io9.com is running a story about the first big step toward a contact lens with image link. Though the article is titled "Engineers have created an LED display you can wear like a contact lens," it's currently a) a single pixel, and b) a hard contact lens that can only be work for brief periods.

I saw that, but hey, it's the first prototype of the first generation of such a thing. Give some 5-10 years and image link will be a reality.

They have a LOOONG way to go. Fresnel lens are good for some things, but have way too much in the way of aberrations for quality optics. 5-10 years of great funding might see enough basic science, but that would still leave another 10 years to bring a product to market; minimum.

But I want them now! I guess I'll settle with goggles with AR.

This. Skip the contacts, that's neat and all, but I'll settle for useable goggles/sunglasses with good image link and such.
