Full Version: AI Quality - Transformer

The Jopp
The following quality is in addition to the normal cost for an AI
Racial AI Quality: Transformer
PTS: 20
The transformer quality gives an AI the following perks and restrictions.
-Can transform between Vehicle and Walker mode (Simple Action)
-Gains Mechanical Arms in Walker Mode
-Gains Walker mode when transforming to walker (duh)
-Locks the AI in that body
-Piloting Origin (10 Points) (Body)

Transformers must buy a vehicle as their body and use it as such. They can augment their bodies with Vehicle upgrades as usual and can also upgrade their mechanical arms with cyberlimb upgrades.

Due to their size (depending on vehicle size) cyberlimb implants and handheld equipment (guns etc) have a variable cost.
Add a percentage equal to the body rating to the cost of each hand-held weapon or implant of the transformer.

Weapon mounts are either mounted on the vehicle or as vambraces on the arms. They can also be shoulder mounted.
Shoulder mounted or vambrace mounted only function in walker mode.
Vehicle mounted only function in vehicle mode.

The main problem is that the body must ab able to transform on it's own - sure the resonance or other matrix weirdness can achieve some seriously odd results, but forcing a vehicle to alter it's shape in ways it wasn't designed to isn't one of them.

Well, we can easily skip the quality, save 20 points and simply add Walker Mode and an additional "Transformer" vehicle modification.

The quality is supposed to reflect the transformation technology origin, not add an extra level of hassle for a player to play a transformer.

Another solution is to add mechanical arms and walker mode to each vehicle and handwaive the transformation technology.

If this is supposed to reperesent alien technology as in teh films, no problem, though that would be utterly non-canon. Though you rpobably want to add 'dark secret' - and 'ennemies' and 'wanted' once known - disadvantage to the package. Because that sort of tech is something the corporations will definitively kill for to grab.

Very good points. But we dont really have to go all the way with alien tech. We could just call it "Secret AI Tech".

Dark Secret - AI Transformation Technology
Enemies - Those other "evil" or "good" transforming AI's (see, the player can choose a side =P )
Wanted - Megacorps (yes, a goldmine of technological knowledge is nice to own...)

So, I'm confused.

If all you want is to say that this particular AI's origin is some secret 'transformer' vehicle project (which would only need 2 normal Pilots anyway), you can just *say* it. That's pure fluff, no one cares. smile.gif

If you want a computer program of any kind to alter the physical properties of complex machines, that's just insane, at any BP price.

If you're making a Transformers game using SR4 mechanics, then that's literally a whole nother story.

Basically the last point. The 20BP would represent mainly the mechanical transformation technology inherent in whatever the player deems to be the transformers "body".

Otherwise you would have to find some kind of handwaivium explanation with the vehicle mod rules to allow transformation of a vehicle between walker and vehicle mode.

Okay, got it. smile.gif
