Value: 1 to 3

For each level of this edge that is purchased, the character gains an additional .5 to his language skill multiplier. For example, an INT 6 character with 3 points in this edge will end up with 18 points to spend on language skills

Primarily, this edge adds a little flavor. Any comments?

I think it would work better to reduce the cost multiplier of learning a language, as I can't think of any other edge like this. Or rather, treat it like Collage Education, only for languages. Neat idea, though.

I like the comparison to College Education -

Your edge could grant a reduced penalty for defaulting for language skills, and be priced similiarly as Colleg Ed. and Tech School Ed.

Combined with some serious skills in related languages, you'd be able to 'get by' in nearly everything.

Thats a cool idea, I like it

There is on definate place you could use that. I just started looking at languages for NAN for my Underworld Face. To be able to deal with smuggling from any NAN you languages need to be through the roof, depending on GM interpretation.

Given that the Ghost Dance was all about tossing back (lets drop nicities this morning) the "whitey invaders", having the original native languages be very important in these regions makes sense. I then did a bit of internet sleuthing on the area of Salish-Shidhe. There are at least two major -groups- of languages, first the Wakashan group (actually divided itself into northern/southern subgroups) covers the coast of British Columbia from above the Salish-Shidhe (likely covering all of Tsimshian), down onto Vancouver Island, and on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. The second are the Salish languages from the western portion of Salish-Shidhe.

Just imagine the Athabascan Council which extends from the heart of Cree up to the arctic circle.

Incidentally, for an idea of how a NAN central government -might- work, take a peek at how the government of one of of Canada's northern terrorries is structured:

Some kind of language skill edge would be great, because there are some countries in which everyone knows several languages, although the average intelligence is still 3. I lived in Barcelona for a while, and almost everyone in my school spoke Spanish, English, and a local dialect called Catalan. In Istanbul, I met several people who spoke 5 languages, and didn't consider that especcially abnormal. Switzerland doesn't even have a real national language. Most people in the world either live near the borders to several other countries, or live in a country where lots of people don't speak the national language, or both.
