My first post here after lurking for a bit, figured it'd be an interesting thread biggrin.gif

Considering the amount of time you spend as the character, as opposed to yourself, having psychological subtleties doesn't always stand out as much as full-on dysfunctions or gimmicks, so I tend to get some in. On top of that, there being a lack of PnP gamers among my IRL friends, all my games tend to be on IRC or on a MU*.

My favorite, though shortest lived character was an SR3 Giant that was dubbed Mechajesus. Robes, flowing hair and beard, he believed he was possessed by the lord's spirit and was on Earth to bring justice to heathens. He was fun, especially when he busted out his custom assault cannon, the stock of which was shaped like a cross and had "CRUCIFUCKTION" engraved into the side.

I've got a slick face/sammy type character that's been around way too long on the MUD I play him on, and thus MUDflated to shit, but he's also my first Shadowrun character and in general Shadowrun experience ever, so he's evolved a lot along with my knowledge of the game over the years, but he's grown into a reall cool, collected, almost classily sociopathic attitude. He doesn't much care about you, but it's not that he doesn't want to care, it's just that it isn't really good for business, or his health and freedom, if he does.

And of course my borderline psychotic adept that used to be a bareknuckle boxer from Ireland/Tir na nOg. He's fun. Impales people on his crowbar (critical glitch on a soak roll for that isn't fun), once knocked a gay man's teeth out with a backhand and dropped him like a sack of bricks for coming on to him after a teammate hacked his commlink and advertised to the bar they were in that he was gay. He's very family oriented, and would go to the ends of the world for his friends, but he's also very violent, and a bad drunk with a moderate addiction to alcohol.

Sound's like Dolph Lungren's character from Johnny Mnemonic. biggrin.gif

For me, I like to get inside a character's head. In fact, when I'm writing I usually try to stat up the characters using whatever system fits best. Never actually played SR yet, but I've designed a number of different characters since I got the books.

There's Bad News Johnny, an troll ex-ganger turned private eye. Main schtick is he's got high edge and the Bad Luck quality. Rides a harley and carries a shotgun. His approch to detective work is more "Marv" than "Sam Spade".

Then there's Ash, a pyromaniac mystic adept swordsman who runs a small demolitions company as a cover. Basically people hire him to "demolish" stuff that isn't theirs--or to create a really good distraction. Not big on stealth, but makes up for it with enough mass destruction to garauntee success. Motto is: "If you want it done quietly, call someone else. If you want it done, call me."

Rad, my namesake.

Real name: Jake Muller. Born in germany, wageslave parents tranfered to Seattle when he was an infant. Missed out on the german anarcho-synthrash scene as a result, and has never forgiven the corp or his parents for it. Worked for Ares Macrotechnology (his parents' corp) as a transporter in high-risk areas until an accident involving nuclear materials left him minus a job and plus a radiation allergy.

Knows the routes, knows the proceedures, and knows a guy on the inside. Rad now works as a hijacker/smuggler who specializes in hacking the dogbrain of corporate supply vehicles and making them hijack themselves. Or at least open the doors/shut down the weapons for him. Can pilot anything that moves, and has a tricked out dronecycle with onboard machine gun and grenade launcher. Prefers to use a Fichetti Pain Inducer for support fire when on foot.

Initial sketch of his corporate ID badge photo >here<, planning on colorizing and adding a corporate censorship ARO over the middle finger, possibly outsourced to Horizon. (ie: "This image censored by Horizon", with a big corporate spamlogo.)

Bad Josh, a Voodoo tradition talismonger.

Johnny Blades, a knife-specialist street sam with Yakuza connections, uncontrolled metastis, and cyberpsychosis from all the 'ware they've crammed in him to replace the cancerous bits. Beleives death is constantly chasing him, and runs to pay for his treatments and stay one step ahead of the reaper. Probably going to end up a cyberzombie. Modled off a character from a novel I'm working on.

Phantom, ghost-like technomancer/covert-ops/face character. Doesn't like people. Her mind was trapped in a node somewhere during the crash, and was written off as dead, only to wake up when it came back online. Squats in abandon houses she rigs to seem haunted, rarely uses the same Johnson/team twice, and likes to run around playing Miracle Shooter wearing an activated chameleon suit--just to freak people out and improve her marksmanship.

Johnny Dark, Aztlanner/Black Magician mystic adept with Raven mentor spirit. A shady nightclub performer and all around devil's advocate. Tries to get nice people to do bad things for their own good. His booking agent is also a fixer who introduced him to the shadows, has been making pretty good money as a face ever since. Loosely based on Michael Jackson from the Smooth Criminal music video--'cept he wears black, and is hispanic.

Yeah, I know--but if that vid doesn't scream Shadowrun what does? The guy dances like a friggin' physad. I also have a build based on the Billy Jean video, an illusion-using performer named Michael Jones.

Razor Eddie, the Punk God of the Straight Razor. If you don't get the reference, you suck. Gutter-punk turned rockstar turned underground indy-performer and shadowrunner when he went from being a safe, skinny-looking mockery of the punk genre to a burly human-looking orc physad and his record label dumped him. Fast as hell (4 IPs), wields a pearl handled straight-razor weapon focus. Thinking of re-statting him as a mage or mystic adept with a possesion tradition so I can get that "slicing through realities" thing going on via a spirit's astral rift power, but that'd be a strictly Prime Runner build.

That's all for now, but I got lots more. I haven't even started on my stealth-troll-cat mentor magician Shiba, or Immortal (formula spirit pact) elf swordsman from Tir Na nOg (and my persona at the upcoming renfaire) Bran Morgant, Hard Wired, Arc, the electric themed hacker/mage, god, there's tons of them. I need to start playing so I can get a few killed and thin out the herd. rotfl.gif

And then there's the awakened anarcho-darwinist armageddon cult leader, modeled after myself--but with more powers and social skills. (I don't like people well enough to start a cult.)
