Full Version: D&D Monster Conversions
Dumpshock Forums > Discussion > Shadowrun
Stormdrake
Have been playing with the idea of converting some of the more iconic critters in the D&D Monster Manual to Shadowrun. Some of them obviously already have counterparts in Shadowrun such as orcs, trolls, giants etc.. However I as a storyteller would get a real kick out of the parties response to a Beholder, lol.

Has anyone else done a conversion of a speccific monster?

Am currently converting the Slaad and will post it soon.

Cool idea man.

I'm inspired to bring in a cult of illithid/mind flayers!

F$#% you ghouls!

The next step in the infected. A further virus turns ghouls into Mind Flyers.

At least there is already a case for Owlbears. However ineffective it may actually be...

Slaad

The Slaad species was originally mistaken as an infected variant of Orc when first identified in 2071. Do to the apparent mental instability and heightened aggressiveness of the variant, Slaadi were grouped with other infected and bounties were offered by many municipalities. Later research in 2073 correctly identified the Slaad as an awakened variation of multiple tropical lizards and not an infected metahuman. The fact that Slaadi are an awakened variant of at least five distinct lizard species has caused significant argument amongst the scientific community.

The Slaad’s demonstrated ability to make rudimentary tools and weapons has caused some to question if the species should be classified as a protected burgeoning sentient species by the United Nations. Evidence of worship and awakened abilities to cast spells and summon spirits has others demanding that the species be classified as a full blown sentient species and granted all rights and protections under the United Nations charter.

The fact that the Slaad use metahumanity as reproductive material and that their tradition of magic is possibly “Toxic” and their worship seems to be for an “Aberrant” spirit type has made any serious conversation about granting Slaad sentient status a non-starter. The hostility of the Slaad for all metahumanity has so far confounded all attempts at extended observation and evaluation of their “language” by field researchers. The Slaad’s ability to cause technology to malfunction has rendered observation by drones and sensors unreliable in the extreme.

The slaadi have been found to have a complex social system bound up in the relationship and reproductive cycles of the various subtypes. Some subtypes dominate others, such domination occurs not through a regimented hierarchy, but by the application of brute physical or magical force.
Red and blue slaadi reproduce by infecting living hosts. The red do so by implanting eggs beneath their victim's skin which grow into a baby blue slaad that eats the host from within. The blue infect the host with a cancer-like disease that slowly transforms them into a red slaad. Despite being the means of producing the other slaad type, reds and blues despise one another.

If either a red or blue slaad infects an awakened species, the host will spawn a green slaad, superior to its parent in that it has the Magician Quality. A green slaad once it has reached maturity and secured dominance over sufficient numbers of blue and red Slaadi , will retreat into isolation for the duration of about a year. Upon its return it has transformed into a smaller, but more powerful grey slaad, which focus more on summoning than the green slaad.

Reported Powers
Accident (Technology)
Concealment (Self)
Enhanced Attributes (Agility, Body, Reaction)
Enhanced Senses (Hearing, Low-Light Vision)
Infection
Natural Weapon (Claws)
Noxious Breath
Regeneration
Sapience
Magician Quality (Green and Grey Slaadi only)

Reported Weaknesses
Environmental Requirement (Humidity, Severe)

Natural Habitat
Rain Forests, swamps or wet lands throughout Central and South America as well as Asia.

>>>>>(An interesting bit of data has come up in the last couple days. The little observation that has been successful suggests that the Slaadi’s worship is reminiscent of some practices followed by the Church of Dagon. Strangely enough, the groups arguing for granting Slaad sentient status seem to be getting their funding from the church.)<<<<<

I do have stats for them but as my players read Dumpshock I wanted to wait to post them until after the Slaad had taken a bite out of them.

I like it. Given that your players reportedly come here, I might have held some things back (assuming you aren't) about the critter powers, too.
