured it wasn't a ritual because there are towering loudspeakers and spotlights in the background and a huge crowd watching/cheering/trying to grab them. Plus the clothes look like what men might fantasize women to wear in some "occult rituals", not like what people would actually wear in them, even if sexual rapture was the theme -- clothing that may look, but doesn't feel, sexy.
But you are certainly right in that there's a lot of, uhm, needlessly erotic-natured art in Shadowrun books already. Which is pretty understandable, considering that maybe 50-75% of all well-known fantasy and sci-fi art is simply about the beauty of females. And maybe 95% of the less well-known.
I've got a feeling (not sure, I don't pay much attention to SR art really) that, while Prescott's works often seem to underline breasts, the poses are not as provoking as in the Magical Girls picture. The girl in the front really looks like something you usually see in bad softcore porn.

hmm, magical enhanced striptease that happens to summon some astral entity anyone?
we are all adults in here anyways right? its a game about people that injure and kill for a living so why is sex bad? hell i have seen musicvideos on mtv that are more direct then that pic

(just look at the latest raps or maybe a spears video)
i will never understand americans, rampant gun use is ok, sex is bad, hello? if it was not for sex we would not be sitting here today, if guns where not under control most places in the world we would not be sitting here today, do the math...
sure there is sex and there is sex, some stuff people do is just to nuts to justify but when all people involved agree then what is the problem? stuff like the image is tame compared to some of the stuff you can find on the net when you are not even looking. and that is real people doing real things, not some black and white drawing!
