Full Version: Better written adventures

Just curious which published adventures (from any edition) are the ones people like and why. I'm looking at buying some, and am curious what other people's opinions are (and why). I don't need plot outlines, just need to know how good/believable/fitting the story is and how good/enjoyable of a run it is. I've read some reviews of some of the adventures and it seems like they range from cheesy to awesome.
Larsine
I like Universal Broterhood/Missing Blood and Harlequin.

Missions season 2 is excellent value for money wink.gif
bannockburn
+1 on Harlequin, Paradise Lost, Super Tuesday, Universal Brotherhood, Arcology Shutdown (more of a setting book, but I really like it, although it needs some serious GM goodwill to let anyone survive), Brainscan, Shockwaves (Schockwellen, german book)

From SR4, I like Corporate Intrigue and the whole missions season 4.
Speed Wraith
Harlequin, Missing Blood (the Universal Brotherhood adventure), and Ivy and Chrome are some of my all-time favorites. The first two were critical to the development of Shadowrun but have lost some punch now that so much time has passed and those secrets have been out for a long time. The last one on that list was just fun.

I think many here will agree with me when I say that Dark Angel is about the bottom of the barrel in terms of modules/adventures, IMHO, avoid that one. Don't even let someone pay you to take it.
Warlordtheft
I liked ghost cartels. Its a campaign that is pretty open ended, and I've run bits an pieces of it.
tisoz
I didn't like Imago, or Harlequins Back.

Super Tuesday is ok, but it is time/events specific.

Divided Assets was a minor concept (perhaps interesting) that somehow got an entire book?

I gotta ask about this - really? You think it was that bad? It was one of the first things I ever purchased for Shadowrun back in the day and really got me into everything.
Prime Mover
Harlequin, Dragon Hunt and Bottled Demon really set the tone for my early games.

Yeah, it was that bad. Not to be confused with Silver Angel, a short adventure that was included with the original GM screen.

My recollection of Dark Angel was simply that half of the adventure was practically useless if the characters chose to begin their investigation in the most logical place. Like you would end up skipping right to the end, more or less. It is a similar complaint with On the Run.

It may have had interesting characters and a decent overall idea, but I really couldn't say. Our original GM didn't want to put the work into making it work right and I wouldn't touch it after reading through it once. I wish I could remember what specifically was so broken, but I probably haven't looked at it in over a decade, at the least.

OTOH, it must not have been that bad if it ended up pulling someone into the Sixth World wink.gif

You know what? Challenge accepted. I've run pieces out of it before for my group, but now I'm going to convert the whole thing over to 4e and run it straight for them. Let's see what they think.

And yep, Dark Angel and the Lone Star book are the first two books I remember drooling over when I was a youngin' getting into Shadowrun for the first time.

To be honest, at this point I think I'm going to remind myself to grab my buddy's copy next Sunday, re-read it and see what memory has gotten right and what its gotten wrong.

Was it done by the same talentless hack who wrote Safehouses?

Is it worth more than the cost? Not sure I'd want to look at it if it wasn't worth more than the cost.......
